Hello all!

Thank you for joining us, please note if we seem cliquey it’s only because it’s a long running thread - everyone really is welcome!

Welcome to (probably) the most bizarre Flylady thread yet... in which we are attempting to impose/maintain some kind of order in our homes, while also many of us are adjusting to working from home and homeschooling the kids for the first time too! Not to mention the anxiety around health and accessing food!

Of course, normally the opening post would talk about banishing CHAOS - Can’t Have Anyone Over Syndrome - but now we aren’t allowed anyone over anyway :o so, let’s just try and make our homes nicer FOR US. We are spending more time than ever in them, so let’s make them really wonderful places to be, our own safe little nests for our families.

Flylady routines might just help us get through this crazy time, by giving us a little structure to work from when all else is unpredictable - but as usual there is no right or wrong here. All of us follow it only to the extent it helps us - we can take ideas and make them work for us. And the key principle is, YOU ARE NEVER BEHIND. I feel like that is even more evident now, with so many of these outside pressures and commitments suddenly gone, and frankly the days rolling into one!

This is potentially a great time to declutter. Of course, Flylady suggests 15 minutes a day - but perhaps in these unprecedented times we will all do more! But we are all busy getting into our own routines now that school is out, and work too for many, and we’ve lost a lot of the outside structure to our lives. There’s no right or wrong here, we just have to try and adapt.

Links wise, I’ll just post the launch pad, and will add reminders about zones too. If anyone has Flying questions, please ask!

Star The Keep Calm Corner Star
The lovely SC came up with the brilliant idea of the Keep Calm Corner last month - this is a daily post with things to make us happy! I figured each monthly host can make this their own, and I’m a little worried my taste in art and music would not be calming to most Blush:o so for this month, the KCC will consist of:
Star Some memes - either funny (we all need a laugh! Warning though - some will likely be unsavoury :o) or thought provoking/relaxation based. Do PM me (here or FB) if you have any you want to add!
Star A daily “ice breaker” type question - obviously answering these is entirely optional, and don’t say anything that will out you, but if you want to join in and create some extra conversations on the thread then treatment, we can all get to know each other better! Again, if you think of any questions please PM!

Thank you for settling in, and of course thank you to SC for making March such a lovely thread. Thanks And lastly, a huge thank you also to our key worker Fledglings, who are doing an incredible job of keeping things running! Thanks

I another one knows little about loads stuff, but not much on one subject!

Lane we having EXACTLY same trouble dd2.andbi took lil zoo phone away Friday after kept sneaking it all night saying "it's charging in my room bring down later" then not doing it as knew I'd forget...she's switch computer do I took that away nearly 48hrs device free she's taken watch tiktok over dd2 shoulder.she was due get it back tom.niw earliest chance us Thursday and I've warn her if don't follow rules I will take again and it won't be back so no facetiming friends whilst school working.
I don't have answer to helping them managing anxiety..I do know j need ring camhs tom and get anxiety group leader that's now ringing weekly to stop and try a text or email as it's turning her near nervous wreck 3days before worrying what will be asked and after she's miserable 24/48 hrs how talk went(offer no useful advice/leaves her feeling even worse)but we cannot afford drop out of the system

She's sat on tictok all morning try distract from very bad anxiety today.not helped by "d"p texting "it's going to be pretty crap we can celebrate another time" no promise of a call later.nada.TWATAngry

Three loads washing now done, and I've found a vegan chocolate cupcake recipe.she doesn't really eat cake anymore with reflux, but I thought a muffin she can nibble at which we can take photo of her blowing out a match on top(no candles)deffo is a weird birthday...

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 13/04/2020 13:08

If you have crayons and string you could attempt to make a candle zoo?

KTCluck · 13/04/2020 13:44

Ooh mastermind specialist subject would be difficult, there’s not much I know a lot about Grin. Probably Disney or Enid Blyton. Or perhaps the human body - the human biology questions tend to be the only ones I can answer on university challenge.

Ta Da:
✅ dressed
✅ beds made
✅ s & s
✅ ironing, including uniform. Some put away
✅ LOL
✅ breakfast dishes washed
✅ benches wiped
✅ tinned soup and HCB for lunch

To do:
Make soup and prep overnight oats
Pack work bag

LaneBoy · 13/04/2020 14:02

Ooh now Enid Blyton would be a possibility for me too actually - I read and reread all the mystery/adventure type series throughout childhood. I have various Blyton-based TV series on DVD now too, they’re comfort viewing :)

The others are back from their walk but I don’t feel remotely relaxed. I’m really low and grumpy the last week or so. They saw ducklings though (walked to a different green space which I wouldn’t manage because of hills) so I may be cheered up by cute photos!

Mine would be horses.

Oh Zoo I wish I had known you didn't have candles. I might not have had sixteen but i did have a few I cou;d have posted to you. I made a coffee cake with some walnuts in the icing/filling. I put 3 candles on mine turned the lights out on my way into sitting room (you turn them on off in dining room) and made DH laugh with my three candles as I am ?3

I wanted chocolate cake but had given up chocolate so saving that for our Anniversary on Wed. We need to walk off the cake.
DD has a vegan cake recipe from Mrs Cup Cake which is like Turkish delight. I am another fan. Dont mind if it is plain or chocolate on although I do think the Fry's ones are sweeter than they used to be. My dad loved them. Toblerone first then Turkish delight he was in UAE working for a while so perhaps it was why or being brought up in Myanmar.

