Festive fledglings flying through December - the Flylady thread

TooStressyTooMessy · 30/11/2019 15:03

Welcome to the December (dare I say the Christmas?!) Flylady thread. This is a really lovely thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

Every day I will post a link to the launchpad which has everything you need for that day if you do want to follow the system strictly. Plenty of options to follow the system more loosely as well :).

Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise not to as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn!

Any newbies are very welcome Smile.

**
Flylady also does Christmas missions which I will link to each day. They are really useful and nearer the time she does super missions which help you if you have not managed the regular missions. They are just there to help and as Flylady says... do not worry as you do not need to catch up, just jump in where you are Smile.

Link to the holiday cruising is

here

December’s habit is usually [[http://www.flylady.net/d/habits-of-the-month/december/
pampering yourself]] which is much needed this busy time of year. This can be as simple as taking two minutes to have a cup of tea, if long pampering sessions are unachievable.

The website will update to the December missions etc in the next few days so I will link it again if it is different.

*
A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is [[http://www.flylady.net/c/sp.php#missions here].

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Please note that while there is lots of information on the website, from a security point of view we would advise caution with putting any personal details in or downloading anything.

Also a huge thank you to Ghoulette for the November thread.

toostressy argh sewing kits! We didn't get any this year but last year we did and i was completely hopeless at helping with them!

I pretty much use brown paper for all presents! It's more eco friendly too (and cheaper!) we didn't for Christmas because we had lots of Xmas paper to use up. It's amazing how much we actually had in the house without realising!

Bowerbird5 · 29/12/2019 20:21

People have been busy.

I’ve been to Mass.Delivered a gift but friend was out. I have left it in a bag by the door. Hope no one nicks it.

Just having a light meal of last of the gammon and a baked potato.
Start menu planning for tomorrow but don’t know if I can get DH to stick to it.
I would really love a big bowl of macaroni cheese☹️
My hiatus hernia is bothering me. I think it is to do with the food and possibly the wine I have consumed. I found two tablets last night so I had a good sleep. Last tablet available if I need it later.

Will have a proper look at that thanks Toostressy .
Had a quiet afternoon. Will be back at choir next week.

Stilllivinginazoo · 29/12/2019 20:21

When dd1 was little I unrolled a lining paper roll and we did Xmas potato prints all over it.(when I only had one child and more time on my hands)

Bowerbird5 · 29/12/2019 20:27

DD printed her paper the last two years. She made Lino prints on brown paper with natural string.

Zoo what a blooming nuisance about cat poo. Our cat did a stinky one this morning but luckily in the tray and my backdoorshoes were far enough away.

TooStressyTooMessy · 29/12/2019 20:53

Love the idea of brown paper. Had thought of doing it this year but we had loads of paper already from last year. Still have one and a half rolls to carry over to next Christmas!

We got given some more Christmas presents today. DD1 got... a sewing kit Xmas Confused. We are going to have to get her a basket for her room for all the kits!

Thanks ToostressyI just feel tired drained of energy. I wonder if I am fighting off the lurgy. Coughing, a bit of a sore throat, sneezing.

KTCluck · 29/12/2019 21:39

Zoo we also a had a random-bit-of-cat-poo incident today Envy (not envy). Thankfully on wood floor not carpet.

SC hope the finale dinner is going well. Next year I think you and your family deserve to be guests rather than hosts.

Good luck with the essay Ive

Thanks for the thread link Too. Will peruse that next. I intended on brown paper this year too but wanted to use up what we already had first - we still have enough to cover next year I think Blush. Fly lady and Marie kondo can be thanked for me being able to lay my hands on what we had already. It’s been a different life compared to last December!

Tada wise I got the last of the home bleurgh done, and a more thorough clean of the bathroom including the window sill and the manky toothbrush pot. Washing basket is almost empty ready for two days at work.

We had a lovely afternoon at a family get-together at my dad’s, and DH drove so it was my turn to have a drink for a change. Had to leave earlier than I’d have liked to be sensible for work, but we had DD in her PJs before leaving so had a seamless transition from car to bed Grin.

The only downside to today was a bit of an argument with DH about DMIL. We get on well but she is prone to dramatics and I suspect has some health anxiety. She never just has a cold, and when she’s unwell has DH and DFIL worried sick, struggling with her breathing while refusing to see a doctor. This results in a few days of DH being run ragged at her beck and call, stressing. Today it ruined my turn for a lie in, lunch plans, and then DH said he wasn’t in the mood to go to my dad’s and I lost the plot a bit as it has been planned for ages Blush. I feel bad as I know my lie in is nothing compared to someone’s health, but I find it so frustrating that she gets the whole family stressed out and life stops, whereas I come from a family of NHS workers who all suck it up, don’t stress out everyone unnecessarily and are able to recognise a genuine emergency. Not saying our way is right - we had little sympathy when ill over the age of around 10, but I find it hard to deal with the drama. I did apologise to him, and he came and enjoyed himself, but it put a dampener on things. Sorry for the rant! (Obviously MIL is fine).

