Autumn leaves and a clean sweep: it's the October Fledgling Fly thread (2019)

Slowchirp · 30/09/2019 13:27

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes, and energy-levels!

Please note that, athough Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now, or sign up to the (many and frequent) e-mails (but your choice as some fledglings find the latter helpful).

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cakeand Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows (but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here and here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here and here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Oops - For Saturday 26th - sorry!

LivingInLaputa · 25/10/2019 21:11

Hello! I’m still around sort of.

It was Cagletini’s second birthday today. We did nothing, we are both just too exhausted. Here she is (unclothed as usual Hmm) with the animals I’d collected second hand for her present :)

Main ta da from recently is we put the school application in for DD1. Could hear in as little as ten days. Yikes.

Ghoulette1740 · 25/10/2019 21:17

They just have a live feed of daily 10am Mass and three Sunday Masses and the live cam is on 24/7. I've no idea why SC 😆. Tis a lovely church. I often look in for a quiet moment at 11pm when it's darkish with candles but peaceful. I keep expecting to see burglars with swag bags when the place is empty at night.

Husband is away at a conference on Brexit. No greater clarity on the issue from Political Scientists apparently. Anyway I think I miss him and I'm getting maudlin particularly about home. The place I live now is perfectly nice though. What I need to do is a big load of ironing tomorrow to keep busy

Ghoulette1740 · 25/10/2019 21:17

God look at the size of Cagletini!

Ghoulette1740 · 25/10/2019 21:23

TooStressyTooScary · 25/10/2019 21:40

Me!!! I need Ned.

ChicCauldron · 25/10/2019 22:09

Cagletini seems to have all the eyelashes in your family Laputa, gorgeous - happy birthday to her! Cake

Is it time for a glass of Wine yet? I hope Ned is earning his keep, haven't seen him for ages and my ironing is piling up Halloween Angry

PsychoSmirk · 25/10/2019 22:17

Happy Birthday to Cagletini! Can't believe she is two already! She is gorgeous Laputa! I love her curly hair!

And thank you so much for that link Ghoulette - much appreciated - I shall definitely watch! Sorry you are maudlin though Sad. Funnily enough my DH is away attending two conferences talking about Brexit to Americans - not at all easy when the situation is changing all the time!

I had to work today so not much flying achieved except more laundry, visit to chemist, visit to school, and made two different suppers and served and cleared up.

PsychoSmirk · 25/10/2019 22:18

Laputa fingers crossed for school application btw!

ExpletiveDEVILighted · 25/10/2019 23:00

I'm struggling to keep up with both the thread and the Flying this week . But I have enjoyed reading all your chat tonight so I thought I'd at least post to say that. Night all.

Tidyhomewannabe · 26/10/2019 06:36

Thanks I've ,I will invest in one of those , it isn't something I've used before, normally I just pop vicks on chest and soles of feet but the plug in sounds a great ideaHalloween Smile

Tidyhomewannabe · 26/10/2019 06:58

Happy belated birthday cagletini! She looks really pleased with her toys laputa !

Waves good morning to everyone and passes Brew to those who need it.

Ds started laughing and giggling last night so I'm guessing he's over the worst, slept all night in his own bed.....dd2's turn to climb in last night, she's a little snuggler so kept me nice and warm . I'm up earlier than I have been all week, feeling better than yesterday again, I'm really sad that we can't go and visit my mum for the week as planned though, it's a horrid feeling of knowing that there's a chance that we may not be able to arrange another week all together with her because no one knows whether she will deteriorate quickly. Dd1 breaks up in the middle of December for a week, I'm very tempted to pull the younger 2 out of school for that week if mum is still well so they get some quality time with her , they are in nursery and year 4 so there's no sats this year, hopefully the school will agree it's a valid reason to take time off.

I haven't really got a plan today , dd1 is at dancing this morning then at a sleepover later, oh is at work so it's just me, ds and dd2. If they're feeling ok, I could do with catching up on washing and venturing back into the playroom.

Tidyhomewannabe · 26/10/2019 07:06

Ghoulette thankyou for the link , I never knew something like that existed. Our relatives in Ireland had masses said regularly for my mum, it'll be lovely if we can listen to one of them .

IVEgotthePUMPKINS · 26/10/2019 08:12

The plug in is great tidy! I am always recommending it to people and we are always stocked up with the refills! I like it for me as much as the dc Grin

Slept in my (minimal) makeup and my eyes are so fucking itchy Sad

Ghoulette1740 · 26/10/2019 10:35

Unfortunately Tidy, it's only a limited range of churches that are on that website. Hopefully the one you want will be there. I get waves of nostalgia looking at it! Better this morning SC Certainly coffee is helping.

Ghoulette1740 · 26/10/2019 10:39

I've I don't know if you can take antihistamine orally just now but if not perhaps tea bags over the eyes might help. Or anti histamine eye drops

Stilllivinginazoo · 26/10/2019 16:09

I've cold milk(odd as it sounds) sometimes works..

Ghoulette1740 · 26/10/2019 20:13

Sounds like a good day zoo.

I thoroughly cleaned the main bedroom but have run out of time to do the small ensuite so in the spirit of Flylady's anti-perfectionism, I'm going to leave it.

Zone 5 for part of this week. I'll set up a new thread on 31 October for November. House clearly needs a proper dust so I'm doing a deep clean in each zone as I go along.

PsychoSmirk · 26/10/2019 20:29

Evening all! Catch up in the morning!
