Are we gross?

After trying to work out how our neighbours manage to run their dryer for 9-12 hours a day, 7 days a week (2 adults, 1 toddler), I had a poke around some old posts and I'm astounded to find out how often some people are using their washing machines/dryers.

It looks like it's common to be doing 2 to 3 washes a day which boggles my brain.

We (2 adults, no kids) do 1-3 washes a week.

How often do you guys wash certain items?

For us its:

Bedding - weekly / 10 days ish
Towels - weekly
Jeans - maybe 4 times a year
Shirts, tops, tshirts - every wear
Undies - obvs every wear
Hoodies, jumpers etc - whenever they smell or look dirty or out of shape

Do any of you wash everything after just one wear? Towels after each use?

Jeans 4 x a year!!? Wow!

Cosmos45 · 28/03/2020 14:58

Jeans 4 x a year? Yes, you are really gross! Ugh..

fluffdeloop · 28/03/2020 14:58

the rest looks not awful but Jean's..that's grim.

TurnOffTheTv · 28/03/2020 14:58

Jeans??? Really? How often are you wearing them

LuluBellaBlue · 28/03/2020 14:59

Haha I read jeans 4 times a year then realised, or hope you meant wear 😂

That all looks average to me. Because of environmental reasons I have actively tried to reduce how often I’m washing things and now with lockdown even more so as short of washing powder!

Bluntness100 · 28/03/2020 14:59

How often do you wear your jeans you only wash them every three months, do they not stink?

PotteringAlong · 28/03/2020 15:00

Because you have no kids. I have 3 and do a load every day or 2. You’re not washing your jeans 4 times a year when they’ve been snotted on, poo’d on, covered in mud from kids who have got knackered on a muddy walk.

SherlocksDeerstalker · 28/03/2020 15:01

So a towel wash, sheet wash and clothes wash - that’s three washes minimum. If you do all that stuff weekly, it’s never going to be one wash, is it?

HollyBollyBooBoo · 28/03/2020 15:02

1 wash a WEEK? There's only 2 of us and I could easily do 1 a day!

Today I've done 2 x bedding, 1 x towels, 1 x blankets and 1 x whites.

Yes you are grim for washing your jeans once every 3 months, that actually makes me gag!

PotteringAlong · 28/03/2020 15:02

Also, that’s for 2 people. Statement of the obvious, there are 5 people in my house so of course I do more than twice as much washing as you Hmm

Cohle · 28/03/2020 15:04

We (2 adults, no kids) do 1-3 washes a week.

Yeah, no shit 2 adults do less laundry than families with kids Grin

Kids are messy. Toddlers are horribly messy.

Merename · 28/03/2020 15:06

You could not believe how much washing children generate, honestly.

Windyatthebeach · 28/03/2020 15:06

At least 3 loads a day every day.
More at weekends..
5 dc and pets with blankets!!

devildeepbluesea · 28/03/2020 15:08

It's just me and DD, I have a machine with a large drum. About 1-2 loads per week is what I do. I don't separate anything, it all goes in together.

LettuceP · 28/03/2020 15:09

We are the same as you except jeans, 4 times a year is pretty gross, sorry.

2 adults and 2 kids here and we do at least 1 wash a day, sometimes 2 and occasionally 3.

dancemom · 28/03/2020 15:10

Just dd and I.

I do one dark, one colours, one whites, one towels, one bedding and one gym clothes a week.

This tends to be Friday - Sunday as I don't like wet washing hanging up all through the week.

Letseatgrandma · 28/03/2020 15:11

Jeans-maybe 4 times a year

Omg!

But really-surely you can see that a family with 3/4 kids will produce masses more washing than your house? Please tell me you understand that!?

GreyishDays · 28/03/2020 15:12

I would say we do a wash a day and there are five of us. Only one sports wash though I’d say.
Your timings look fine except your jeans. I probably wear mine about five times.

I do know some people that wash everything after one use though, cardigans, pyjamas, towels. I think they like to keep busy.

Walnutwhipster · 28/03/2020 15:13

Yes you are...

Falacy · 28/03/2020 15:13

Me and 2 DDs.

I do 1 light, 2 dark, 1 bedding, 1 towels a week.

Basically every second day.

strawberrylipgloss · 28/03/2020 15:14

4 times a year must be a typo for "wear 4 times"

ooooohbetty · 28/03/2020 15:16

We're the same as you (apart from the jeans!) but when my children were at home it was only about 3 - 4 loads a week and I didn't have a tumble dryer. I honestly think some people must get changed a few times a day and wash everything they only wear for a few hours. I don't wash towels after every use because all I do is wrap one around me when I get out of the shower, I don't actually dry myself. I don't separate anything and don't have a laundry basket. Dirty washing goes straight into the washing machine and it gets switched on when it's full.

ShyTown · 28/03/2020 15:17

If you washing your bedding and towels on average once a week and tops/underwear after each wear then I don’t get how that equates to as little as 1 wash. Do you not separate your colours? Aren’t bedding and towels 2 separate loads just on their own? Unless you have an industrial size machine, share a single towel between you or sleep in a single bed then how does it all fit? The rest of it sounds normal enough though, aside from the jeans, which is pretty grim.

Nuttyaboutnutella · 28/03/2020 15:20

The jeans thing is gross. The rest seems okay.

We are 2 adults, a toddler who loves messy play and a baby (messy eater!)

We do 1-2 a day with clothes (plus changes for the kids!), School uniform, bedding, towels etc. We also use cloth nappies and wipes 90% of the time so they get washed over couple of days.

maddiemookins16mum · 28/03/2020 15:24

Jeans - after roughly 3 wears.
Work cardigans/trousers - I wear twice
Work top/blouse - after a wear
Weekend tops - after a wear
Pyjamas - after 2 wears
Towels - 2 or 3 times a week
Bedding - weekly
We are a family of 3, we do on average a wash per person per week plus one for bedding.
