Autumn leaves and a clean sweep: it's the October Fledgling Fly thread (2019)

Slowchirp · 30/09/2019 13:27

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes, and energy-levels!

Please note that, athough Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now, or sign up to the (many and frequent) e-mails (but your choice as some fledglings find the latter helpful).

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cakeand Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows (but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here and here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here and here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Zoo that's an amazing list considering you've had little sleep!

Sc the previous owners here stuck the shower screen on with silicone! It only had 1 screw in !! Needless to say it fell off, luckily no one was in the bath when it happened!!

Ta da
School run
Work
Lunch

I haven't even made the beds yet ... I'm sitting and playing with dd2 for a little while then I'll set a 15 min timer and get some bits done before picking ds up.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/10/2019 13:04

Chic lil zoo failed bring me her list for cookery so I put note in her planner as such and she has to face consequences on that(was ment to be scones I think,so I had most of ingredients, but they're expected to take everything weighed if possible)

Pull out 3sear sofa(recliner, bloody heavy and D's much use as chocolate fireguard)
Move blanket box(full games)
Wipe behind as probe mould down there.the laminate edging has gone all big and dampSad
Move karaoke box lil zoo had last Xmas and never touched upstairs,in hope her and dd2 might give it a go there
Clear and Fold up little table that has basically held crap for many months as it was an available surfaceBlush
Wipe blanket box
Get rid of all cobwebs hammocking that side of chimney breast
Clean photo on wall(also had cobwebs along the top)
Clean behind big sofa
Round past kitchen door,I stuck with stuff stacked there-no way "d"p will take backpack full documents regard late ma- death cert, bank statements etc,tax forms etc.ive no idea how long to keep them either...
Stacked other stuff on top(a bookcase obscures it from view)
Empty bookcase
Wipe and restack a the DVDs and books(2huge shelves if each)
Clean out med box on top, putting back ibuprofen etc that's been taken out and left on shelves

Lunch

Now under dining table sorting stuff stacked at back where the two chairs are against a wall and rarely move they tend get stuff stacked on/under them!

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/10/2019 13:05

Ps all dvds were opened and checked, stray discs located and put back in..

Bowerbird5 · 09/10/2019 16:19

zoo whooo! You have been busy.

Love the "cobwebs hammocking that side of the chimney breast." It was like that in the summer house.

In Scotland it is 7 years zoo. Stick them in his car last minute. He lives on his own(I presume) and you live with the kids but you have his stuff. Nope I wouldn't be on with that. Tell him you have enough crap to deal with without his. If he doesn't take get a large box, put it in and decorate with Christmas paper put it in his car not to be opened until the 25th Dec. Job done! Grin

Been to local town to pick up some paperwork.
Had coffee
checked out about small stove re project.
Supermarket shopping in that previously said supermarket. Purchased new book by Rebecca Tope.

Dining room table has gathered loads more stuff on it thanks DH. Please send Ned around later as there is a pile of ironing. Actually I would rather do ironing than this paperwork.
Fed cat
Writing up report stuff. Having a break as it is stressing me out. Bloody paperwork anti procrastination.

Stilllivinginazoo · 09/10/2019 17:14

bower if only it was that simple

Wiped dining table chairs, clearing any stuff as went from back two
Cleared under table, stacking piles for different rooms, recycling and bin
Pulled out sofa under window and cleaned behind
Pulled out computer table and tidy boxes under that, tidy thru resources trying to build for HE (dd2 old schoolbooks etc)

Completed four loads washing, one on airers, two in drier, one on mini pegs(socks and pants)
Towels now in wash as realised only a couple left..

Also did flying dash round my room gathering up stuff that's not mine, laundry that's clean but not mine redeposit to owners drawers, dust available surfaces

To do
Computer table top
Few more bits down corner where blanket box is needs sorting

Tea tonight- fish fingers, mash, broccoli and carrots(easy tea as I'm start feel weary)
Dd2 and I have veggie sausages, red pesto on pasta with smidge of cheese, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower

Slowchirp · 09/10/2019 21:47

Hi all, hope everyone ok

LivingInLaputa · 09/10/2019 21:49

Managed to achieve stuff today. Yay. Phoned CMHT and the psych is actually off sick (not long term thankfully). So that’s delayed stuff.

