Autumn leaves and a clean sweep: it's the October Fledgling Fly thread (2019)

Slowchirp · 30/09/2019 13:27

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes, and energy-levels!

Please note that, athough Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now, or sign up to the (many and frequent) e-mails (but your choice as some fledglings find the latter helpful).

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cakeand Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows (but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here and here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here and here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Morning all. At activity with DD2. DH is home with DD1 who has decided to tidy her room Shock. So far this has translated to getting all her clothes out. To be fair we did need to get the winter clothes out and out summer away. Will see what it looks like when we get back Confused.

Wishing you luck for the weeks ahead Laputa. It’s difficult when everything happens at once Brew.

Still fighting off the germs today, we don't have anything booked for today so may spend the day at home sorting stuff out.

Have loaded and run dishwasher this morning, need to empty it now and wash the stuff that doesn't go into it. DD still in pyjamas, I am dressed because I went out to do the bins earlier Halloween Grin

Definitely getting colder! Also planning for tomorrow when we do have something booked because we have to travel and with all the rain recently, not all car parks are open (flooding, but not near us). In fact a few of the usual halloween events are struggling with parking near us due to mud - a lot of them have closed over the weekend due to all the water!

Catch you later

Tidyhomewannabe · 28/10/2019 10:05

Hope you feel better soon chic!

Ta da
Me and ds are showered and ready
Breakfast
Dd2 is munching on her second breakfast, once she's done I'll pop her in the bath
Washer on

I've came downstairs to find that the lovely people working for virgin media have completely blocked my driveway Angry pile of concrete and now a pile of dirt , I honestly don't mind them doing their job, but a knock on the door to ask if I need my car today (which I do !) would've been nice ! I have no clue how I'm going to pick dd1 up from her friends house - thank goodness we didn't have anything urgent planned for today !! I'm going to wait until I get dd2 ready and see if they've cleared it because I really don't like going out and causing a fuss.

I got a lot more of the playroom done over the weekend so the end is in sight !! Maybe I'll get it finished today depending on how the kids are - it feels like the task has dragged on for ages !

PsychoSmirk · 28/10/2019 10:34

Sorry to have been awol from thread apart from links - hope everyone ok - going to catch up asap.

I am completely on my own now (dd and aunt have flown off to join dh , other visitor has gone back to uk and furries are with trainer/dog sitter for four days. I would have liked to join everyone on a jolly in US but flextension only proposed this morning and not formally agreed yet so thought it prudent to stay and sort dossier before 31st just in case, plus overseeing building work at wreck2 - where there has been a burglary of trailer and building materials Sad (although they've got the trailer back) - and there are the usual office tasks to be done plus office cleaner is away for three weeks possibly a month owing to personal crisis.

And despite the peace being lovely, I am not exactly luxuriating in solitude because entire house is - predictably - a total tip and shambles after last fortnight. Still many piles of laundry to attack, kitchen and bathroom(s) need thorough scrub, every single room needs tidying and cleaning involving endless climbing of stairs and endless sorting of boxes as usual.

I felt exhausted on Sat night after everyone had left and only had the energy for a quick tidy up + ping supper in microwave + Strictly. And yesterday I spent pretty much under the duvet eating toast and slept until the late hour of 8.30 am this morning which was a very welcome lie-in (no dogs!). I know this probably sounds very indulgent to those of you with babies/young dc/dc with sn who don't have a chance to rest and I know that I am very very lucky to be able to tune out for a day!

Tbh I felt very tired after combo of guests + trying to sort dossier; both of which were kind of stressful! Caught up with minutes of UK embassy meeting for expats and they know less than we do! And they have now managed to offend the Flemish community by sticking up a huge poster saying "prepare for Brexit" written in French, in a Dutch speaking area, causing huge offence with seemingly no knowledge of local tensions or sensibilities. And these are the people we are meant to be relying on for advice! Angry

Back to Flying ....have so far this morning:
looked at e-mails
had a bath and washed hair
manicure and pedicure
eyebrows
stacked dw
put two loads of washing on
listened to Sky news about flextension
sorted dh shirts for laundry to take away
collected Christmas cards and advent calendars from P O and bought bread from bakery on way home

Lovely sunny day here Smile

Now going to catch up with thread and do more tidying! Waves to everyone! BBL!

Stilllivinginazoo · 28/10/2019 11:31
