Welcome to the first Flylady thread of the decade! This is a friendly ongoing thread where we follow (loosely. In some cases, very loosely. Blush) the Flylady method for sorting out our homes and lives!

Newbies are always welcome here! It’s a long running thread so please don’t worry if we appear cliquey. There’s a lot of chatter and support for all sorts of things, alongside the housework stuff.

Over recent months we have agreed that big lists of daily links aren’t necessary - on a daily basis I will post (if I remember... it is maybe 18 months since I last hosted so please forgive any screw ups Blush) a link to the launch pad, which is where you can access the information for that day - babysteps, missions, daily focus etc. But if you’re confused about anything, please ask!

Check out the website too - but we suggest not signing up for the millions of emails.

Information on getting started here.

The great thing about Flylady is that you jump in where you are. Everything you do is progress. Don’t worry about not “keeping up”. Any achievement, however small, means progress.

Anyway, huge thank you to Stressy for running our very busy December thread! Thanks

And... HAPPY NEW YEAR FLEDGLINGS!!!

Don’t think writing my journal will happen tonight :o but the rest is done.
Also ta da
✅looked through notes I’ve written for psychiatrist tomorrow (things to ask etc)
✅quick brain dump of a “stuff we need to sort out soon” list

Still need to look at bus times though actually. That is my last task of the day!

Hello LaneBoy! I am here. Grin

Now I will tidy. Tomorrow. I need to sort out my understairs cupboard as it's a right mess. It doesn't have a door so it's all falling out. Blush Need to sort it before the Christmas tree and decorations go back in there.

THAT90sBITCH · 02/01/2020 05:15

I have been up since 3am with unsettled baby who will only sleep ON me. There is a useless drunk twat in my bed so i cannot bring baby in there. Sat on sofa holding him like Angry really want to bash the man childs fucking head in right now

Some great lists everyone!
I'm trying to start each day with a rough list of targets(nothing to much) in a bit to keep moving forward but also to schedule in things I need to be doing for myself/my wellbeing as I run round behind everyone else and neglect myself completely

THAT90sBITCH · 02/01/2020 05:40

Still awake Sad have just given some calpol as when he wakes he is NOT happy. Hopefully not the start of teething Hmm

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/01/2020 05:54

I feel for you.all mine were rubbish sleepers

Stilllivinginazoo · 02/01/2020 05:55

Furry overlords ram up yowling I'm starving them.its cold and I don't want to move...best just get it over with and prize self from my cosy nest to start the day!!

HungryHazelEyes · 02/01/2020 06:18

that I'm sorry you're having a rough start to the year. I really hope, for your sake, that he realises real soon that he needs to help you out more, quit being so selfish. I really don't know what else to say, other than we are here for you so you can vent.

THAT90sBITCH · 02/01/2020 06:46

Finally asleep in his pram. Have just filled the sink as i used last bottle earlier which he didnt even want DC4 has just got up

Ty for the sympathy

KTCluck · 02/01/2020 07:54

That what a rubbish start to the day for you. Bet he’ll be moping round with a hangover all day too Angry. DD was a terrible sleeper as a baby and would only ever sleep in our bed. I had an arrangement with DH that if he was going out and getting drunk there was a bed made up for him on the sofa and he didn’t set foot upstairs. She’s 2.5 now and that’s still the rule. I suspect it will be forever Grin

Good flying Hazel!

Hi Believer

Brew Zoo. I also didn’t want to peel myself out of my nice warm pit but I did. Got DD ready for nursery, DH has taken her then he is out all day and I have the house to myself to get sorted ready for us all back to work and normal routine.

Ta Da
Nowt.

To Do
Shopping list
Big grocery shop
Fridge cleaned
Food away
Meal plan
Tree and decs all down and stored properly
Missions

1 load laundry
Ironing
Make soup with excess xmas dinner veg (I bought faaar too much).
Sort birthday present for DF.
Work bag and uniform sorted for me for tomorrow. DH’s work clothes located.

Better get a shifty on...

LaneBoy · 02/01/2020 08:26

Morning all. Solidarity for the non sleeping child crew, mine was awake until 2ish Hmm so I really didn’t want to be up at 7.30 (and I did that annoying thing where you wake up, think you have a while to get back to sleep before the alarm goes, but then realise you have like two minutes. 😡).

Not really sure about my aims for the rest of the day after appt/yoga. I may well sleep TBH if I get the chance!

Zoo I am glad to read you are taking care of YOU. ❤️

Have a great day Fledglings, launch pad is here :) errand day today, go get stuff done, or something...