We then had the advisor person round again which was a huge help, I feel a lot less daunted and she’s helping sort out some other stuff.

Emailed therapist to update her and had my first trip to the pub alone for a while, as I’ve not been well enough, where I sat and did more DLA stuff and updated my therapy diary.

Just need to find the time to do my Inktober drawing later.

(Today’s word is “swing” - the immature side of me was tempted to draw a bowl of keys 😳🙈😂)

LivingInLaputa · 09/10/2019 21:49

Oh my gosh sc :( poor horse

Laputa Grin that subject is quite daunting for a drawing! Especially when Fragonard has the subject rather sewn up ... Grin Great that you are feeling a bit better today and advisor was good support. Don't worry, dhorse is still eating very well indeed Grin

Zoo I hope ds was ok at orthodontist

OP posts:
Lisette1940 · 09/10/2019 22:11

Laputa!

Poor horse SC. And am most concerned about you having to wear hi-viz so as not to wind up shot.

I think I'm a bit sheltered here Grin

Stilllivinginazoo · 10/10/2019 04:06

LaputaGrinat keys.would they be in a bowl?
SC your poor baby.hoe farrier can fix him up and eek at being hi Vis on the lawn!!
Orthodontist today with D's.we pop in there yesterday to at least familiarise himself with the building.its a gorgeous house(Victorian/Edwardian?)facing onto what used to be a racecourse (park now)an architect uses ground floor which had fabulous tiled entrance hall.dentist had upstairs(big sash windows, lots natural light)anyways we stick head in waiting room then head down to find we cannot get out as need exit code!back up we went I explained to reception why we were there and she kindly offer to show D's round.orthodontist wasn't in but we saw his room, xray room then she gave us exit code and off we went.she was so nice.ds grumbled how hot it was in there so had been told wear thick fluffy jumper or coat to get there with just t shirt under as he hates being hot

Tidyhomewannabe · 10/10/2019 07:00

Good morning everyone BrewCake for those that need it!

Yesterday tada
All clothes folded and in bedrooms (still need putting away)
another 2 boxes in the dining room sorted - actually have a little space in that room now!!

I need to catch up on the thread, yesterday was busy busy.

Today I would like to get the final box in the dining room sorted , it isn't necessarily paperwork, but it is stationary stuff. Also to catch up on clothes putting away. First, I'll be going out for breakfast with a friend - I have never been out for breakfast before without children so I am really looking forward to it !

Lisette1940 · 10/10/2019 08:14

Enjoy breakfast Tidy! Apparently it's a thing in Australia to meet friends for breakfast. I've never done it myself and without kids is a real treat.

I'm not in work today so hoping for a successful house day with lots of ta das.

Lisette1940 · 10/10/2019 08:15

Like the sound of that house zoo. How kind of the person to show you around.

Slowchirp · 10/10/2019 09:15

Morning all! Cold but with beautiful sunshine here!

Gosh meeting a friend for breakfast sounds very swanky indeed Tidy, I hope Buck's Fizz is on the menu Grin

Zoo I'm with your ds on hating being hot! How lovely of that receptionist and what a great ma you are to go on a recce with him. Hopefully that will make all the difference to your ds when it comes to the real visit. I was gibbering wreck before my op (huge fear of hospitals - had panic attack in underground car park) and all my worries evaporated when I had pre-op meeting with a fabulous anaesthetist who said in perfect English not to worry, she would answer all my questions, and that she was going to be "my guardian angel" on the day and after that, I had hardly any fears at all! What a difference one lovely person can make eh?

Happy Flying today Lisette!

Thanks for v kind words about dhorse everyone. Much appreciated! A hoof abscess is just like a pulsating pimple in a human really. Very painful until they pop or are popped! They are very common but some worse than others. They often develop at this time of year, especially after a very hot summer, during which hooves crack and dry out (dhorse is shoeless atm because we are not doing any road work) allowing the autumn mud in once the weather becomes wetter, and with mud comes bacteria etc etc. Anyhow, we will see how it goes today with farrier... .

