Autumn leaves and a clean sweep: it's the October Fledgling Fly thread (2019)

Slowchirp · 30/09/2019 13:27

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes, and energy-levels!

Please note that, athough Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now, or sign up to the (many and frequent) e-mails (but your choice as some fledglings find the latter helpful).

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cakeand Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows (but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here and here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here and here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Sorry to have been AWOL, I have been lurking on my phone but not finding much time to post. It is hammering it down here, torrential rain. Off to yoga in hlaf an hour, then I have a dilemma, come home (20 mins drive) or stay put for a couple of hours (coffee shop or similar) until going to a meeting at DS's school which is fairly close to the yoga class mid afternoon. Coffee shop is tempting, going to stick crochet in my car.

Tada!

Tabletted cat - they must taste nice as she is taking them from my fingers as if they were Dreamies (usually I have to put her in a headlock).
Made big pot of tea
DCs despatched to school
Cleaned bathroom inc. bleached grout over bath
Cleared a couple of hotpsots
Opened yesterdays mail and shredded most of it.
Much chat via Whatsapp with friends about 6th form options (yikes!)

ChicCroissant · 11/10/2019 09:34

Morning, a bit dull and grey here today. I'll pop some scones in the naughty corner from my DD's food tech class, you know they don't keep well and they are very nice even better with cream and jam I am looking forward to having one later this morning.

Loving the satellite image of the hedge, Bower Grin

Need to crack on with tidying, laundry and menu planning for next week. Need to get organised, this week has been a bit hit and miss - well, we haven't actually missed anything but it could have been more relaxed! Catch you later!

LivingInLaputa · 11/10/2019 13:04

Afternoon fledglings. It’s been a ridiculous few days here.

Did find out about DD1 though, after her issues with periods they did agree to blood tests and It turns out she is mega anaemic. Also thyroid is “borderline” but they aren’t concerned about that as it can fluctuate with hormones, they will retest everything in three months.

Trying to take a mental health day... can I take a week or so?

ChicCroissant · 11/10/2019 13:09

Take as much time as you need Laputa, the longer the better IMO.

Hope your DD has got some iron to take and feels better soon, she must be shattered.

Have been folding dry laundry this morning, never a fun task. YouTube does improve it, though.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/10/2019 16:54

Laputa I sympathize totally with your DD.i have a tendancy to very aneamic and it's absolutely rubbish and leaves me drained.hope she's on meds and picks up soon.take as much time out as you needFlowers

I was so busy yesterday and we had internet issues I never got chance to" tada"
DS was ver young brave at orthodontist.his bottom teeth sit over top ones when he brings them together and we are told if his jaw doesn't grow and adjust he may need surgery in later teens.jn meanwhile it's watch and wait.had x-ray as lots baby teeth still(he's nearly14) has two teeth missing in bug set, others are there so he's been told to start wiggling!!we will need a brace at some point in top set as he has one virtually in roof of his mouth!!we now wait a year before returning to see how his jaw is developing as if they rush in and do anything now it could have to be redone once he's stopped growing...
Then went did some shopping
Then he had app at garden centre with OT.he got very distressed and overwhelmed to point he couldn't pay for a cactus he desperately wanted and she said you hold it or the money and I help you if you don't get it.he cry on way home he never got itSad
Work continues decluttering and sifting thru stuff

IVEgottheDECAF · 12/10/2019 08:52

Morning all

Super sleepy here 😴

Have been attempting to make start on uni work but struggling for time when there is quiet! Got a bit done but must do more. Baby ds was quite unsettled yesterday so that didnt help!

Have also been working through sorting my own clothes and putting lots in charity bags this past couple days. Maternity wear, anything i dont think i will fit in again, anything really old. I have bought a few new bits for myself as fed up of looking a tramp Blush Im now washing alot of stuff that has been at the bottom of a drawer/basket for a year and smells a bit musty. Still have few things to sort also have some things i put away when i was pregnant and now cannot find ...

Also sorted through the dcs pjs as obv its not shorts weather now and big three were all pleading pj poverty. Dd was actually found to have EIGHT pairs of long sleeve/leg pjs which all fit. Ds1 and 2 only had couple pairs each so have had couple pairs new.

