Cherry waves hello to November 2019. Fledgling Flylady thread for all.[smile]

Welcome to the November Flylady thread Fledglings! All are welcome here. A few of us have been around a while but everyone, newbie and lurking, is welcome to join in.

This is my first time running the thread so I hope other fledglings will alert me when I’ve got things confused or if I’ve left something out!! A busy month for us all with the holiday season looming next month…

Very simply Flylady is a zone-based cleaning system which we loosely follow. Everyone is different and has different rooms and life demands. There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
November
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sat 30)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look but signing up for emails will probably lead to very many landing in your inbox. Also there has been some concern about securely downloading pdfs from the site. here

Flylady has an introductory scheme for newbies called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc. What I like about Flylady is her emphasis on self care, her abhorrence of perfectionism and her adage that you’re never being behind in the system - just jump in. No need to completely clean your house before you start – phew! here

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. The system isn’t brilliant for major decluttering so you might want to supplement with Kondo or another decluttering system. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of November is meal planning. This is my Achilles heel! here

We have a lovely virtual naughty corner where we can all retreat – there are all manner of lovely things left there by thread members including fluffy pillows, warm blankets, tea, coffee, wine, delicious foods. This month there are plenty of candles to brighten the darker days.
There may be mention of Ned who started life as an autocorrection on the thread but who has now morphed into a virtual helper with a specialism in putting away laundry. Ned is borrowed by thread members from time to time when the going gets tough on Mount Washmore.
Most days we pop on to post our ta da list of what we’ve managed to do and have a bit of a natter.

ta das today:

cleaned kitchen and tidied house.
all ironing done - just a few loads of washing to go on.
Boudoir is tidy with all clothes hanging up.
Hall and living need a hoover tomorrow when there is daylight.
all bins are emptied.
living room table cleared of detritus

I am going to have a good scrub in the bath!

ive I'm sorry you've had a bad day. It is really frustrating when you want to get stuff done. Just go with the flow. Hopefully everyone will be more co-operative tomorrow. Flowers

Glad you found the singing uplifting Bower. It's heading towards Advent so I find the hymns just get better and better!

Have a good night everyone. We'll put our best feet forward tomorrow. A new week!

Grrr - just lost a post. Gateway timed out or some such nonsense!

Bower I'm glad you're feeling better. Advent is coming up fast and the hymns then are wonderful!

Goodnight fledglings!

Ta da
Uniforms ironed for tomorrow

Cuppa whilst watching I'm a celeb, I only recognise a couple of them this year!

LivingInLaputa · 17/11/2019 22:47

Technically we get through fewer clothes than expected at the moment... Cagletini still prefers spending most of her time naked Hmm :o

Just put the last wash in the dryer so hopefully between pain management group (DH) and work coach appt at job centre (me - insanely nervous) we can put the entire lot away.

Also need to phone the autism charity and set up a standing order to savings.

KTCluck · 17/11/2019 22:47

Ah balls. I’ve just realised my epic post didn’t actually post.

I’ll try again.

Hi all, how is the weekend over already?! We’ve had a lovely day, visited family this morning, a quiet few hours after lunch (I may have napped. DD did not.) then off to the local Christmas light switch on event.

I managed a bit of decluttering and more thorough cleaning in the master bedroom this morning (ahead of the game!) while DD was engrossed in playing. Two loads of washing are done and the washing basket temporarily has a bottom! We are all organised for tomorrow, and I did a 2 minute tidying blitz downstairs before I came up to bed.

This is the first weekend in a while I’ve enjoyed myself without feeling any sort of guilt about what I should have done at home. The house isn’t perfect but it isn’t chaos and I feel in control. I gather that’s fly lady’s aim so I think I need to stick to this thread and take all Fridays off for the foreseeable

Chic hope your daughters braces aren’t causing her too much bother.

Zoo no worries over getting these in her feet. She’s so proud of them and didn’t want to take them off for bed! I’m sure she’d live a pair of jazzy DMs too.

