Welcome to the November Flylady thread Fledglings! All are welcome here. A few of us have been around a while but everyone, newbie and lurking, is welcome to join in.

This is my first time running the thread so I hope other fledglings will alert me when I’ve got things confused or if I’ve left something out!! A busy month for us all with the holiday season looming next month…

Very simply Flylady is a zone-based cleaning system which we loosely follow. Everyone is different and has different rooms and life demands. There are five zones and at the beginning and the end of the month we usually straddle Zone 1 and zone 5.
(amend rooms to suit your house – I do the living and dining room together as it’s all one room in my house)
November
Zone 1 Hall, entrance/dining room (Fri 1 – Sat 2)
Zone 2 Kitchen (Sun 3- Sat 9)
Zone 3 Bathroom and another room (Sun 10- Sat 16)
Zone 4 Master bedroom/closet (Sun 17 – sat 23)
Zone 5 Living room (Sun 24 – Sat 30)

Pop onto the Flylady website to have a closer look but signing up for emails will probably lead to very many landing in your inbox. Also there has been some concern about securely downloading pdfs from the site. here

Flylady has an introductory scheme for newbies called Babysteps which is a light 31 day introduction to the system – dressing to shoes, shining your sink etc. What I like about Flylady is her emphasis on self care, her abhorrence of perfectionism and her adage that you’re never being behind in the system - just jump in. No need to completely clean your house before you start – phew! here

There is a morning routine and an evening routine to keep things ticking over and a weekly home cleaning hour to change bed sheets, mop, hoover, take out rubbish etc. The system isn’t brilliant for major decluttering so you might want to supplement with Kondo or another decluttering system. Flylady doesn’t want us cleaning all day so she is very keen on using a timer. Clean then stop!
In addition each day has a purpose: see the daily focus here

Monday: Weekly home cleaning hour (can be split into ten minute sections and spread over week) here
Tuesday: Plan and play (Menu planning, family event planning)
Wednesday: Anti-procrastination day
Thursday: Errand day
Friday: Clear out bags, fill car with petrol, date night
Saturday: Family fun
Sunday: Lift your spirit

Launch pad for guidance every day! launch pad

Habit of the month of November is meal planning. This is my Achilles heel! here

We have a lovely virtual naughty corner where we can all retreat – there are all manner of lovely things left there by thread members including fluffy pillows, warm blankets, tea, coffee, wine, delicious foods. This month there are plenty of candles to brighten the darker days.
There may be mention of Ned who started life as an autocorrection on the thread but who has now morphed into a virtual helper with a specialism in putting away laundry. Ned is borrowed by thread members from time to time when the going gets tough on Mount Washmore.
Most days we pop on to post our ta da list of what we’ve managed to do and have a bit of a natter.

Hope everyone has enjoyed their Saturday. We had plans for a lovely morning out but the weather got in the way. Managed to get the the shops to get DD a new pair of shoes - she point blank refused to try on any pair other than some sparkly purple boots Hmm so that’s what we ended up with. At least they are suitable for the winter, and if it means no hassle getting them on her in the morning then I’ll live with them. She’s been in such a grump all day, interspersed with periods of life stubbornness or mischief. Shouty Mum had to make an appearance at bed time and now the old mum guilt has reared its head. I’m trying to take it as a positive that she stayed hidden all day, and it worked as she immediately cuddled in and went to sleep.

Flying-wise a mountain of ironing has been demolished, two loads of laundry washed and dried, and downstairs is tidy. Upstairs there’s a fair amount of clean / ironed stuff to put away and DD’s room looks the ruins of an exploded toy factory, but shouldn’t actually take much sorting in the morning.

DH is on a stag party, so I’m having an early night with a book in peace.

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 16/11/2019 21:09

KT are the boots from Clarks? I have been eyeing up gold sparkly ones from there for my dd

Zoo i did make it out alive! His room all tidy, surfaces cleaned and floor hoovered. Clean bedding on bed and a bin bag of crap removed!

KTCluck · 16/11/2019 21:14

Yes Ive. Not actually sparkly when I’ve looked again, but they have shiny stars on them. I wanted her to get the more sensible tan ones with cream fur in but she was having none of it. I’ve always been partial to a sparkly shoe myself so why I thought DD would agree to the boring ones I have no idea Grin

LivingInLaputa · 17/11/2019 02:13

I’ve actually set a wash up for tomorrow morning. And hung wet clothes on the airer so they need less time in the dryer tomorrow.

