Cherry waves hello to November 2019. Fledgling Flylady thread for all.[smile]

Welcome to the November Flylady thread Fledglings! All are welcome here. A few of us have been around a while but everyone, newbie and lurking, is welcome to join in.

This is my first time running the thread so I hope other fledglings will alert me when I’ve got things confused or if I’ve left something out!! A busy month for us all with the holiday season looming next month…

Very simply Flylady is a zone-based cleaning system which we loosely follow. Everyone is different and has different rooms and life demands. There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
November
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sat 30)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look but signing up for emails will probably lead to very many landing in your inbox. Also there has been some concern about securely downloading pdfs from the site. here

Flylady has an introductory scheme for newbies called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc. What I like about Flylady is her emphasis on self care, her abhorrence of perfectionism and her adage that you’re never being behind in the system - just jump in. No need to completely clean your house before you start – phew! here

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. The system isn’t brilliant for major decluttering so you might want to supplement with Kondo or another decluttering system. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of November is meal planning. This is my Achilles heel! here

We have a lovely virtual naughty corner where we can all retreat – there are all manner of lovely things left there by thread members including fluffy pillows, warm blankets, tea, coffee, wine, delicious foods. This month there are plenty of candles to brighten the darker days.
There may be mention of Ned who started life as an autocorrection on the thread but who has now morphed into a virtual helper with a specialism in putting away laundry. Ned is borrowed by thread members from time to time when the going gets tough on Mount Washmore.
Most days we pop on to post our ta da list of what we’ve managed to do and have a bit of a natter.

I’ve fallen off the wagon again, so did a 10 minutes per room blitz today. It’s looking better but not great. Basically in that time I’ve managed to put a lot of things away, but no cleaning, so that’s my next job, after a rest. 7 weeks to go with the pregnancy, and I’m exhausted, so the house is the first thing to suffer. Luckily the DCs are on a play date so I can try to catch up.

ChicCroissant · 21/11/2019 16:01

I hope it is somewhere other than the loft, it's rammed up there and I'd never find it Grin I think it's likely to be in the back of an old calendar so I will start there.

Times I think with seven weeks to go you can cut yourself some slack regarding cleaning. Just do whatever you can but make sure you rest up.

I woke with a dodgy tummy and headache and it's a no school day here today and tomorrow. So we've just cuddled up on the sofa. Watched 'The Holiday' earlier. I put the bins out and took them in. We grazed. Not even a wing flap today Grin

I can see why you'd be wary zoo - that would have been so traumatic. I hope if you encounter a SW again they are more helpful.

Chic watching cats sleep is excellent for mental health. Be more cat!

Did online shop for food and Christmas online shopping. And kept the Kitchen ticking over. But was not remotely hungry today.

Tomorrow we plan to escape to local shop for milk and bread. I cancelled football training tonight even though ds is getting better - I was feeling rough and we hadn't eaten much. (he is better SC)

I hope to resume normal service tomorrow - there's ironing and hoovering to do.

Well, I felt better this afternoon. Popped out to the shops at lunchtime, chatted with a friend on messenger and spent a couple of hours faffing about with photos on laptop. A few years ago we had a hard drive failure - we did have an old backup portable hard drive but it took a while to restore the photos as it was so old and I spent a long time thinking we'd lost several years worth. Eventually got them back and I am now systematically backing them up onto a new hard drive one month at a time going backwards, got to 2009 today, happy memories. I am also going backwards making photo books, but have only got as far as 2016 it takes so long choosing photos, arranging them etc.

Sistercharlie · 22/11/2019 06:20

Good moring!

I really should back up our photos too Expletive, glad you are feeling better!

Hope you are feeling better Ghoulette!

Take it very steady Times10 Flowers

Hope you find doc Chic!

Bravo I've especially re: 3 charity bags worth of decluttering! Star

Bulbs sound really fab Zoo!

Sorry your day was crap yesterday Laputa Flowers

If it's any consolation, mine was too! (Well it ended in a huge row). Sad.

Today not off to a very good start either. Neighbour rang me at 9pm last night to say he and his father are coming for tea (grrrr) so I got up just now to bake early before cleaning lady gets here at 8.30 (so I don't muck up kitchen again after she has been) but I have no flour and only one egg! Bad planning! Gah!