Ive sorry you’ve had a crap day. Can’t understand why kids avoid sleep. Don’t they know what they are missing?!

Glad you’re feeling better Bower

Managed the homeblessing thanks Tidy although certainly not within the suggested hour. My house is average sized. Could probably do it if it was tidy from the start.

Thanks for the snack Ghoul. They’ll finish off my weekend nicely.

Bowerbird5 · 17/11/2019 23:31

We sang Carol of the Bells and O Holy Night(my favourite) and a couple of others.Actually got through about five today. We don't sing all of it all the way through. Just fixing bits and will run through some all the way next week. We have a concert and lots of requests and we ask supermarkets so we can raise funds and our profile as we are trying to attract more men.Wink

Bowerbird5 · 17/11/2019 23:32

I've hope baby sleeps tonight. Sorry you have had such a hard day.Flowers

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 17/11/2019 23:48

Tada!

An hour at the allotment, sitting in the sunshine digging out weeds and listening to podcasts, just lovely.

Then home, stripped all beds, washed all bedding, swept garden leaves into garden waste bin, lunch, helped DS with revision, prepared dinner and took DS to football. Home to dinner, ironing in front of Strictly and then onto paperwork, where I may or may not have ordered £40 worth of wool.

So, quite a productive day. Tomorrow may be less so.

ChicCroissant · 18/11/2019 00:01

Evening (or middle of the night) all, DD is toughing out her brace - and the pain does seem to have subsided quite a bit - but is now slightly daunted by bad cramps which she sometimes gets before her period and the loss of contestants that she liked on the weekend reality TV shows. Life is hard.

We have been out today to a pottery painting place which is always fun, and DD did a lovely figure. Also, the secret gifts that I ordered I've seen photos of two of them online (except mine is the third one - where is mine?) and they look great. Looking forward to them arriving.

Have not finished laundry or ironing, and I am now drinking wine so hey, guess that's not likely to happen tonight Grin Sleep well, fledglings.

QueenOfOversharing · 18/11/2019 00:43

Thanks Living & Ghoulette

I got the living room rearranged!

Son did eff all, so tomorrow will have a rocket stuck up his a*se!

Ive also typed a checklist, by rooms of things to do. Broken down into ones I can manage & check off.

Feeling quite positive & it took my mind off putting down a huge boundary in a friendship & it not going down too well (I don't think).

Tidyhomewannabe · 18/11/2019 03:55

Kt that's amazing that you've had a lovely weekend without worrying about housework! Quality family time is so important!

Bower sounds lovely!

Queen well done on front room organising!

Tidyhomewannabe · 18/11/2019 04:05

Expletive it's been raining here all day ! I really could do with a dry day to get front garden tidied up, Ian no gardener though, we have a lovely big back garden and I just have no clue what to do with it!

Chic always choose wine over ironing ! Wine I love pottery painting, we have a local pottery place that I take the kids to every now and again.

Well I've had an hour , yes 1 hour sleep 😴 I was going to send dd2 back to nursery today but she'll be so tired she can have another day to recover. I'm not sure what's the matter, she came into our room about 1 and couldn't settle so we're downstairs watching trolls on tv, snuggled in a blanket . Hopefully she'll have a nap before 6 so I can get an hours sleep before the craziness begins - I'm so glad I got everyone's things out ready last night!

Ta da

Morning all

Tidy Brew

Feeding the baby who will hopefully then go back to sleep ....

Thanks for the kind words yesterday! Think i might need to focus on getting little things done today/tomorrow/whatever monday now is. Power of 3 maybe

Tidyhomewannabe · 18/11/2019 04:56

Ive I hope you manage some more sleep, power of 3 or just 5 minutes here and there will make a difference.

Stilllivinginazoo · 18/11/2019 05:52
HungryHazelEyes · 18/11/2019 06:26

Tidy I'm feeling much better now thank you. I think I figured out why I wasn't feeling good - I had started drinking 2 big cups of coffee every morning, and I think it's too much. Back to 1 cup tomorrow, let's hope no-one pisses me off if its not enough!

