Autumn leaves and a clean sweep: it's the October Fledgling Fly thread (2019)

Slowchirp · 30/09/2019 13:27

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes, and energy-levels!

Please note that, athough Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now, or sign up to the (many and frequent) e-mails (but your choice as some fledglings find the latter helpful).

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cakeand Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows (but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here and here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here and here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Hello! I'm a bit out of the loop, are some people still on half term?
SC glad you have had some r & r sounds much needed Smile

We were back to school today and tbh the dc have been pretty grumpy. Dd has had a headache and ds has just been complaining about the cold a lot!

Exciting news is dh has officially graduated and got his degree, hooray!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/10/2019 19:22

Kids dinner-fishcakes,cauli,carrots and a pear

Mine and dd2-roasted cumin and paprika chickpeas, sweet potato wedges, squash, peppers, onions and green beans.just about dig in!(found some naice tolls to have with it.yum yum)

LivingInLaputa · 28/10/2019 20:30

Yay well done! Fantastic mr fox 😁❤️

Today I did bugger all, except finish my therapy write up from last week and, er, write a poem?! Haven’t done that in years

ChicCauldron · 28/10/2019 20:43

Well done Mr Foxes! Yes, half-term here all week although DD was off Thurs/Fri last week as well.

Some laundry and flying done today, however have just got box of Halloween decs down from loft so pandemonium will commence shortly (along with a hunt for batteries in our battery box).

Ghoulette1740 · 28/10/2019 20:48

Sounds good Laputa!

Busy week in work as in everyday. 🍒Waves

Ghoulette1740 · 28/10/2019 20:49

Well done Mr Foxes 👨‍🎓

Tidyhomewannabe · 28/10/2019 21:18

Fantastic well done Mr foxes! Dd1 broke up this week but ds&dd2 we're off last week too.

Ta da
All washing dried
Dining room tidied & floor sorted
Tea
'Encouraged' to dc to tidy their toys away in the playroom
Dd1 at dance

I think I'll be calling it a night soon, dd2 is still climbing into our bed , even though I sleep fairly well with her in with us, I don't think I go into a deep sleep so I always wake up a bit groggy and ready for bed by 930/10 Grin

foxessocks · 28/10/2019 22:08

Aw thanks all, fantastic Mr fox made me chuckle!

This explains why it was quieter than I expected when we went away for a few days last week🤔

PsychoSmirk · 28/10/2019 22:26

Evening all!

So sorry (again) everyone, left very "me me" post and then didn't catch up with everyone's news as intended. Received some rather extraordinary family news today and I don't know whether to be happy or worried. So I've been a bit preoccupied and am still tired I think because I didn't get much Flying done either and it was a huge effort just to do the bins!

Looks like all of you fledglings have been very busy though - well done - Star Star Star - hope I haven't missed anything important!
Promise to catch up tomorrow!

🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂 🍂🍂

Baby step no. 29 for Tues 29th is here.

And launch pad link is here.

🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂🍂

G'night all!

PsychoSmirk · 28/10/2019 22:28

Gosh have just seen the great news about MrFox many many congratulations to him - and to you Foxes for all that behind-the-scenes support Star Star

PsychoSmirk · 28/10/2019 22:32

And thanks Tidy and Foxes (and Zoo as previously mentioned) for kind words ... trouble is I had my holiday a couple of weeks back ... although it wasn't really a holiday because of the building work - but I feel as though I shouldn't need another ifyswim and there is so much to do here! I must confess I can't quite face chores atm though! Sorry - thread leading not very inspirational I'm afraid - heigh ho!

LivingInLaputa · 29/10/2019 00:33

Tidyhomewannabe · 29/10/2019 07:48

Sc you've had a hard few weeks whether you had the holiday previously or not, it's ok to feel tired, look after yourself I'm sure you'll be back to it in no time Thanks hope you can figure out whether family news is something to be happy for or worried.

Happy birthday lilzoo, any birthday celebrations planned ?

