February Flying for Fledglings, No More CHAOS here

ExpletiveDelighted · 30/01/2020 17:14

Welcome to February! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (n some cases, very loosely) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Every day I will post a link to the Flylady launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

More info to follow.

Thursday

BrewBrewBrewBrewBrewBrewBrewBrew

launchpad

The mission is to wash your bathroom rugs (I'm ahead on that, did our bathmat yesterday) and wipe down the fronts of your washer and dryer, not too hard.

Thursday is errand day.

I forgot to eat dinner 😅

Haven’t been my future friend either. Cagletini still awake. Tomorrow will be a challenge

LaneBoy · 13/02/2020 01:13

Sigh. She woke up just as I was finally going to go to sleep.

Welcome back cineraria
Aaaargh willow hEDS is just the pits 😰
Amazing lists posted

Not fully caught up with everything, just need to try and sleep now as I have nothing ready for tomorrow. Generally I am getting much better at just packing my bag etc - but tonight DH took extra pain meds and checked out completely by 10pm. I’m wired but exhausted. Hopefully tomorrow will be manageable!

petal2019 · 13/02/2020 04:53

Hi! I would love to join this group if I may. I have just started using the fly lady method and had been finding myself beginning to get a bit more sorted out. However, yesterday, I started to focus on my work and all of a sudden it all looks chaotic again!!! Feel a bit overwhelmed. Does anyone else find it hard to keep up the routines and also do their work.... and also look after small people....mine at the moment is just about to get a cold I think....

petal2019 · 13/02/2020 04:54

However, I am going to have a mini middle of the night blitz and see if I cant get it all straight again!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/02/2020 06:02

petalwelcome aboard
A lot of us work/have DC who are little or SEN underfoot or both.we all gave great days but lots chaotic ones!!one day at a time and be kind to yourself

*Bower" great news on path.my memory's now shocking.hope DH not hungover and grumpy today

Willow and week done to D's for finishing Barry potter!!

Lane I like to thank people who are kind.lots are paid to be supportive but there are verying levels people offer and appreciation is very underrated these days which is a dreadful shame.love the earrings

KT hope toddler is tamer today.well done achieving anything whilst firefighting!Star

DS got offered sleeping medshe's reluctant to say the least.medic wants sertraline too if poss next visit as a year without significant improvement they feel warrants it.ds isn't hay with this development..his new colouring book came

foxessocks · 13/02/2020 07:16

Morning all! Hope you got some rest lane

My cough and cold is going but still had me up in the night Sad I attempted a new sports club last night , two hours long, omg I ache all over this morning! A sport I used to play pre children (in fact one of the guys there remembers me playing at 8 months pregnant!) Finally pushed myself to start again, glad I did I had fun..just so tired! Also there were no women in the group so that was interesting!

Must get up!

LaneBoy · 13/02/2020 07:42

Oooh that’s exciting foxes well done! I’m intrigued as to the sport but obviously no worries if it’s too outing to say.

Zoo wow, how do you feel about the melatonin? It’s a better option (IMHO) than sleeping pills at least. It has helped DD no end. Many autistic people simply don’t produce enough of the hormone themselves so it just balances that. The only thing you have to be careful of is that he takes regular breaks - we do about 3 breaks a year of a fortnight each, otherwise the brain gets even lazier about it basically, so would produce less itself, and he’d need to increase the dose sooner. Sorry if all that is repeating what the doctor said

Hello petal welcome! I don’t work anymore (health stuff) but totally understand how as soon as you focus on something else the housework goes to shit again :o

Forgot to say awwwww at ear-wings cineraria :o

Well done to DS for finishing chamber of secrets willow

Must get up and sort my stuff out. It’s the first time I’ll have taken Cagletini out myself for two weeks but the dizziness hasn’t been so bad the last few days so should be ok.

I do have a TFL “please offer me a seat” badge that I need to dig out (goodness knows where... never know where anything is in this house Blush) for the bus. I hate feeling paranoid about sitting in the priority seats!

Sorry for the long post.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 13/02/2020 07:52

Thanks all. DS2 is staying at home today. He's been running at 110% all term and is just going over the edge where his health breaks down. I and the Clinical Psych joined the dots yesterday and realised this has been going on in a cycle since Y5, and it has to stop. He's using up the most effective years of his life running to someone else's timetable and hurting himself, and I won't have it. The school need serious reining in and a long conversation about hEDS not just being "a bit bendy" or "having funny elbows". We thought he might have PoTS for a while too, when he went through a phase of fainting when he stood up, but it was never bad enough for diagnosis.

