February Flying for Fledglings, No More CHAOS here

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/01/2020 17:14

Welcome to February! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (n some cases, very loosely) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Every day I will post a link to the Flylady launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

More info to follow.

Gosh you really are flying Rachael and I'm so glad your husband's better

Tinselette1940 · 03/02/2020 21:11

Toostressy this might help www.theguardian.com/media/2017/oct/07/how-to-listen-to-podcasts-everything-you-need-to-know although I'm a novice myself

ExpletiveDelighted · 03/02/2020 21:20

Evening all,

Stressy - my phone (Iphone) has its own app for podcasts, but its hard to know where to start. I often just go to BBC Sounds on the laptop and find something there, there are lots of great ones. For chat I like Fortunately with Fi and Jane. For blokeish banter I like The Peter Crouch Podcast. There is a great series about addiction called Hooked. A very moving series recently about Hillsborough, also one about escaping from East Berlin in the Cold War called Tunnel 29.

Rachael - welcome back, great news about DH's meds working.

Tada!

Swish and swipe
1 LOL now in dryer
Sweep kitchen floor
Work
Dance class
Dinner

It was almost light when I left work tonight, lovely!

Reading your ta da list makes me feel tired willow

Isn't it great to see Spring Expletive? Lighter evenings are on the way. I'm quite far north so we have amazing long summer's nights

KTCluck · 03/02/2020 21:59

I’ve had two failed attempts at posting Hmm

Welcome back Rachael, great that your DH is better on the meds.

Impressive list Willow

Bower sorry your back is still troubling you.

Hope Cagletini is over the worst of it now Lane

I had more responses but they seem to have leaked out my brain so I’ll just wave at you all and offer Cake.

Toostressy it’s ok I am in the same boat. Haven’t a clue.

Rachael Good to hear from you.

That I have thought a small screen about the size of an iPad. Likewise because I spend a lot of time in the kitchen. If I could move it about I might have a cleaner boudoir.

Been a muddly day.

Wiped around kitchen.
Made coffee for builder.
Checked tiles on line.
Went to tile merchants. X3
Went to butch
Vacuum downstairs
MaKe dinner and popped in oven
Made cup of tea x
fell asleep
Woke up, went to quiz
Came second
Made cup of tea and went to bed
Woke up at silly o’clock

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 04/02/2020 07:16

Morning! Sorry you couldn't sleep Bower, that can't be helping with back pain. Offering virtual Brew and Cake to assist.

Wendy continues to be very helpful. DH just loves technology, so he has been setting her off in the kitchen when he comes to bed, and I get up to a swept floor. This is good. We did move all 🥕before we began this time, though. That, she works on rotating brushes, so I fear soggy weetabix would make her ill... Unless you let it dry first, but then it goes like concrete as I recall!

Today will be another long one as DS3 has a cold and is very miserable and DH is in London all day then away on business overnight (to Ipswich 🎉🎊🎇 Grin . I've obviously been at home too long, I even envy him that!).

Anyway, to dos:
🔳 Washed, dressed, shoes, hair and face (I keep skipping bits of this)
🔳 Walk dog
🔳 Feed dog
🔳 S&S x3
🔳 LOL and put end of yesterday's away
🔳 Get DW on
🔳 Fish for dinner (work out what I will have as DH forgot to buy a second fish pie. Looking like sardine fishcakes made with leftover sweet potato mash).
🔳 Dust rest of house
🔳 Order DD's repeat prescription
🔳 Print for client report (images have to be done a sheet at a time - likely to take over an hour)
🔳 Research homeschooling area on The School Run.com before they start charging me on Feb 12th.
🔳 Do homework with DS3 and pull him through the day
🔳 Craft stinking email to humanities teacher who appears to believe that kids that can't draw just aren't trying hard enough ☹️
🔳 Ring DM, try to arrange to see her at the weekend.

KT, enjoy your business trip. When I used to do them, I just used to be thrilled by 24 hours away from little hands, however lovingly they were grabbing me!

Big wing flaps to everyone else!

THAT90sBITCH · 04/02/2020 07:31

Wrote a post at 6am but it vanished Hmm thanks mn Angry

Brew all round

Tinselette1940 · 04/02/2020 07:32

Morning all. Sorry to hear of early wake-up Bower. Impressive to do lists already on thread for today. I am better - last meds and temp staying normal. I am tired though but happy.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 04/02/2020 08:21

Cross fingers it sticks Tinselette. 🤞 Don't overdo it today!

Tinselette1940 · 04/02/2020 09:52

I definitely won't willow. I'm just resting.

rachael12345 · 04/02/2020 09:58

Morning all . Strong coffees here, baby hot and snotty Hmm again..
It seems like he's been poorly and off ever since his one year jabs 3 weeks ago - it's such a toxic cocktail, I'm 100% on the side of immunizations are great but it seems a lot for their little systems to handle. And they mummies!