Brew good morning ghoul Halloween Grin and everyone else.

I HAD A FULL NIGHTS SLEEP! No children in my bed Grin now cuddling my morning coffee with a smile on my face . No plans again today , I'm just hoping the kids get better so we can get up to mums . Possibly tackle the playroom again, I'm so close to fully finishing the room , but I'm stuck at how to store dd2s dolls and accessories, they're so bulky. Then need to start taking things to charity shop / selling . ......maybe I'll aim to do at least 1 trip to the charity shop !today !

ChicCauldron · 29/10/2019 08:04

Yay for a full night's sleep Tidy and a very happy birthday to your DD Zoo Cake

We have an activity booked for this morning so will get washed and dressed ready for that and be back by about lunchtime hopefully. Will put one load of laundry in before we go.

Bowerbird5 · 29/10/2019 08:34

Good morning. Back home.

Struggling to keep awake. Sore eyes and feeling dopey due to meds.
I lost yesterday’s post. Back home. DH had a meal out on Sunday with the three boys planned so relieved I didn’t have to cook. It was for his Friday b’day and retirement. Unusual to get them all off at the same time. It was a lovely evening though I was tired.
My back and neck playing up at weekend and there was a lot of standing and walking to do. It was enjoyable and good for my mental health. We stayed at DS2’s house for the night and came back about 11 yesterday because of the cat. DH went shopping but I couldn’t be bothered as very 💤 tired. Need to get up and do some flying today if I can. Have GP app. Later.

Congratulations Mr 🦊 great news.

SC I don’t know how you do it with all the visitors you have.

Laputa aw Caglitini has grown. Can’t believe she is two. She is so cute you want to hug her. Love the animals you bought her.

Waves to everyone else. Need to go and catch up with other posts. Then get up. My legs 😖 ache.

Bowerbird5 · 29/10/2019 08:50

Caught up now. So yes to The Accident it looks like it is going to be good.

Yes there were shrimp pickers that lost their lives in Morecambe Bay. It sounded awful and I had two arty friends that lived down that way. One over looking the bay. She said it was just awful. I don’t know if the people were forced to be picking or were just out themselves but it is tidal and they were cut off as the tide came back in. People often don’t heed tidal warnings. We lived on the coast in Scotland and it was tidal there two and took people by surprise sometimes. A couple of people lost their lives up there too. Very sad.

Right I need to jump up and get sorted.

PsychoSmirk · 29/10/2019 12:01

Good afternoon! Hope everyone is surviving enjoying half term!

Big whinger in chief here! Grin Thanks so much for yet more kind words and emoticons Halloween Smile. Feel much cheerier having read/seen them! Halloween Smile

[Sorry] Feel wretched (again) today - well I did 'til I came on here Halloween Grin Didn't sleep (worrying all night). Miss dh as he has seemingly been away forever. Miss the furries. All my joints and bones ache. Right wrist hurts so much I can hardly turn key in lock to open front door to (constant) couriers. Have incipient uti I think. Headache. Shaky and starving but when I eat I have stomach pain. And feel really miserable too. Wtf is wrong with me? Feel crap.

Bowerbird5 · 29/10/2019 13:42

zoo Happy Birthday to Lil'zoo.Cake

OOOOHH there is a Snooty Fox not too far from us. Hope you feel better soon. I wouldn't worry about flying have a rest. Resting today have app.at GP tonight.

Had some good news this morning.

TooStressyTooScary · 29/10/2019 14:12

YY Bower, the printers seem to break constantly. Managed to get DH to sort it and it is working now, for now at least. Glad you got some good news Smile.

SC Smile.

Yes we have half term this week too. Dentists this afternoon for the kids. Really not looking forward to it. Had a fun morning at an activity with a friend so the girls are having some screen time while I do a quick house catch up but we will need to leave in half an hour or so.

Happy birthday lilzoo Smile.

Massive congratulations to your DH foxes. And to you for helping him through it. Must be a huge relief.
