Just opening the new thread while I have a chance! All welcome here, join in with the housework chat, the keep calm corner and general ramblings about life in lockdown!
Any of us have been here a long time so we may seem cliquey but it’s never intentional - newbies and returners are always welcome.

Hello can I please join this thread (it’s popped up on active)..I’m a single mom to 3DC aged just turned 3, almost 2 and 8 months so my house is an actual pigstyGrin. I would like to get it back on track now I’m in the house constantly

HungryHazelEyes · 28/04/2020 04:06

I'm glad you're back zoo!

Happy birthday to your little one KT sorry it's late.

Now I don't remember who said what! I'll have another look in the minute.

We were busy Saturday, lots of yard work. It looks really good now! DC helped a lot. DS mowed the grass- he now says that's "his thing". DD pulled weeds until DH got home, then she helped him fix up my four wheeler to try to get it running. DS helped me pull more weeds while they were doing that and we got it all done! There is another patch though that's started growing again in the fire pit area, so that might be tomorrow's job.

Yesterday I didn't do much at all: picked up groceries using the grocery pick up option, I love it! I also got some pool noodles and DH & I cut them up to put on the trampoline to cover the springs. The cover we had for it got tore up in the wind. Looks much better now. I took a nap too.

Today I worked 10 hours, got home and got dinner ready. DH got in a bad mood this evening since the darks hadn't been washed yet and he needed it for his work shirt tomorrow (they have a uniform) as all his shirts were dirty. They are now in the washer.

I don't think I collect anything. I do love owls though, so they are my weakness and have pictures/ paintings (SIL paints and is very good) to some ornaments. I really don't like a bunch of trinkets though so like to go with bigger pieces if anything.

lane we like to play games as a family as well, especially when ILs come over. I did have a much bigger collection but culled a lot last year. I don't miss any of them. I may have got rid of half of what we had, although nowhere near the amounts you have.

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/04/2020 05:03

averytiredmum welcome aboard

Bowerbird5 · 28/04/2020 06:26

ED I have a collection of blue bottles on a shelf in the bathroom. I don’t remember how it got there. I think it may have been some potions from
My sister.
We had a little owl collection of DS 3s

I started collecting some Buchan pottery when I was ill so have some of that( too much) in the kitchen on display on a kitchen pine wall unit. I have too many nik naps but somewhere inherited and some given. It makes it hard work for dusting.

Welcome to the thread.

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 28/04/2020 06:46

Bloody hell i thought you meant the flies then bower

foxessocks · 28/04/2020 08:03

I collect fridge magnets but that's about it! My mum used to collect frogs (not real ones!) but I think she's now moved onto to little jars and pots...she has more space than me and it suits her house.

Dd still asleep , she has been having trouble sleeping. I need to start moving though as working again from 9...

LaneBoy · 28/04/2020 08:31

🐧🐦🐤🐔 keep calm corner 🐔🐤🐦🐧

(I really wish we could flip emojis to make them properly symmetrical...)

Happy Tuesday people! Only three more days of April! Here are some random things:

  • a very random Wizard of Oz meme (it’s on Netflix BTW if anyone wants to reminisce! I loved it as a kid)
  • relatable junk drawer meme
  • a rebuttal to the junk drawer meme :o

Today’s question, as my collection one reminded me: Do you like board/card games and do you have any favourites?

Obviously my answer to the first bit is Hell Yes :o I enjoyed them a reasonable amount as a child (although didn’t get to play them much as my parents didn’t) and played a lot of classics (Cluedo, Life etc) with friends/now DH in late teens. Then a college friend introduced us to Settlers of Catan and that opened up a whole new world :o

Favourites is very tricky :o so I’ll just list a few Blush
Ticket to Ride
Sushi Go
Flashpoint
Forbidden Desert
Ingenious
Steam Park
World Monuments

I’ll stop there. BlushHmm:o

Although actually the game I’m most excited about I haven’t even played yet - it’s called Azul and it’s very very pretty :o just waiting for a chance to try it!

Morning, just having a quick break.