Lovely morning so far! A neighbour has popped in to bring me 6 enormous (and I mean enormous) quinces. Apart from jelly, what on earth does one do with them? Isn't there some famous Portuguese recipe with quinces? It is rattling around in the back of my mind somewhere ...?

And, very touchingly, our Tunisian roofer/labourer has bought me some beautiful black grapes. I was talking to him the other day about his family (he is totally alone here and living in very straightened circumstances) and about Liverpool football club and he wrote out some phrases for me in Arabic and I I gave him a packet of ras el hanout I had in the cupboard and some mint from the garden; really touched by this gesture as he literally has nothing to his name but the clothes he stands up and his carpentry skills as he is sending all his money back home.

Heigh ho! Dh has sent me work so I had better get on!

Have a productive day everyone!

Just waiting for Ned I guess he got held up by crossing unless zoo has him and is keeping quiet.

Have decluttered all of the August and beyond magazines in the summerhouse.

Since my phone call didn't match up when I was home I rang. I also rang GP to asked to be signed off again. She said(res) it was too early but then relented when I explained it was for stress and he would know all about it. He is out on call on Fri, Mon he isn't in, Tuesday to Friday was fully booked . I thought I was doing well and organised!

Need to type up everything I wrote yesterday.Dp has offered but he might make a hash of it.

Ta Das
2 phone calls
Decluttered magazines. 8Tidy* if it is made of paper it is decluttering or organising in my book.

Breakfast was lovely, we sat for over 2 hours , chatted , laughed , got emotional, we had a full English and then jam roly poly & custard ! I haven't eaten anything since, I really wanted an afternoon nap after all that food Grin highly recommend meeting up with your friend if you can, really brightened the day.

Tada
30 mins on the kitchen because I missed yesterday (all sides are decluttered and sparkling after this weeks hard work)
Box of stationery sorted , finding room looks lovely
Took dd1 to dance class
Popped into b&m for some new placemats , bought them and £28 of other stuff I didn't know I needed BlushShock

To do
Tea pots
Clothes out for tomorrow
Kids bedtime

Slowchirp · 10/10/2019 21:33

Evening everyone.

Bower if Ned appears chomping on delicious veggie dishes, we will know for sure that Zoo is implicated in his kidnap .... [knowing wink]

Ooh Tidy that sounds fab, I desperately want some jam roly poly now!

Another packed day. Tired. Dhorse has been treated (abcess was lanced, it wasn't pretty). It will take a few days for him to be sound I think.

Star for your list Lisette

Waves to everyone else! Links coming up.

Poor dhorse. That sounds painful. Hope on the mend.

Stood for an hour in the rain watching ten year olds playing football 🌧️ bless them

Tidyhomewannabe · 11/10/2019 07:36

Aww I hope dhorse recovers quickly sc.

I'm at work this morning, I'm aiming to get all floors mopped today - not an easy task with a toddler who thinks a wet floor is a good ice skating rink Grin may be able to do it before she finishes nursery, depends how work goes .

Lisette1940 · 11/10/2019 08:52

I'm in work this morning too, then small grocery shop, then swimming. Might get a little ironing done but there are three baskets full now. Catch-up Saturday I think.

House looks reasonably presentable atm.

Bowerbird5 · 11/10/2019 09:02

Ned hasn't arrived yet. Peers down to the south of England to see if he is at zoo house which can be easily spotted by the newly cut hedge on the satellite pics.Grin

No flying apart from dishes but sort procrastinating paperwork which is stressing me out.Going off to the Project for the last push and to swap old for new stuff which is supposed to be arriving.See you on Monday as no wifi.
Hope Dhorse is getting better. Did they mention a poultice? We used to do bran mash or some other stuff in a hessain sack bandaged on to foot.Probably thought of as old hat now. They were stabled though.
kitchen is pretty reasonable. Will do bin next week as I had just done it at weekend.