DS3 is picking up on the tension as well and is going through "what if I'm too stupid to live and just fail everything" this morning. Age 9. Bloody hell, the British education system sucks if you're not at the centre of the bell curve and totally neuro/physically typical.

Anyway. Enough of that! Welcome petal, flylady is great for keeping the underlying things ticking over while you deal with work and littlies, but it does take practice and you can't run before you can walk. Babysteps!

Bower, path sounds great! Will you and your friend eventually get to your event at the right place on the right evening? 😉
Foxes, glad you enjoyed your return to sport!
Zoo it's never ending, is it? Sertraline very much helped DS1 to get back on an even keel and DD takes fluoxetine (dose reducing now she's out of mainstream school. Funny that).

Bloody MN has just eaten my To Do list, so I shall just get on with it and hope to post it as Ta Das later!

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 13/02/2020 07:54

Dammit, it ate the second half of my name checks too. Cherry waves, everyone, I'm off to walk the dog before I throw my phone across the room!

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/02/2020 07:58

Just realised I said Barry potter books, wtf are they🤣

WillowD's role school put everyone in box and if you don't fit they try and make you fit rather change the shape.drives me mental!

Lane at mo it's very casual.takes as and when he will, doesn't need be everyday etc.he refuse saying I will go bed early.clearly didn't sleep as took ages get up and looks like a zombie!I will try and convince him again tonight!!

Tada

Bowerbird5 · 13/02/2020 09:12

Morning.
🤣Zoo it made me laugh Barry Potter.
Foxes also intrigued about which sport you can be doing at 8 months pregnant and is now only men. Volleyball, bowls, badminton 🤔
Willow so annoying to lose posts. Sorry your DH is stressed out at present, the work load is incredible now.
Lane Hope you enjoy playgroup. Other people on the bus are probably dealing with their own shit and probably don’t notice if you sit in priority seats.
ED thanks for links. They are fun. We have a good laugh about how forgetful we are getting. C has been at the club longer than me. I joined in December to watch someone quite famous in the flower world do Christmas flowers. He was 😂 hilarious, the tales he told. We go to the gardening club as well and she is in my quiz team which is how we met. She didn’t have a team and we didn’t have full capacity. She is a lovely lady and weirdly we look alike so get mistaken for sisters.

Welcome petal we all struggle to keep on top of things so post

Ta Das if we get something done. We also invented the Power of Three where you post three things you would like to achieve then when done you chose another three if you want. It keeps you focused. There are several other little sayings so feel free to ask if you don’t know what we are on about like LOL load of 🧺 laundry.

Must get moving have a new appointment today so may not be flying anywhere and as it is bathroom it is stripped as being re- tiled now next week.

ChicCroissant · 13/02/2020 09:33

Morning, welcome petal and welcome back cineraria.

Not caught up with the thread fully, but I bought a bullet journal from Aldi the other day , and also just a tad of yarn while I was there ....

Been out every morning this week, same again today too! Only one of them was gainful employment though, so I could skip the rest but don't want to so will attempt to clean up the kitchen after DH's epic cooking marathon the other night (still not fully back to normal) and do some ironing. I've been doing regular ironing sessions and missed one this week and you can really tell! I had to iron DD a shirt this morning!

Will catch up over lunchtime, see you later.

Yep it's one of those bower Grin lane I was probably being over cautious not saying anyway!

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 13/02/2020 13:26

Rest of yesterday's ta-da's
✔️ took DS1 to get his GF valentines things
✔️ ordered a new sky remote as DS4 smashed ours off the wall. DH managed to fix it anyway but at least we'll have a spare
✔️ made lunches
✔️ reading with DS3
✔️ nipped you Tesco for a couple of things
✔️ took my sister to pick her boyfriend up from the airport. Sat and waited ages before I realised he was flying in from Heathrow so wouldn't be arriving at the international part but the domestic flight part 🤦‍♀️ poor lad came through all excited to see her and there was nobody there.
Came home and pretty much fell straight to sleep on the sofa.

Should be at college today but I'm skiving again. Will go in later for back to back math mocks though 😩

Today's ta-da's
✔️ breakfast
✔️ S&S
✔️ spent far too long before school helping the DC decide what they want to wear for the school disco tonight
✔️ school run
✔️ scrubbed limescale off bathroom taps
✔️ general tidy round everywhere
✔️ ironing
✔️ made lunch
✔️ cleaned DS4 lunch from the highchair, walls, floor and everywhere else he'd managed to get it
✔️ 3 x LOL
✔️ he fell asleep on me for a bit while he was having some milk and since I was stuck under him I decided to nap with him. Only 10 mins.