This is a level of organisation I’ve not seen in a while. Perhaps the meds are working a tiny bit already. Hmm:o

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 17/11/2019 04:17

Well done on the organisation laputa!

Very wet here also. Grim.

Our master bedroom is not too bad luckily!

Stilllivinginazoo · 17/11/2019 05:29

I'veGrincarb free/breadless existence would give the the Herbie's.toast is lovingly called crack by dd2 as I can easily eat 6 slices andwantmore
Laputa yay at organised!and I can see having some 1-2-1 with D's would be easier /nice.it must've been very challenging trying to balance two very different set of needs.
KTgetting any boots on toddlers feet us a win.i remember getting dd1 doc Martin's(partner at time worked for them and we got heavily discounted, plus she had dodgy ankles with hyper mobility and they were super supportive/indestructible)as a preschooler.some of the designs she chose were out there but if they went on without a fight I was all for it+and they were a deffo conversational starter sometimes ...)

Morning everyone Brew

Sorry for being AWOL, I seem to be really organised at the beginning of the week then I slip into zombie mode by Thursday Grin my Mums poorly, which is a worry, struggling to get my brain to function properly! I have done some Christmas shopping whilst being in my non-functioning mode, oh and I managed 2 hours in town on our own yesterday morning (we never get time together) and got a few stocking fillers and bits crossed offf the kids wish lists. Dd2 is about done (just Elsa and Anna dolls to buy) I am waiting until Black Friday for dd1s pandora bits and ds's games to see if they have any offers on! I think I need to allocate a little bit of time every day to get Christmas sorted so I can relax through the festive season.

Expletive I haven't seen the thread regarding GCSEs, I will have a read . Good luck with the menu planning , it will make the weekdays easier I'm sure - I've heard of 'the batch lady' although I've never tried it myself, it maybe an idea to check her out and see if her methods could help you?

Chic I have a candle advent calendar from last year, I didn't use all of them, you have inspired me to light one today !!

I've i hope you're feeling better Thanks

Sc we are our worst critics aren't we . I know an hour is better than nothing at all but it's hard to remember that sometimes. My dd1 loves sewing , we don't get the machine out very often , do you have any easy project ideas? I don't know how to sew myself, I've made a children's skirt and a bow but that's about it Smile

Laputa well done on your swim and fantastic news regarding school place !!

Zoo I'm so sorry you don't have support from you 'd'p , I'm glad that dd had someone to go with her, she will understand one day Thanks

Bower well done for the book sorting ! Good luck on the craft room - I would love one of those!

Hazel I hope you are feeling better Thanks

Ive I always used Aldi nappies during the day , then pampers at night because they tended to stay dry longer, only using them at night kept the cost down!

Kt how did you get on with the home blessing ?

Waves to too and anyone else that I've missed !

My whole house needs attention - I'm not sure where to start Sad football and dance exams today so time will be limited Confused,

Exp1etiveDeLighted · 17/11/2019 09:08

Diet coke for me please, I went to an event yesterday and they didn't have any Sad.

Starting to get a bit organised for Christmas here too, I ordered the turkey and veg this week (Riverford, they deliver free on Christmas Eve). Got the refillable advent calendar and last years leftover cards out of the loft while putting the Hallowe'en stuff back up, also got our winter duvet out. Book panto is on today's list.

Tidy - I'll have a look at the batch lady thing, thanks. Unfortunately I have a family of fussy eaters (one DC with ASD who for example won't eat any element of a roast dinner) however things are gradually improving and both are quite keen on cooking now. I did the weekly food shop with planning yesterday.

SC - guest who may or may not come are infuriating.

Laputa - great news about school. I'd be inclined to start ASAP too.

Zoo - puppy sounds adorable, such a lovely image of him going out for his walk and being excited. We have been doing college visits too, but DS really wants to stay at his school 6th form so that is now the plan. I have submitted all this to the council as he has an EHCP and had verbal agreement, just need to get it in writing.

Chic DS tells me there was a shock high score on Strictly last night and that I need to catch up.

Right, I need to get going. Just been having a cuppa and chat with DH in bed as we have hardly seen each other all week. To do - strip bed and wash bedding, change duvet, ironing, dinner prep for tonight as we ate all out at sports in the afternoon. Will also count Christmas cards and see if we need to buy any.