Does anyone have any exciting plans for new year (other than SC who is hopefully relaxing rather than hosting)? We haven’t made any and I suspect it will be a quiet one although I’m off on NYD and may meet up with some friends.

KTCluck · 29/12/2019 21:40

Hope those fledglings and junior fledglings that are under the weather feel better soon.

TooStressyTooMessy · 29/12/2019 21:51

NHS worker here KT. I definitely don’t do dramatics about illness (unless it is actually serious). I will give some sympathy for routine illness but family know that, like most NHS workers, it is very limited Grin. Sorry you lost your lie in Flowers.

ChristmasCroissant · 29/12/2019 22:31

Spent over an hour washing up today, caught up briefly before we ate again Xmas Grin I just had soup, may try some cheese and crackers later as well. Don't feel very hungry though, but doing much better today.

Watched the Eddie the Eagle film tonight which was good, did cringe at all the falls though. Is that an age thing, you realise how much they would have hurt now?

The large plastic baskets (Carver ones) were half-price in Tesco last week so did buy one to stash DD's gifts in after opening. There are still presents in her room from last year that she's hardly touched though. Must get her to use them (crafty or arty stuff) or move them on, there are so many craft kits I'm not sure she could ever use them all!

Sleep well, fledglings!

Tinselette1940 · 29/12/2019 22:42

Glad you are doing better Christmas croissant. I am fighting off a cold and got a chill on Saturday when bus failed to materialise. Stayed home today.

We are zone 5/living room this week until 1 Jan, I think?

Will remove decorations on 2 January.

Night fledglings.

LivingInLaputa · 30/12/2019 00:31

We used up all our wrapping paper this Christmas without buying new, so I want to start using brown paper next year. Is it likely to be on post-Christmas sale anywhere or is it not, because it’s just bog standard parcel paper anyway?

I am really intrigued about using fabric giftwrap though.

Really overwhelmed with too many people the last few days. Ended up crying in my room earlier #dramallama

Also realised I’ve not left the house at all in a week. Swimming tomorrow morning though as a friend is picking me up and then I’ll go back via town as we need a new diary.

ShamblyChristmas · 30/12/2019 01:39

Hello! Dinner went well. Had four extra (lovely) guests tonight so lots of clearing up but apart from putting essentials in fridge I've left it all for the morning. It's 2.35 am here and we have to be up at 7.30 am for airport run. Wrote a longer post (as usual Xmas Smile) but lost it so going to try and sleep now! G'night all!

ShamblyChristmas · 30/12/2019 06:06

well that went quickly

ShamblyChristmas · 30/12/2019 06:09

Hope you both feel better soon Tinselette and Chic Brew

I know what you mean about too many people Laputa hope you can have some semi-alone-time in water!

Have a good day fledglings!

ShamblyChristmas · 30/12/2019 06:11

Stilllivinginazoo · 30/12/2019 06:24

IVEgotthetinselBITCHES · 30/12/2019 07:57

Morning all

I have been up since ...... 440. Thank you dc5. I have however made a start on the essay so every cloud and all that!

My dd always gets lots of craft stuff, we too have a cupboard of unopened ones including a make your own nail polish one which is strategically hidden (why would you buy this for a then 5 year old!)

Our tree is staying until the 2nd i think. Its pretty dead looking though, looks grim if lights are off.

I like pretty wrapping paper Blush

We pretty much dont do overnight guests apart from occasional dc sleepover. Other people in my space gets on my nerves, i dont know how you all do it!

Tinselette1940 · 30/12/2019 08:01

Ta da kitchen tidied, pots dried, laundry rotated, living room tidied, brought husband coffee as not up due to back pain.

To do empty dishwasher, another load of laundry.

At present MNetting, coffee.

House is stirring

IVEgotthetinselBITCHES · 30/12/2019 08:03

Ta da

Ordered school polos for dc4
Ordered iron on name labels

I have dc 3 and 4 awake, dc5 napping, dc1 and 2 in bed.

Stilllivinginazoo · 30/12/2019 08:39

I've my teeth itch at thought overnight guests too.since D's became more of a struggle the girls friends haven't visited, but we are plan try reintroduce this for short bursts.sleepovers are an entirely different kettle of fish!I preferred only in big 6week hols when they used to happen(back in the day)

Tada
Craft stuff girls got all neat and tidy in plastic drawers I bought at wilko
Dd2 has artists coloured pencils and drawing pencils, putty rubber, and foil art/scraping type kits in drawer number one, along her sketch books
Drawer two has her calligraphy stuff in
Drawer three has lil zoo wooden mannequin, sketching pencils and pads, watercolour paints in.her art kit won't fit and shall lay along side said drawers

I am semi confident I can eradicate dd2 pile today, lil zoo only has a beauty box left under table having helpfully took her book stash and fake plants upstairs yesterday.as said box has make up in I'm not adverse it staying put til I'm confident we aren't going to have eyeshadow /nailvarnish all over her bedding....