Apart from that I've just followed him round the house clearing up the trail of destruction he leaves everywhere he goes.

Going to do some ironing now as DS1 shirt for the disco needs running over.

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/02/2020 14:03

All lower floors washed on hands and knees
Organised some recipes
Lunch
Sat pray on phone...
DS off in mo with tutor on his jolly so hoping finish sorting recipes, then I can menu plan.as hols next week I can hopefully tempt zoolets some hot/varied lunches as we have got into awful rut lately of cheese with pasta/wraps/sandwiches and lots veg/salad/fruit or cerealSad
Things have been highly stressful try sort ECHP,keep dd2 eating anything and managing DS etc but I feel bad as my anxiety deffo worsens if I feel they not eating well as I would like....

Tinselette1940 · 13/02/2020 15:39

Will make lasagne for tea. Rested up a bit today except for rotating laundry.

LaneBoy · 13/02/2020 15:58

You’d be surprised bower there are a lot of judgy comments when buses are busy (huge town so they usually are) - things like “she clearly can’t fucking read [the priority seating sign]” about a young person sitting there 😣 it makes me so sad and anxious as I hate people thinking badly of me and they never say it to your face so you can explain. Similar with blue badges etc too really.

ta da
✅made it to playgroup in good time
✅bought easy dinner in coop as it’s cheaper than a takeaway
✅found out something for a friend (must message her now while I remember)
✅quick bit of drawing
✅Solihull reading/write up

That just leaves me with the Solihull homework (looks pretty simple - about language we use/could change when our kids have been naughty or are upset), and reading the ACEs handbook up to the midpoint (it’s just what we’ve already discussed really but I’ve not actually read it other than the homework bits) - I’ll try and do all that tomorrow and then I’m putting the folders away and forgetting they exist for a bit!

LaneBoy · 13/02/2020 16:43

Zoo your stuck in a rut food is probably still healthier than our general diet ATM Blush I really admire all the stuff you do for your kids! I’m sorry things are so stressful :(

I’ve done nothing since I got home. Cagletini is watching baconface so I might try and make a start on that reading.

Trying and failing at not obsessively watching my emails for one that I don’t even know will arrive Hmm not a very productive use of my time Hmm.

We3kingsoforientareandabump · 13/02/2020 16:55

Had a lovely afternoon just playing with DS4 this afternoon. I feel guilty sometimes as when the others were his age I was only working part time so I had at least 2 days a week at home with them and he doesn't get that ☹️.

Had dinner all ready before the school run as only and hour to do school run get them fed washed and ready for the disco. Thankfully we only live next door.

Have done the dishes and now sat outside of college waiting to go in and do my maths mocks.

LaneBoy · 13/02/2020 17:14

Good luck we3!

I still haven’t moved.

Taking the time to read a long thread I’ve joined (stately homes) as Cagletini is leaning on me

ExpletiveDelighted · 13/02/2020 19:24

Thought I'd check in early tonight and then have a MN free evening.

Tada!
Washing into dryer
Bathroom floor cleaned, about to wash shower curtain, grout sprayed with bleach.
Work
Home early, popped to allotment to check for storm damage from weekend - none
Admin stuff for my volunteer role, an annual thing which is quite stressful but finished for this year about two hours ago.
Chivvied DCs to unload dishwasher
Today's load done and about to put in dryer
Few bits and bobs put away in kitchen
Veg scraps to compost
Recycling emptied.

Lane - may I ask why your course is called Solihull?

We3 - good luck with the maths

Tinselelette - howe are you feeling now?

And you That? Well done on your assignment BTW.

Zoo - I am in awe of how well you feed your DCs. Mine are difficult shall we say in that department and I too often seem to resort to shop bought breaded chicken, frozen pizza etc.

Chic - well done on the yarn purchasing Wink. Have you tried bullet journalling before? I do it, a bit sporadically, but do find it useful.

Petal - I think I can speak for pretty well all of us when I say we are on this thread because we find it a struggle managing work, home, DCs, medical conditions etc, please ask if you don't understand anything.

Bower - I do like hearing about your quizzes and flower club, it all sounds very fun and sociable.

Willow - totally get you about the square peg/round hole education system.

Foxes - well done on your sporting acheivements!

If I have missed anyone, sorry, there are so many of us it's hard to keep up, but I love it when the thread is busy.

Just off to finish making curry for dinner and eating, then will pop back with links.