QueenOfOversharing · 17/11/2019 14:16

Missed a few days... Sad but today I've emptied dishwasher & filled it again; cleared rubbish off countertops into bin bag. I'm planning moving round tv in living room (eyesight so bad & it's so far away, I can't read anything like texts on programs Confused), which will involve moving a few bits & sweeping the floor.

I'm hoping to get this done.

Son is going to wipe down countertops & hob.

Hopefully!!

Tidyhomewannabe · 17/11/2019 15:34

Tada

Ds football
Dd1 dance exams (running an hour late, which meant I was sat there for nearly 2 hours because dd likes to be super early for things !)
Darks wash
Whites wash in

Going to pop some clothes away , then iron uniforms , we're having pizza for tea so no time needed for cooking Grin

LivingInLaputa · 17/11/2019 15:59

Oops, bath mat was left stuck down too long and it’s a bit manky underneath now. How to clean?

I managed to remember to set up the direct debit I needed to, and found my phone which I lost four days ago! Played piano a bit too. Including a bit of Christmas music :o

DH out to a meeting soon but he got pizzas I can stick in the oven so that’s good. No idea how long the meeting is.

Welcome back queen!

Ghoulette1740 · 17/11/2019 16:37

Crikey were all catching up.this weekend. Endless soccer and out of hours work stuff but, with the exception of Mount Washmore, the house is getting into some order. I have just received ashes the kitchen floor but I've given up on hoovering cause it's just too dark now Grin

I have been clearing piles all day. Office needs a good tidy but DH will iron in there while I attend to paperwork. Kitchen now presentable. Packed DH off for bath, Ds is practising his drumming on my cushions.

OP posts:
Ghoulette1740 · 17/11/2019 16:42

Grin I meant I have just washed the kitchen floor. What weird autocorrect subs!

OP posts:
IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 17/11/2019 17:38

I was wondering who the ashes were! (Zoos manchild maybe)

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 17/11/2019 18:00

Ok. Sitting for 5 (maybe 2) ....

I have had a really crappy day. No one has been cooperative and just feel like i been chasing my arse all day Sad

The baby has barely slept, the toddler is stubborn as anything, 6 year old an emotional wreck and the other two are taking turns at having preteen 'i hate my life' / 'its not fair' strops.

LivingInLaputa · 17/11/2019 18:23

Oh good call on the bicarb, got some somewhere

That’s a crappy day ive :(

Pepsi Max for me cheers ghoul :o

So I found my phone which I lost during the week Blush it had fallen into the sofa frame Blush and found a voicemail on it from the local autism therapy place, which is one of the steps we need to complete in order for DS to be seen by CAMHS. Apparently they are fab too. So that’s another phonecall for Monday.

Finding my phone also means I can now log into HMRC and sort out my savings. Yay.

Laundry plodding along too. Soooo much to put away, it’s quite obscene. There are six of us though I suppose!

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 17/11/2019 18:28

Omg laputa i feel you on the washing front, since the baby appeared i am drowning in it

Tidyhomewannabe · 17/11/2019 19:11

Ive well done for surviving the dayFlowers

Laputa yay for finding your phone!!

Tada

Whites wash in dryer
Tea
30 mins on tackling mountain of clothes piled in my bedroom aka dumping ground
Hoovered the little bit of floor that was uncovered!
Clothes sorted for tomorrow, just need to iron
Clothes sorted for tomorrow nights clubs
Spag Bol taken out of the freezer ready for tomorrow's tea

To do
Kids to bed
General tidy of toys
Ironing

Bowerbird5 · 17/11/2019 20:26

HHMM I can remember looking at said mountain of washing and small baby and wonder how one tiny infant can create so much washing.

Power of three

Made my bed.
Cooked tea.
Washed up.

That is it. I went to church. Home for lunch and then out again for choir.

I di find the stamps I was wanting for my Christmas cards. So tomorrow I am not doing boudoir but starting on room of doom and when I have done one hour of removing stuff and one hour of sorting it I can then have a snack and in the afternoon I can make cards. I also have at least on load of washing to do. If I can get my cards made this week then addressed and stamps on and overseas ones posted it will be a great achievement.

I am feeling a lot better. Thank you for the support given during my distraught feelings. I love choir I always feel so much better afterwards
We sang some lovely pieces today and only have one to polish the rest are in pretty good shape. The bases need to cheer up though. They were singing a happy song today and you would have thought they were at a funeral.

IVEgotthesparklersBIATCH · 17/11/2019 20:47

3 year old ds tried to climb said mountain earlier.....he failed
