Just opening the new thread while I have a chance! All welcome here, join in with the housework chat, the keep calm corner and general ramblings about life in lockdown!
Any of us have been here a long time so we may seem cliquey but it’s never intentional - newbies and returners are always welcome.

Oh Megiddo that’s so frustrating 🤬how aware are they of the automated routines? Would they benefit from having set tasks on set days? Easy for me to suggest though, since mine are younger/fairly malleable still and we are only one week into the chore chart Hmm I’m not sure it’d work so well with older ones. What would happen if you read them the riot act about being selfish/unhelpful? Would DH back you up? Or is he just as bad Hmm

Flowers Give Flowers FFS! I have no words.

Jigolo my DD is also self-starting with the homeschool, she sits down and goes through the stuff allocated in her usual timetable order. I would find it much harder if she needed constant cajoling to get it all done. I've only recently realised that not everyone is doing all the work set! Coffee is always a good idea though, will have a quick shower myself and get a decaf one, saving the strong stuff for when I need a boost later!

Happy birthday to Cluck junior, hope they have a lovely day!

Actually did some flying at the weekend, and will continue this week . Fed up of having to move stuff around constantly for various video calls, so got one corner left to sort and then I think I've mastered the various combinations of lighting for each class!

Have got sidetracked writing this and made my decaf coffee, so should go and get my shower now. Catch you later this morning!

ChicCroissant · 27/04/2020 09:37

So many cross posts while I was faffing around

Yes, I'm scouse btw, forgot to answer that bit.

lane there may still be a market in the creative side, lots of people are like me - good at using someone else's stuff but not creative themselves Grin

LaneBoy · 27/04/2020 10:40

Sounds good :o I have thought about setting up a download page for some of the home ed resources. Like if I make the Macbeth stuff for lots of other Shakespeare plays etc. Maybe. It’s all fear though, I never take risks 😳

I can’t seem to shake the bad mood that is returning frequently over the last week or two 😣 Must stop hiding from the family now...

ta da
💙weighed self - up less than a pound, so could be worse, but wrong direction for sure!!!
❤️printed person/country of the week pages for DS
💜exercised and came up with a routine for myself based around what I know I can/can’t do. Will print it for the bedroom wall I think, and try to do it daily.

Morning all,

Lane, may I join you in your bad mood? DD is in another rotten mood today. We're in a stand off over washing her hands after using the toilet. She's in her bedroom now to hopefully calm down for a few minutes.

Small morning ta das
☀️ lol
☀️ vacuumed downstairs
☀️ lifted sausages out of freezer
☀️ re-arranged the bookshelves. I had the bookshelves in the dining room arranged by colour but it was annoying me. I've put then back in to genre groups now.

Might try and do the test of the house bleugh this afternoon when DH is more on hand to help.

Slychomping · 27/04/2020 12:37

Good morning!

Happy 3rd birthday to Little K!uck! 🎈. Hope you have a lovely day!

Lovely about the Scrabble game Lane!

Megiddo having to be a constant task-master must be really hard. Hope you can have a bit of a break today.

Chic Liverpool is a great place; sounds as though you miss it loads.

Oh that's really horrible Giveme; I was thinking the other day that journos might be on the prowl on sm with so little RL fodder about, hope you are ok and ignore nasty comments that say a lot about their authors frankly Flowers Flowers

Great to have you back Zoo please take it very steady Flowers. (Although looking at your amazing list I think that ship may have sailed! Smile) Hope you can get your iron back to a decent level soon.

I can really really sympathise with the insomnia, I am regularly wide awake at 4am, then have to make the decision as to whether I get up early and do stuff (ironing usually) and risk waking the dogs which means dh and DD waking too. Or stay awake for two hrs reading and get up at usual time. Either way I feel wretched at 5pm as can never get back to sleep!

Really sorry you are missing your family Foxes; it must be especially hard with your DC being so young.

Dh has been taking calls on the ground floor all morning. DD has been having on-line lessons on the second loor. And I have been on the floor in between between sorting BRC in boudoir/home office (loads of RBC to sort). I can only stand a morning of doing this without going spare though! Have also done one dog walk and X2 lol.

Going to make the most of the sun and spend the afternoon in the garden. Not looking forward to the change in weather that's coming this week! Going to do DH admin when it's raining!

Take care everyone! Waves to all fledglings!

KTCluck · 27/04/2020 13:27

Hi everyone. Thanks for the birthday wishes for DD. She’s had a lovely day so far and has been spoilt by family. A relative surprised us by hanging a birthday banner on the railings opposite the house. We’ve played with her new toys and managed a couple of hours in her new paddling pool. Picnic lunch complete with birthday cake and we are now relaxing watching peppa. Hoping she’ll have a nap as she’s had an exciting morning.

Fluff oh the hand washing dramas. We have them daily in our house. Nightmare.