I'm not much of one for board games, we have quite a few (althoughj I've never heard of most of yours Lane) - ours are fairly run of the mill Monopoly, Cluedo, Game of Life, Trivial Pursuit, Pictionary. We like Pass the Bomb. In the pre DC days we used to have board game evenings with a group of friends and all crash on the floor afterwards as we all lived fairly close, but we are more scattered now and tend to meet up somewhere central and go for a meal instead. I do quite like card games, we were all keen on Cribbage growing up.

Tada!
Fed sourdough starter
Cleaned hob (forgot last night)
S&S
Work

JigoloHarMegiddo · 28/04/2020 10:51

Morning everyone! Glad you got things sorted out, happiness and welcome to averytiredmom. I don't collect anything except perhaps books, and even that's going the other way now I've realised I don't have to keep everything I've ever read for the memory of having read it.

Today is being a Very Strange Day here. DS3 woke me up at 6.15am, to tell me he'd been up since 11pm and playing computer games all night. I am very concerned about this - I think he's got the idea it's exciting and sexy from his older brothers (18 and 17), but actually the net effect has just been that he cried with with exhaustion from about 7.15am onwards and I put him back to bed at 8am. I shall have to get him up around midday and take him on a big walk this afternoon, but it's making today weirdly quiet and unfocussed.

Tadas so far:
💖 2 x LOL - one in the dryer, second one washing
🧡 windows open
💛 S&S
💚 signed DS3 off school
💙 emailed a friend who's been waiting for a reply since the day lockdown began Blush
💜 got the sausages out of the freezer for tea
🖤 finally dyed my hair! Left it on a bit long while I emailed said friend, suspect I am visible from space with the light behind me.
Ta Didn't / To Do
💥 Empty and reload DW - DS2 can do that when he comes to clear up after his late night cookery (again) 🤬
💥 Hoover, because DS3 is asleep
💥 Get brave and paint my DM a watercolour birthday card
💥 Finish off family history research for an aunt with a birthday next week

Thanks for leading May, Lisette and for treats in the naughty corner - shall I volunteer for June?

THATscurryfungeBITCH · 28/04/2020 11:06

How old is ds3 again megiddo?

JigoloHarMegiddo · 28/04/2020 11:06

9!

Fluffiest · 28/04/2020 11:24

Welcome to the thread, verytired, I'm fairly new here too and I've found it a nice supportive corner of mumsnet.

I'm having one of those days where I cant warm up. Tends to happen once a month now, about three days before that time of the month. So I'm sat under a blanket, with a hot water bottle watching Frozen with DD.

Ta das
⭐ weekly shop first thing this morning.
⭐ threw out rotting fruit and salad that we didn't eat quickly enough Blush
⭐ emptied kitchen bin
⭐ emailed local garden centre that is now offering a delivery service to see if I could order some plants

Favourite games:
Ligretto- it's a card game that plays a bit like uno, but everyone plays at the same time without taking turns. Its fast paced and really fun. You can buy expansion packs so up to 12 people can play at once.

Collections - I have a few small collections:
Sea/river glass - I pick a few pieces up whenever we are by water and put it in a jar. I find it pretty and nice reminder of our beach days
Etiquette books from different time periods - I like reading about how manners and social norms change through the years. I've got a satire one from the 1930s called The Nice Girl's Guide to Good Behaviour where all the advice is anything but nice e.g all the compliment recommendations are actually back handed insults "oh how cleverly your hat distracts from the magnitude of your nose!"

jigolo, I hope, in the nicest way, that DS3 feels miserable today and learns that all night gaming isn't worth it. Poor kid.

JigoloHarMegiddo · 28/04/2020 13:31

Fluff, I have that book too! DS3 is very floppy and miserable, despite sleeping all morning, so I think is learning a lesson!

The weather here is so dismal I have abandoned normal service to sit in the living room with a blanket over my knees, with a scented candle lit, stitching a birthday card for DM (changed my mind about format and cross stitch is just as quick).

Hope it warms up again soon!