Also chucked some games (about 5) which were missing pieces and i have kept since before we moved (2+ years) to see if the pieces turn up. I am now guessing they never will and the games are just taking up space.

IVEgottheDECAF · 12/10/2019 08:52

Ta da

Wash on
Dryer on

Slowchirp · 12/10/2019 09:59

Good morning peeps! Smile Hope everyone Flying high! Or a bit anyway... .

Full steam ahead here since dawn with Manitoo (sp?) giant tractors and the bulb guy and the fosse septique guy and the barn door guy. Have just made them all coffee (and have converted one to tea Grin).

Remembered to have breakfast early because once they start there is no time to eat really (hard to explain).

Blimey I've you are a wonderwoman! How you manage to declutter with a newborn I have no idea! No wonder you are finding it hard to find quiet time in which to study. Bon courage et bonne chance Brew

Ta da (for yesterday which I didn't have time to post):
brought in wood
picked last of apples and blackberries
cleared shoes and boots from under coat rack and hovered
moved all shoes elsewhere
cleaned saddle and bridle
washed dog rugs and dog bed covers
stripped sofa of cover
dusted and hovered sitting room again and arranged nicely
talked to builder about wierdy lav at back
made thousands of cups of tea and coffee
discussed barn doors with builder
met with new cleaning lady (thanks to kind neighbour I have found a new one, yay - when I say a new one, the old one never really started)
finished tidying and hoovering bedroom
beat the rugs
hovered office bedroom
hovered up any remaining cobwebs with long hoover tool thing all over house
visited dhorse and fed him loads of treats, he is not completely sound but weight-bearing on that leg now Smile
cleaned two lavatories to within an inch of their life
organised all cleaning tools
made bread in machine
went for winter walk and saw an amazing selection of mushrooms! Smile don't know how to transfer photo from phone to laptop but when I work it out I will post!

Amazing thing: the builder found a hedgehog hibernating in the roof ... yes... in the roof ... he took a photo because I'm too wimpish to climb ladder). I didn't even know they could climb! And our large resident hare survived the hunt! Yippee! Now I am among farmers (nods knowingly while really incredibly ignorant still) I understand why they need to hunt - four hares in your field could literally eat your minimal profits for the year - but equally I am incredibly relieved he has survived.

Right, onwards and upwards ... I am off to visit a neighbour and view her new hens ... I am beginning to think I am living in an episode of the Archers - and all only one hour from a capital city door to door (one of the benefits of living in a small country I guess!) Grin

Allons- y! Have a good day everyone!

Oh that went well... Confused

Sorry you can find baby-step 13 for Sun 13 th under "Getting Started" on Flylady home page.

And if any tech savvie person knows how to copy and paste two links from a second website on to first website (Mnsnet) without the first tab closing and re-opening while you are doing it ...thus losing first link ...on an Android tablet ...please let me know.

I'm sure I used to know how to do it ... . Expletive ...anyone?

And why are there sloths everywhere when I want to post autumn leaves? OK the fact that I have had a glass or two earlier this evening [hic] - am mourning my temporary separation from d🐎 who stood at the gate watching us drive off ok he probably wanted more carrots may have something to do with it... .

I feel old seeing dd2 glam up to go out!she had a great time last night with friends.they went to pizza hut and got a free pizza as first one "was burnt"< photo evidence said crust was slightly darker brown not black or anything>but teen girls aren't going to refuse an extra for free!Grinthis was followed by her first trip to Starbucks..her reflux wasn't impressed by time she got in but she was so happy it was wonderful to see her upbeat.been a loooong time."d"p sat moaning how long she was being as wanted to go back to bed.i took perverse enjoyment from thatGrinin the end she was out 6-10(met friends 630,pick up 930)

It's tiddling down here and barely light.lil zoo came to find me at 7 and snuggled for 20 minutes and then we ate ginger oatcakesshe's now doing homework
Whilst I was busy sorting some internet banking

Guess I should make a start on other chores!

To do
More decluttering of kitchen and front room-both are at a tidier point than I ever remember in this house, helped by fact the zoolets are now older and have less "stuff"