Give so sorry that’s happened. It’s so wrong. Hope the nasty comments aren’t getting to you, people can forget that there is be a real person on the other end.

Glad to have you back Zoo. That is a fabulous ta da list on so little sleep.

❤️roused the rabble for a walk (DD1 took a LOT of persuading)
💜had a brief kick about in empty section of park before leaving them with DH, walked down to town
💙Wilko for essentials + crafty bits
💜Boots for meds, and remembered to buy DH’s vitamin D - bit concerned that now there’s more awareness about the importance of it in fighting CV, more people will try and buy it from behind the pharmacy rather than taking normal supplements!
❤️Poundland for essentials + a few DVDs for entertainment!

Just got home, time for a shower and then English with DS. We seem to have lost the English workbook in the packing up of the Kallax (see this is why I wanted to gather all the home ed stuff separately first 🤐) so we will do a Bitesize thing instead. Assuming we haven’t also lost the giant dictionary 🤔

Tada
Four loads wash done
Two dry on line, one in drier one indoor airer
Line dry stuff ironed
A dry/ironed stuff folded and put away
Help D's scrub bird feeders and refill
Sort 4 bags random crap(mostly recycling/rubbish,why do I not learn not bag and save/stash stuff?)FFS

Bathroom
Wipe windows and mirror
Clean tiling
Wipe radiator and bank panel
Clean bath and sink
Sweep up cat litter
Empty and disinfect tray, reloaded once dry
Sort tray in D's room too
Bins out

Lunch-fish fingers, roasted cauli pieces(cut small) with cumin and black pepper.cucumber chunks and chopped tomatoes in wraps.plaim hula hoops (childhood throwback)

Made a start on my room
I have found about 1/3 of bed(buried under sea fresh towels that have no proper home and loads random stuff that's been dumped)

On plus found bag with some shower gels, conditioner and shampoo and razors!!

Major flagging now, don't think will get much more done today other than continuing the laundry mountain that's accrued
It's still not straight, but it's not the cluttered hovel I waded into this morning

Bowerbird5 · 27/04/2020 17:42

Lovely to have you backZoo. Sorry you feeling so crappy. I do the bag thing to it is a quick method of tidying then you find it several weeks later and aaaaggghhhh! Need to sort BRC then wish I had put it away in first place but usually some presssing reason why I didn’t.💐

sC good advice for Giveme sorry that has happened. I saw one or two people asking others to be kind but I do read them sometimes and think wow what nasty comments and as SC says it reflects badly on themselves. I think I started off reading a bit of that thread.

Not much flying here today.
Bed made
S&S bathroom
Cleaned down kitchen worktops

Been shopping to 🤫that shop SC as a bit further to go but would be quieter. Sent DH in as only one person from household only allowed to purchase one of required thing. He did fairly well. Went to shop next door.Went to buy chicken feed and he came out with two bags of compost too. We ordered some locally but it hasn’t arrived yet.
Wiped it all down or decanted on return. Took a while. Had lunch In the garden. Sat and read for a bit in the sunshine. Neighbour started chain saw up and other side mowing lawn so came in for peace. BF rang so I didn’t get nap.

foxessocks · 27/04/2020 18:16

giveme sorry that happened to you, don't worry about the details it's completely understandable, I've done the same in the past (not anymore because this is this is the only thread I really post on tbh but I totally get the reason why people would do!)

Today has been hard work! I'm pleased my full day of working is done though. The kids have been shouting a lot today and creating so much mess. So I feel a little bit done in now!

Hope everyone ok

So good to hear from you zoo Smile

☀️🌙🌈 kcc 🌈🌙☀️

Today we’ve got:

  • an “eyes deceiving you” type meme that still makes me laugh
  • a lockdown activity idea. Also counts as home economics for lockdown education! :o
  • ladybirds :o

This evening’s Blush question: Do you collect anything?

For me it’s definitely board games. We have a ridiculous collection - at times it’s pushed 200 if you include little things like the Caglets’ top trumps sets etc. We are trying to cut down now hence making the most of the chance to declutter - we really don’t have much chance to play at the moment and I’m realising how much I regret buying some without really researching them.

We also collect DVDs really, as a family - we have an absolutely batshit amount because between us all we like a massive range of films and series. In particular I like anime so tend to get those when I can.

I’m not a trinket/ornament person at all so don’t collect things in that sense, I love seeing others’ collections though. If we had a fireplace the mantelpiece would likely just have random crap on it rather than anything pretty! Blush

Just to say that I'm getting ready to take over thread leading on 30 April - fabulous two threads Lane. I won't have your inventiveness for the KCC but will try the odd intervention there.

I'm going to have to compile a list of all those on the thread Smile

Now that is much more time consuming than a jigsaw - unravelling the mixed herbs. Next time I hear 'I'm bored' I'm reaching for the spice cupboard.....