I feel like the flying is working really well atm as I've figured out how to have more of a rest at the weekend so am then better able to cope with the jobs in the week . Planning ahead really works. Feeling ridiculously over pleased about working out something so simple! ! Basically I don't cook at weekends hardly at all now except breakfast. Make sat packed lunch on friday (sometimes eaten at home, but minimal washing up) takeaway on sat night. Lunch out on Sunday, and then sofa supper of cheese toasties or similar sun night. Dd age 5 esp loves this - and it's feels special to gave a bit of cosy hygge time.

Fair bit of shouting this morning as had to get the car to garage before school. .. sounds expensive

Ta da!
Beds
All dressed
Dw - dh! 😊
S&s
Lol on
Got to garage on time
And school on time v impressed with self!

Sad not ti be seeing biddies at playgroup due to hot baby so another at hone day. Might as well make the most of it. Had a good bash at admin to do list yesterday and cookibg ahead so going to focus on practicals.

To do.
Put away lots of washing
Put up yet another baby gate
Sweep floors
May clear out bathroom cupboard - was inspired by fl mission several weeks ago- she prob nearly back to bathroom again ..
Laundry room / tiny cupboard room understais desperately needs a sort out but that feels like too big a job.

Hand held hoover is broken (it was crap anyway I'm quite glad) I'm inspired by stories of Wendy to maybe replace with roomba or similar . Dog sleeps upstairs so maybe it wouldn't bother him too much. Do ypu think it's a good idea? Defo keen to have opinions

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 04/02/2020 10:13

Rachel I waited so long for DH to put the second baby gate up that little one can now do the stairs and still no sign of gate 🙄

Quite a chilled morning in my house this morning. My hands are all dry and splitting so I skipped the bath and just had a quick wash instead and no ironing so I had loads of spare time. Didn't do anything productive with it but it was nice not to be rushing around for a change.

Ta da's
✔️LOl
✔️ S&S
✔️ dressed and face done but just tied hair up as it's blowing a hooley out there
✔️ had breakfast with the DC instead of in the car which was nice

Also managed to squeeze in 3 coffees before I got to work so that should make for a productive morning.....if i ever get off mn 😂

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 04/02/2020 10:13

Rachael, Willowhound hates things that make a consistent noise, s0 ordinary hoovers (big Shark, or cordless, or little handheld) and the food processor etc drive him up the wall. Yapping, biting it etc. Wendy, he's totally unbothered about (carrots notwithstanding). I totally recommend her. I've fought against one for years (partly on cost grounds) but she's really effective at keeping the day-to-day grot down so I can hoover properly when the dog is out.

Right, sorry, meant to be working!

Sorry to hear the babe is poorly.

Tinselette1940 · 04/02/2020 11:11

Apparently Rachael there is a hygge concept of a cold snacky dinner with cuts of meat so you're definitely on trend there! Hope wee one is better.

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/02/2020 12:00

Tinselette1940 · 04/02/2020 12:39

zoo I hope that school does work out for your ds. You have my sympathies re phoning doctor and triage. I think the receptionists now hate me. I've got a distinctive accent round these parts so they know it's me.

LaneBoy · 04/02/2020 12:59

ta da
✅phoned GP to make urgent appt
✅shower (DH hovering nearby as I was dizzy)
✅got to ACEs course thanks to lift from friend (triage phoned back while in the car so that was good as it didn’t interrupt the course)

This has absolutely zero to do with Flying but I’m sharing it anyway because I feel the need to bring some positivity :)

Felt really dizzy quite early in the session and was struggling, after a while one of the leaders asked if I was ok (she had at the beginning too but I’d done my usual thing of saying yes even though I wasn’t Hmm) and I said sorry I might just sit on the floor instead of the chair as I’m really dizzy, reassured them it’s nothing scary etc just that I couldn’t sit up properly. So I moved the chair back against the wall and sat on the floor.

And then the lovely bit: the leader sat on the floor too!!! Just said she likes sitting there as well, quite happily continued leading the course from the floor.

Small gesture but it absolutely meant the world to me in that moment (and I spoke to her at the end to tell her that). ❤️ There are lovely people in the world! :)

Tinselette1940 · 04/02/2020 13:05

Well isn't that just lovely Lane. Good to know that there are emotionally intelligent people out there.

LaneBoy · 04/02/2020 13:40

It totally is tinsel :) I struggle asking for help at the best of times but since this flare up it’s been a huge issue, so for that to happen has made me so happy.

Stilllivinginazoo · 04/02/2020 13:50

laneStarfor speaking outand bravo to lead of group for being so sensitive to your needs and it's always little gestures that make biggest difference❤️❤️

ChicCroissant · 04/02/2020 15:48

Evening all, I have been out all day so have been quiet. Got to take DD out to an activity tonight as well, so I will catch up with you properly later on.

rachael12345 · 04/02/2020 19:40

That's so nice! As a one time group facilitator myself I'll remember that for future.