Bowerbird5 · 13/04/2020 14:11

Have they got cupcake dresses on though lane Grin

LaneBoy · 13/04/2020 14:19

Zoo sorry the phone calls are stressing DD2 out so much. It was quite like that with DH’s counselling, even when it moved to phone sessions for the last few weeks - the anticipation and anxiety about what would be talked about started taking over beforehand as well as making him really spaced out/distant for a few days after. Asking for another communication method is a fantastic idea, I hope they agree!

With DD1 a lot of it is because her sleep is messed up. Her anxiety reduced a lot when she started melatonin - it usually crept in during the evening because she couldn’t sleep. She’s currently on a meds break (mandatory as otherwise she will need higher and higher doses) so obviously it’s worse at the moment anyway, but the lack of exercise/sunlight isn’t helping sleep either.

LaneBoy · 13/04/2020 14:25

:o Bower maybe I’ll get them to sneak some spare cases down next time!

Oh the chocolates are Lily O’Brien btw! They are totally gorgeous I agree - the key lime pie one is my fave from the dessert box 😋

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 13/04/2020 15:10

Ooh I just remembered another chocolate I liked before they got rid of them, the coffee ones in roses and quality street. Everyone used to save them for me because nobody else liked them.

Few more ta-da's
✔️ had a sort through my makeup basket and binned a lip liner. I only sorted through it because I was in there for the tweezers to get a chin hair 🙈🤣
✔️scrubbed the bathroom floor (I may have already said this I didn't do it twice)
✔️ sorted through the medicine basket and chucked some ood piriton
✔️ took small DC and our curtains down to wash
✔️ windows in bathroom, bedrooms and stairs and landing
✔️ straightened the bookcase in dc bedroom
✔️ sorted through DS3 wardrobe and chucked a few t-shirts because he has far too many and I'm struggling to find room for them all
✔️ tidy DC rooms
✔️ hoover older dc room
✔️ today our room
✔️ cleaned bath toys
✔️ scrubbed toilet
✔️ polish younger DC room
✔️ dust our room
✔️ flip out mattress

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/04/2020 15:13

lane dreading D's having his first break.he settles by about 1030-11 now on meds and that's a HUGE leap.i personally think dd2 could benefit, but I no idea whom to ask?her sleep patterns are awful, struggles to settle etc..
Bower coffee cake😋😋😋😋😋😋😋😋
We3 I have neither candles or string sadly.but if I did I've no idea how to turn into a candle so probably for the best!!

Muffins in oven,dd2 in shower before pampering commences.im crossing everything these work as I've not try it before and I've no more flour(curiously she requested cake with no banana in and I usually do a basic one with it and add extras)it's got frighteningly low levels of flour for my liking to cocoa powder(70g flour to 30gcocoa)it's apparently in time you cook them depends if you get muffins or brownie type mixture.please let them be ok?!(I couldn't find another recipe to which I had all the ingredients to hand.curse my disorganisation)

Starting feel a bit sleepy-unsurprising as I've only had 31/2 hrs sleep and been ip since 430....

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/04/2020 15:14

we3 coffee creme is far superior to ghastly orange onesin my rampant chocolate demolishing phase I saved the orange ones for someone j knew liked them.i only touch myself if absolutely desperate for a chocolate fix and was nothing else available!!

Fluffiest · 13/04/2020 15:38

I have my fingers crossed for your DD's birthday cupcake, zoo.

We3kings that is an impressive ta-da list! Well done!

Ta-da
🦄 LOL
🦄 Sermon writing/practicing- it's my turn to preach for our live streaming service. Bit nervous about it, but I'm hoping if I keep it short and simple I will be ok.
🦄 Family walk - bit cold out so we made it a short loop
🦄 Cleaned the bathroom- mirrors, windows, bath , shower, sink, toilet, floor.

Tonight I'm going to be working on DH's birthday surprise. He turns 40 next week and is a very social creature so it's going to be weird for him not to have his friends with us. So I have messaged his closest friends and family from his past and present and asked them to film themselves wishing him a happy birthday and send it to me. MIL has asked some people too. I'm going to put all the videos together into a big happy birthday montage for him. At least that way he gets to see his favourite faces.

LaneBoy · 13/04/2020 16:00

Ducklings! 😍

I really need to get myself moving. Also realised I forgot to take my afternoon meds so that probably hasn’t helped (it’s too late now - I won’t sleep if I take them at this point)

We did play a game with DS though. It was sort of on the shelf of shame (we’d never played our own copy, but I’d bought it because I have played it a few times before with other people). So that’s something.
I’m going to sit in the garden for a bit now

So true give I should definitely get some learning in during this time! I was quite nerdy at school, was at a grammar which was very pushy. Hope you feel better soon.

Feel a bit more human after sitting in the sun for a while.

I've had a really lazy day today but managed to get up and do a bit of tidying up and dusting and stuff which did make me feel a bit better.

I've been re-learning french on Duolingo app which is really fun, I did a level french and have actually remembered a bit when I put my mind to it and try!

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/04/2020 18:27

Dd1 saw a decent camera on sale available at Argos/sainsbo at we went halves on it.another £100+ but her little face was worth every penny.it was her original gift of choice but all I saw were £400+ for good one,way out of budget!she's buzzing with excitement now❤️❤️❤️❤️

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/04/2020 18:29

She's had a great pm as international fan girl group chats have been INCREDIBLY kind, sending her edits and a few have Snapchat screenshots they've made into edits of her with music and effects, which has been lovely for her to feel so special❤️

A gift is icing on the proverbial cake!!

MrsLindor · 13/04/2020 20:00

I followed fly lady a few years ago and really found it worked, but I got out of the habit, I'm doing a lockdown declutter at the moment and want to put some routines back in place to keep on top of things. I'm reading the book again and if it's ok I'll catch up on the thread and join you.
