Are we gross?

After trying to work out how our neighbours manage to run their dryer for 9-12 hours a day, 7 days a week (2 adults, 1 toddler), I had a poke around some old posts and I'm astounded to find out how often some people are using their washing machines/dryers.

It looks like it's common to be doing 2 to 3 washes a day which boggles my brain.

We (2 adults, no kids) do 1-3 washes a week.

How often do you guys wash certain items?

For us its:

Bedding - weekly / 10 days ish
Towels - weekly
Jeans - maybe 4 times a year
Shirts, tops, tshirts - every wear
Undies - obvs every wear
Hoodies, jumpers etc - whenever they smell or look dirty or out of shape

Do any of you wash everything after just one wear? Towels after each use?

How old are they when they get musty? And how do you know they don't wash their clothes?

Oliversmumsarmy · 09/04/2020 13:08

I can smell it.

Not necessarily older people. I can smell that smell

I smell it on my own families clothing when it has been worn and is heading towards the laundry basket

Maybe if they have a new, energy efficient tumble dryer it just takes ages to dry the clothes?

Family of 5 we do at least 3 wash loads a day it doesn't end sometimes 4

I am wondering if i'm not washing enough!
I do it as and when. Have 3 DD aged 17, 13 and 5, The older 2 change their sheets and towels. I try and keep on top of it. My youngest is 5 and sleeps in my bed so weekly washing.
Then I just check the washing baskets for whites, darks, towels, bedding.
I must admit since I haven't been working its so much easier to keep on track of washing.

2 adults in household.

We do on average 3 washes a week.

Excessive laundry is just busy work and environmentally unfriendly.

But I accept that some people are smellier than others and need to wash their clothes more.

Agree with a PP. Most of this mad washing stuff is just busy work.

Like the people on here who have schedules to bleach their skirting boards every week or who Hoover every day. It's completely unhinged but because they have bugger all else going on it's apparently set the standard for the rest of us.

I don't shit in my jeans. My crotch doesn't contain life threatening germs. I shower daily. The jeans can live through a couple (20 or so) wears. No they don't smell.

I use to do a load every day but I’m really trying to reduce my carbon footprint so am trying 4 a week
2x colours inc bedding and towels
1xwhite inc bedding
1xhusbands work clothes

And really trying not use my tumble dryer