Ta da yesterday:
Three dog walks (DH away)
Emptied DW
Dd packed lunch
On-line Christmas shopping
Packed up three on-line return parcels and a birthday present for posting.
Rubbish and recycling
Looked up recipes
Saw friend for coffee and had loonnnggg chat
E-mailed another friend about w/e arrangments
Spoke to another friend about different arrangements
Wrote very diplomatic (I hope) e-mail to one family branch about Christmas arrangements (haven't sent it yet - sleeping on it)
Tried on three dresses for event and couldnt fit in to any of them (and they are my "fat" dresses. Feel (and look) like a weeble.

A couple of hrs "work" work again. Stultifying boring.
Nipped to chemist
Nipped to bakery for bread
Cleared hallway of boxes, shoes, coats and general crap.
Heated up supper (prepped it yesterday)
Cleared up kitchen, put on dw
Had massive row with DH over phone. Then had row with DD over same issue as she (predictably) agreed with DH of course (and easy option). Contemplated leaving them to it and getting the Eurostar back to the UK for about 3 mins but decided it was too cold outside!

Again, very little actual Flying achieved. House still a shit tip.

Fancy hiding in a dark cupboard and eating cake today but had better find some grapes and crack on!

Have a good one everybody!

foxessocks · 22/11/2019 06:50

sc "find some grapes and crack on" made me chuckle Smile hope today is a better one.

Ds came in this morning saying he'd wet the bed so have already got a wash on! Dd was up a few times in the night with a sore throat, she's not up yet so still waiting to see if we will be taking her to school or not.

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/11/2019 07:00

after all that you deserve it lovely.its very unpleasant when you feel ganged up on,and 9 X out of 10 in my house it's because what's been asked of requires a smidge off effort and a nasty attack of CBA and attitude towards said task follows.sending solidary vibesFlowers

I think I might develop the shakes or similar if I had no flour in my cupboards!!(currently have g.f flour too) I made gf vegan scones yesterday.my mix was more like Rock cake so I followed on tray but they rise a little and had a spongy texture unlike my past attempts at gluten free that were like cement dd2 scarf one not with butter and jam after-school,another after dinner with just butter.i only made 4(half recipe) as they don't keep well so one in lunch box today, and last one after-school with hot chocolate!

Try to organise town trip for lil zoo and friends to Xmas shop.3 out if 4 have plans.i very reluctant take gaggle 11/12 year olds into town on a Saturday in December to do it.hoping last one can go or I am totally up the creek without a paddle

Stilllivinginazoo · 22/11/2019 07:01

Xpost foxes hope little girl fox is ok,lots nasty coughs and throat bugs around here at the mo

LivingInLaputa · 22/11/2019 07:22

Eeeek good luck with EHCP meeting zoo

Sorry I’m not really keeping up with the thread at all I’m just hiding under a blanket in the haughty corner, only emerging for chocolate supplies.

(Funny thing is, Cagletini actually does say haughty instead of naughty! She’s obviously a fledgling at heart)

Event at the local museum today, hoping enough people show up after I recruited for them, but we’ve had a lot of cancellations and it doesn’t reflect well on me or the HE community 😣

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 22/11/2019 09:02

Morning all,

Well I might feel a bit better but I'm still coughing and spluttering a lot so I have cancelled today's plans in order to spare other people from my germs.

Laputa - that's a shame about the event, its a tricky time of year, Christmas stuff starting up, lots of colds and illnesses about, hope it goes ok.

Zoo - hope the EHCP meeting is productive, we've been through this process, its not easy.

SC - grrr to guests who think you won't mind short notice.

I need to make a to do list. I'm still very tired so nothing strenuous but might finish photo back up and start Christmas cards.

Sistercharlie · 22/11/2019 09:50

Ta da:
DD lunch
emptied DW
dog walk 1
dining room table hot spot X 2
s&s
carried a load of stuff that was downstairs, upstairs, and vice versa.

Good luck with meeting Zoo ; have all fingers, toes, paws, hooves crossed for you here that it goes ok!
And yy, you have nailed our current family dynamic to a tee.

Hope you get some late shows Laputa! And of course Cagletini is a fledgling! Grin she is growing up right under our beaks Grin

Take it steady Expletive

Hope your dd can fight off the microbes Foxes!

Hope you are back on form today tooGhoulette!

Another Brew for Tidy , I've, Honu Toostressy Times10 KTCluck Bower and loads of people I have missed!

Fook it's awful though but thank fook for this thread as ever GrinGrin

Sistercharlie · 22/11/2019 09:52

Sorry for emboldening fail there Ghoulette

Forward the deluded brave!