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/04/2020 14:10

Slychomping · 28/04/2020 14:19

Afternoon all.

Cold, dull and raining here. Dogs were disgusted by the weather and turned around on our walk and headed for home ... . Been doing boring admin for dh ever since and it's going to be a late one. Did ordinary lockdown morning routine first thing too plus lol x2, blah, blah, blah.

Watched the local news at lunch time and really wish I hadn't as what they show on the screen is much more graphic than in UK. On the positive front, transmission rates are stabilising thankfully.

Then turned over to Beeb and saw coverage of UK's minute's silence. And many sad tales of people who had bravely soldiered on, doing vital jobs like hospital cleaning and driving ambulances, losing their lives. Truly heart-breaking to see. Sad

Sorry for such a grim post. Especially when we have absolutely nothing to complain about.

A very warm welcome to averytiredmom!

Megiddo that would be mega fab if you could do June 💚 but only if it's not too much with everything else you have on your plate!! 💐. Hope your ds3 feels better after a good sleep.

. Love the sound of the etiquette books!

Bower would love to nip out to that supermarket right now! Glad your dh got a good haul in!

Top marks for yard work Hazel!

Waves to everyone else!

KCC
Favourite cake/pastry is apple strudel.
I'm not a great fan of board games (sorry Lane I know thems sacrilegious words on your watch Grin) but we do play Monopoly, Scrabble and Pictionary and several card games. Dd went through an epic battleships phase in her early tweens.
I collect far too much: books, fabric, brown and white "transfer" China, antique green and brown glass, and antique silver "mesh" coin purses from around 1900 but they've doubled in price recently, so haven't bought any for a while! (Would love to have a proper dolls house with all the furniture - was it you on here who has one Bower but have a feeling I might go a bit mad on it so have reined myself in! )

Hello again to Happinessinabottle, I would like to collect thimbles too!

I could never, ever be a minimalist I'm afraid. I'm a lost cause. Smile

Slychomping · 28/04/2020 15:26

Crossed post with your amazing list Zoo! Star Star Food sounds really scrummy too!

That should have been a lower case china earlier btw!

Cross stitch sounds good Megiddo!

averytiredmom · 28/04/2020 15:30

Thanku for my welcomes! That’s very nice of you:

Just a question, on the detailed cleaning it says to de clutter. I don’t have to go full minimalist do I? Because I don’t think I ever couldGrin

I do like board games and card games. We don’t play that many as my kids are 3 and under so there aren’t many games actually aimed at them tbh. But we play snap. When I’m with adults I’ll play card games like okie and cheat. Actually you’ve inspired me to have a look at board games for younger kids so I’m going to now haha.

Today I haven’t got much cleaning done. I think my youngest is teething so he hasn’t left my boob all day!!.

Lisette1940 · 28/04/2020 15:49

averytiredmum you can interpret declutter as you wish on Flylady! You don't need to go full minimalist. Whatever suits you and your family.

averytiredmom · 28/04/2020 15:54

Thank you lisette!

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/04/2020 16:31

averytiredmum if it was minimalistic thread I'd be turfed off for sure!!Grin

averytiredmom · 28/04/2020 16:55

zoo Phew! I’m the same lol the only room that is minimal is my room and that’s because I just haven’t bothered to buy for it! And thank you for that I will have a look

foxessocks · 28/04/2020 17:01

I'm not a big fan of board games either sorry lane Grin I'll play at Xmas but even then reluctantly...I do quite like word games like articulate and Scrabble! My ds (3) is a big fan of board games though, he loves snakes and ladders, the hamster race game, dominoes, junior monopoly... anything!

Today has been pretty stressful , i hardly did any of my work because the systems were down, the online learning thing wasn't working properly for dd and she was tired and grumpy anyway and literally forgot what we'd been through two seconds after Hmm ds had a huge tantrum and was hitting out. We all cried!
But we sort of turned it around - we went for a walk in the rain, I made a cake , and decided to give to on any more work so the kids are now happily playing dinosaurs together...but I may be pouring a large G&T later 😂