Right - naughty corner is open - sparkling wine, fruit platter (some chocolate covered) and plenty of cushions outside...perhaps the odd hammock

LaneBoy · 27/04/2020 19:37

Ooh fab lisette thank you very much! 💜

ta da
🌈showered off the Outside World Contamination when I got in... and clean clothes (about time HmmBlush)
🌈tried a bit of dictionary work with DS - very glad DH did all the other home ed with him today
🌈found some better stuff on twinkl, printed for later in the week along with an alphabet chart which I’ll laminate as DS still struggles with alphabetical order despite having a pretty good memory for other stuff! Plus Cagletini can use it for matching games etc.
🌈got going on the paper doll project :o kept me busy for a while
🌈joined in with DD1’s sport challenges. We’ve had emails about a county schools sports contest thing, apparently it’s annual, but obviously this year it can’t happen, so instead they’re sending out challenges. Luckily we have lots of sports equipment from when DH ran the home ed PE club - this week it’s hockey drills.

Going to try and find some work about Ramadan now as the neighbour is telling DS about it (he goes to school with DD1, lives two houses down and sometimes chats to them through his window while my lot are in the garden!)

I have absolutely no idea why the Cadbury's chocolate bar wound up in my previous post. 😆

KTCluck · 27/04/2020 21:28

For all my plans of limited flying today, I actually ended up being quite productive this evening, as DD was engrossed with her birthday presents and wasn’t interested in what I was doing.

Managed:
✅ s & s upstairs and down
✅ LOL
✅ declutter and tidy of cupboard with wrapping paper, gift bags etc
✅ decluttered and organised 3 of 6 drawers in the dining room sideboard - mainly art & craft stuff, cards, stationary, batteries etc. It was overdue!
✅ dishes done
✅ garden tidied after a day spent mostly out there
✅ relatives banner retrieved from over the road before it blew away
✅ tidied the house and swept up cake crumbs a few times an hour Hmm
✅ tidied fridge
✅ future friend
✅ give the sink the shine of its life. It’s gleaming Grin

Of course I now realise I should have been in the naughty corner with Lisette’s treats!

KCC: after my big declutter I don’t collect anything and in fact start to get a bit itchy if there’s too many of something. Prior to it I collected shoes. I had a ridiculous number of pairs. I was totally ruthless and now have around a tenth of what I used to have. I’ve never missed them either as I’m too old and boring for ankle-breaking stilettos

We don’t own any DVDs Lane, or even a DVD player any more. CDs also bit the dust. I do like a board game though and suspect as DD gets older we will end up with lots.

happinessinayellowbottle · 27/04/2020 21:34

Thank you for all your kind words everyone. No flying done today, I’ve been sorting everything out. I’ve managed to delete my old posts as my old username was given to my ex. But am here now with my new account!.

I also completely forgot it was MondayBlush. So homeschooling will start again from tomorrow.

Do fairy lights count as something you can collect? If so I do collect them. I collected thimbles as a kid, but then lost them all when I moved house.

Bowerbird5 · 27/04/2020 21:55

That sounds brilliant Lane don’t forget about TES. Some things require a payment but lots are free. I bought a couple of discs from eBay which people had put resources on. Things likeOwl Babies. Katie Moray which I added to with resources I brought back from Scotland. We did Scotland as a topic once and the kids loved it. I took Nurture Group to Caelaverock Castle and the RSPB reserve next door once they loved it. Perhaps you could do something like that designing and planning. Providing photographs and resources. Is there anything in your local area?

Thanks Foxes for offering to lead May.

ExpletiveDelighted · 27/04/2020 22:31

Evening all,

Bit of a frustrating day today, I was struggling to concentrate on work, the DCs both had tech issues with their work. Then this evening I found someone had managed to knock over a bottle of shower gel in a rack in the bathroom, it's one of those little three tier floor standing ones next to the bath, the lid was one of those pop up / press down ones which wasn't pressed down so the shower gel had cascaded through the racks below and onto the floor. Grrr.

So, the bathroom floor is very clean. I have also swept and mopped the kitchen floor, done a load of washing, cooked dinner with DS (filo pastries filled with feta and left over stuff from yesterday's bbq hummus, pitta bread, couscous). Done yoga class this evening.

Collections - I'm a collector. I still have my childhood marble collection, I also used to collect leather bookmarks and matchboxes, no idea what happened to those though. Now I collect limited edition 50ps, I buy postcards with maps of places we've been to and I treasure and display bits and bobs the DCs make and buy for me. I also have a windowsill with blue glass bottles and vases on it, I love deep blue things.

Happiness - I keep losing track of the days too. I think that's the new normal.

Zoo - good to have you back.

Lisette - thank you for opening the naughty corner