Tidyhomewannabe · 22/11/2019 09:54

SC I know nothing about what kind of paperwork you need but it all sounds really complicated! Well done for chipping away at it, you'll be able to relax and enjoy the season if you can finish if for December. (I say relax , I mean 1 less thing to do on the run up to Christmas!) Great that dd presentation went well!

ED glad you're feeling better , how's the Christmas shopping going ?

Chic shortbread is my fav , sending some over to you .

Foxes hope your dd is ok, lots of nasty bugs around at the moment .

Zoo good luck for case worker meeting.

Laputa sending chocolate 🍫

Times don't be hard on yourself, pregnancy is hard work!

Ghoul hope you're feeling better soon.

I've well done for your decluttering!! StarStar

Tada
Emptied dishwasher
Lunches
Breakfast
Made beds
Bleached toilets

Kids tada
Made their beds
Opened curtains
Took pjs away
Cleared and wiped the table
Hoovered living room

The above list was not to my standard but they want pocket money so I'm going to try my very best to give them chores to do. I've asked them for 5 mins in the morning , ds 15 minutes, dd 30 minutes in the evening . I've used a whiteboard and wrote the things they must do (empty lunchboxes and place in sink, put washing in wash basket etc stuff they should do without being asked) then a list of chores that needs to be done but they can choose what they want to do then me and oh can do the rest. Last night ds checked every room for dirty clothes to put in wash basket, packed his toys away and paired some socks, dd wiped table, put dinner pots in dishwasher, folded dry clothes, placed them in rooms and put away her own. I set a timer and the whole family did something housework wise . The novelty will wear off I'm sure , but then their pocket money will stop so it'll be their choice rather than me nagging Grin

I better go and get something done while dd2 is at nursery .........

TooStressyTooMessy · 22/11/2019 09:56

Hi all, just catching up with the thread.

Have had a busy week and a very busy weekend coming up. Everything seems so busy this time of year.

To do:-
Planning today as a ‘reset’ day. Thankfully DH did home bleugh on Weds so am going to focus on tidying and getting stuff ready for weekend. Need to add in some physio exercises which have been sadly neglected. Also need to phone my mum re Christmas presents. Despite having the conversation multiple times now she is still unsure what the girls want but I am very grateful they want to buy them things so I will have the same conversation one more time this afternoon.

Ta da:-
Amazingly DD2 did some homework before school and I have established what Other homework is left for both girls as we need to plan time to do it before Monday.
Bought quick pizza tea for tomorrow night and bottle of gin for friend who is going to sew some dance stuff for me Grin.

Must get on!

Excellent news on DD’s dance exam Tidy if I have not said that already. Great news on scan Chic. Big wing flaps to everyone else as I know I have missed lots of you in that.

Tidyhomewannabe · 22/11/2019 10:59

Too we're having an easy pizza tea tonight aswell, ds has got friends round for tea - there isn't many kids who don't like pizza !

Tada

Cleaned bathroom
Tidied landing and hoovered
Hoovered stairs

To do
Shop for pizza
Pick dd2 up from nursery
Bottom of stairs /entrance hall
Playroom still needs some time spending on it
Make space for clothing rail on landing

Hopefully dd2 will be in a good mood and let me get a few things done - frozen fever has come into now tv which she lives so should give me 10 minutes to potter around .

TooStressyTooMessy · 22/11/2019 11:26

Absolutely Tidy, pizza is my go to playdate food Smile.

Sistercharlie · 22/11/2019 11:54

Love the sound of your family chore tactics Tidy sounds great! Bravo! for getting everyone on track! And thank you! I really am hoping to knock dossier in to touch 1st week Dec now. It all depends whether chaps behind desk will accept it though! They've rejected it twice already. Third time lucky eh? It would be so good if I didn't have to think about it over Christmas.

Good luck with your busy week and w/e ahead Toostressy! Sympathies re: Christmas communication! My bugbear atm is men people who answer first question in an e-mail, but not any subsequent ones, ie yes nephew will love that jumper thanks , but no mention of size that I asked about, or yes we we would love to meet you then but no mention of place or time! All requiring more follow up, gah, like pulling teeth !

Sistercharlie · 22/11/2019 13:42

Baking in progress (very slowly and carefully so as to not trash kitchen) and dh has left me apologetic message so communications are restored ... .

TooStressyTooMessy · 22/11/2019 14:00

YES SC to the only answering the first question AngryHmm!