Ok so since my last post i have managed to put baby ds down twice, for a total of 45 min. I see today going well. Hes currently asleep on me but if i put him down he wakes up Sad

LaneBoy · 02/01/2020 09:26

Got to clinic.

Appt is 2pm not 9.30am. 😳🙈🤦‍♀️😂

Oh well at least I enjoyed the walk to town.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 02/01/2020 09:36

that was a rubbish morning, and I found it always seemed worse at night time. Hope you can get some rest today and H steps up to help with that.

Zoo, brilliant you found time for you! Lane, I am trying to close down Christmas with a list of what worked and push forward into next year with diary notes like yours. I use a bullet journal though (except for homeschool control, that's definitely a diary) so we'll see if that works. I really need the world to stop for a couple of weeks, but we're hurtling towards back to school on Monday.

I wrote 2 huge lists yesterday and have frightened myself silly with the list of things I'm responsible for this year. DS2 needs quiet support with the ADHD and dyslexia he's insisting publically he doesn't have, so nothing's allowed in the diary or on the calendar and I'm certain something's going to get missed, in a way that can only be expensive. He's chosen to take ritalin, but it's removed his appetite altogether and he needs me to help build an eating structure and enforce it.

DD is taking a GCSE a year early that we need to stay on top of, and to keep the school's nose to the grindstone on adjustments for ASD and SPD (particularly with external exams). I also need to help her build an "understanding English Lit" matrix as her ASD makes nuance in poetry and prose almost impossible for her.

DS3 needs us to kickstart an EHCP assessment (20 weeks, but we are to expect total refusal the first time as the LA use that as a way to weed out chancers and people trying to play the system), get him proper OT help with dyspraxia and slow processing, possibly arrange an assessment for absence seizures, apply for the 11+ which he is determined he's going to take because his siblings did.

DS1 may be at a distance, but we are still supporting him financially and he is still seeing a counsellor for anxiety / depression / anorexia that we are also paying for. It's very complex and I'm terrified I'm going to drop an important plate and one of them will get hurt.

It all makes my plans to lose 3 stone and stop biting my fingernails look a bit pathetic.

So, I need to Fly to keep the house going. Today's plans:

  • morning routine
  • decorations other than trees down and away
  • clean fridge to make space for
  • big shop
  • flylady's daily mission
  • possibly a quick hoover as I'm all out of phase with the home bleugh
  • sketch out all of the above projects with DH, marking milestones, dates and deadlines, who's doing what etc. I really wish we had a shared hivemind it would make it so much easier if I could read something and he'd know it!
  • work out where the money is coming from for all of these things!

Lane, where do you get your clever "tick" emojis?

THAT90sBITCH · 02/01/2020 09:43

✅☑✔

I have these in my phone keyboard emoji bit, under the weird triangle with arrows thing

ExpletiveDelighted · 02/01/2020 10:00

Oh Willow, what a lot to be dealing with. I only have two DCs, but both have some SENs, the oldest has an EHCP and is in his gcse year so a lot of support needed there, DLA to PIP to deal with as well as getting 6th form placement confirmed. DD is "just" dyslexic but still needs extra support, keep in touch with school etc. DH is also (undiagnosed) dyslexic/dyspraxic or similar and navigating all this paperwork and appointments, in fact pretty well all family admin is completely my domain as he just wouldn't cope with it and it's easier for me to do it all myself than get him involved if I'm honest.

IWillWearTheGreenWillow · 02/01/2020 10:32

Found them, thank you That ✅☑️❎ !

It is a lot, Expletive. Sounds like you have plenty going on too. My DH is undiagnosed but almost certainly where the ADHD sits; I think my DDad had it too, and the dyslexia came from him. Poor old DS2 has a double dibble in that regard.

Right, enough self pity.

  • beginning of month bills paid ☑️
  • DW rotated ☑️
  • washing on ☑️
  • teenage sloths poked awake ☑️ (may have to repeat that!)

Going to have a quick wash and walk the hound.

ChicCroissant · 02/01/2020 10:44

The Art of Discarding - it's a book that Marie Kondo has read and mentions in her book, I found that really useful and got it cheap for Kindle a while ago (if you don't have a Kindle you can download a reader to use on a laptop/phone/tablet) although it's not on offer at the moment.

Done nothing here yet Blush, will crack on shortly.

THAT90sBITCH · 02/01/2020 11:39

Ok. The essay has been sent. Its not great but under the circumstances its as good as it is going to get.

Baby ds has been asleep in his pram for around 45 mins after a dose of nurofen. Hopefully he wakes up happier 🤞

Going to get the washer and dryer going then see about packing away Christmas 🎄📦

Tinselette1940 · 02/01/2020 11:41

Well done that. Hope baby is feeling better, poor love.