I can't say I'm jealous of those of you who have babies and toddlers! I don't think I could manage anymore, I just don't have the patience I used to. You deserve a medal!

Today I Skyped my mum, "helped" PILs with their front yard. I managed to do a couple strips with the lawnmower to pick up the leaves, when the guys were done with their job and it was lunchtime. After lunch I had to go to work (2nd job), so had to leave the rest for them to finish. Dinner was leftovers, making it easy and everyone helped to clean the kitchen (except DD- who's a teenager, need I say any more?). I did get my clothes out for tomorrow earlier to make sure I didn't have to iron so I was organised for the morning.

HungryHazelEyes · 18/11/2019 06:33

zoo I'm sorry you're struggling. Do you have any friends close by that can help you since "d"h isn't of any use? Even just a chat over tea/ coffee and cake, while dh gets the dc sorted?

Tidyhomewannabe · 18/11/2019 07:41

Zoo your 'd'p sounds like an arse! I'm so sorry that you had a crappy day . I watched I'm a celeb last night too - absolutely hilarious when they spotted that HUGE spider in the car!! On the shopping front, would you consider online shopping ? Morrison's is picked from the warehouse rather than the store so I'm told so everything is super fresh - a friend of mine uses it even though she drives and the store is less than 10 minutes away , she managed to get a years delivery pass for £20 ! Maybe worth having a look at for the occasions that he's being an absolute arse wipe !

Hazel glad you're feeling better, good luck with reducing the caffeine - I love my coffee!

Dd2 fell asleep on the sofa about 530 so I woke oh up at 550 so I could get an hours sleep before getting the kids up at 7. His alarm goes off at 6 anyway so it was only 10 minutes earlier than usual. Dd2 is still asleep and older 2 are being super good as they know I have had no sleep (oh has prewarned them I think Grin) so I'm cuddling a coffee before getting ready for the school run and having to wake the insomniac child Hmm

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 18/11/2019 08:23

Re online shopping zoo if you have any clubcard vouchers i think they can be trippled to use on cost of a delivery pass, this is what i will be spending some of mine on this year. I know morrisons have a points scheme so may do similar. Your dp is an arsehole. Seriously. Not surprised your dd2 is pissed off

TooStressyTooMessy · 18/11/2019 09:05

Morning all.

Sounds as if a few of you could do with Brew so I will put some out in the naughty corner. I have a third of a bottle of white wine left over for later tonight so we could all have a sip Grin.

Tidy, hope your DD’s dance exam went ok. DD1 has her first dance exam soon.

Have to go to a funeral today. I’m sure there will be lots of happy memories but it will be very sad as well.

At least I have got the dishwasher on and washing vaguely under control before I left the house this morning.

On a different note, anyone got any tips for ballet buns with very fine hair? I’m not too bad at them but need to put them in DD1, ballet teacher has said use donut but even with the smallest donut I can find from Amazon there is not enough hair to cover it really.

Tidyhomewannabe · 18/11/2019 09:06

Tada
Everyone's had breakfast
Washed and dressed (apart from dd2 who was still snoring until 815!)
Beds made
Washer on
Older kids off to school
Cleared draining board and emptied sink (has anyone else got family members who dumps random stuff on the draining board ?)

Cuppa now before I attempt upstairs - we'll see how much dd2 will let me get done !

BrewBrew to those who need it this morning

Tidyhomewannabe · 18/11/2019 09:13

Too dd1 came out really happy and thinks she's done well , principle has announced that everyone passed with the lowest score being commended, so she at least knows that she's passed , just got to wait for the actual scoring. Regarding ballet buns , a small donut if it'll fit, spread the hair over it evenly, pop a bobble over , pin where needed then pop a hairnet over to neaten any shorter flyaway bits. Or just twist the ponytail, wrap round and pin & bobble , then pop hairnet over .

Tidyhomewannabe · 18/11/2019 09:15

I forgot to add , so sorry that you are going to a funeral today, I hope all goes as well as it can do .
