Autumn leaves and a clean sweep: it's the October Fledgling Fly thread (2019)

Welcome to the thread where we (loosely) follow the Flylady housekeeping system here to combat CHAOS (can't have anyone over syndrome) with a load of Wine, chat and mutual support along the way. Quite a few of us have been on here for a while, so for that reason, we may seem cliquey, but we really aren't, and all newcomers, lurkers, returnees, regulars, and intermittent regulars are very welcome!

Every day I will post a link to the activities for "Today" which summarises everything you need on a daily basis if you want to follow the system strictly, but we tend to adapt it to suit our individual circumstances, homes, and energy-levels!

Please note that, athough Flylady is keen for us to check in to the website, we've recently had a few concerns wrt security, so although there is lots of useful info on the site, it's best not download it or put any of your personal details into the website for now, or sign up to the (many and frequent) e-mails (but your choice as some fledglings find the latter helpful).

More information on getting started available:
here (containing baby-steps!) but please don't hesitate to ask if you have any further qs.

There are 4 levels for Flying:
-Baby steps - good for starting a routine and overcoming the perfection crippling effect
-Baby steps and missions - basic routine + more in depth tasks
-Baby steps, missions, and deep cleaning (if you are at that stage).
You can't clean clutter so don't consider this one if you need the next level.
-Flying combined with a decluttering system (kondo/unfuck etc etc) let's be honest fly lady is good for routine but not so quick with the decluttering results sometimes.

There is NO wrong or right way of doing this, it is about adapting the system to suit your life circumstances, which will be different from someone else's, and don't be put off by the barftastically twee nature of the Flylady site, the underlying system is sound. Feel free to ignore any step or routine that doesn't suit you or your home! No perfectionism allowed!

And when it all gets too much: come and take a seat by the fire in our specially adapted "naughty" corner where you can enjoy virtual Cakeand Wine and lots of support from fellow fledglings.

More info follows (but again, please note we advise only looking at the pdfs and not downloading them):

** launch pad (general info) here

** daily babysteps pdf (ignore the ones that don't suit you or your home) here

** week day missions (some fledglings find it easier to do them at weekends) here

** info about zones (explanation of how zones work) here

** weekly zones (a rough weekly guide to which area of the house we are tackling currently, again adapt to suit yourself) here and here

** daily focus (helpful guide to allocate a certain day for a certain task) here and here

** deep cleaning lists pdf (only attempt when you have decluttered as you can't clean clutter!) here

Good luck and happy Flying one and all!

Slowchirp · 13/10/2019 10:56

Oh dear Zoo that sounds a bit grim. Can't you just hand him a long list of tasks or something ...? Wink

Top marks for this >>>kitchen and front room-both are at a tidier point than I ever remember in this house whoo hoo good on you! Star

Glad dd2 had good time Smile

DD just delivered back 30 mins ago with mascara smudges under her eyes Grin. She had a great time but didn't get much sleep. It's nearly noon here and we're going to evening mass, so we've just cooked and eaten enormous lunch/brunch of eggs, bacon, tomato, sausages, mushrooms and baguette with home made plum jam and freshly brewed coffee. Rather tempted to go back to bed but it's a sunny day and dogs are crossing their paws so out we go ... !

Have a lovely Sunday afternoon everyone! Catch you all later!

Morning everyone! DD’s are off for their nap in a bit and whilst they are I’m going to make a start at cleaning this up!

Autumn leaves and a clean sweep: it's the October Fledgling Fly thread (2019)
ChicCroissant · 13/10/2019 11:39

Welcome TilandPop, your photo has made me wonder where my own DD's VTech camera is now .... used to take good photos and she played the games on it a bit too! She is too old for it now and has a smaller one that eats batteries for school trips.

Had breakfast, did epic amount of washing up to catch up yesterday - but need to focus on laundry today, and shop ready for the week. Menu planning to incorporate DD's food tech classes even though she won't eat it herself , dietary requirements of DH and life in general. Next week will be all about lists, I did get a few things done last week so need to plan better.

Off for a shower, bit of shopping/lunch then we are off to a garden centre for coffee (and cake for DD if they have her favourite) and buy more plants for the fish tank as the residents decimate any we put in there. Plastic ones look more appealing by the day.

Catch you later lovelies!

TilandPop · 13/10/2019 11:53

chic we got them from my aunt, her DD’s don’t use them anymore. DD2 is still a bit young for it but I think they’re great!.

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/10/2019 12:09

til didn't spot the newbie earlierBlushsorry about that lovely, welcome aboard!
We had vtech camera toochic I found it last month when emptying cupboard in girls room if doom.if had little videos of dd2 singing and playing D's super cute😍😍😍

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/10/2019 12:13

Tada
Got half drowned grabbing shopping
Neighbours bin was out early(tomorrow collection day and since him mum passed near 2years ago he happy for my overflow rubbish in his bin)so DD and I tipped the 6cartier bags from epic clean in there as my bins already got lid up a couple inches and will need empty litter tray again in the morning before they come
Scrape and scrub stinky fish wet meat from behind t drier(boak) scoutcat really is a feral eater drop his food everywhere and nudging it around
Rest floor looks awful now.i scrub the drips of paint from the ceiling work other day

To do
Wash kitchen and living room floors in hands and knees
Have a look see if I can prose rusted nails out if cupboard understated wall holding up delapidated shelving that was here when we moved in...

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/10/2019 12:14

Also need to get on top of laundry and menu plan

Trying to be done before 3 so I can have a nice hot shower and back into "lounge wear" then put hair mask in whilst play little ones board games for a bit.wash it out and watch family film whilst doing beauty treats with dd2...

Stilllivinginazoo · 13/10/2019 12:16

Apologises for multiple typos, but I do feel I need to clarify we don't use Cartier bags for rubbishGrin

Slowchirp · 13/10/2019 14:32

Ah those were the days, dd had a Vtech story book that would never shut up ... Smile

That counts as tidy in my home Tilandpop Grin but good luck with the tidying!

Arf at Cartier bags Zoo that would be v expensive decluttering indeed! Grin

Chic another one having to focus on meal planning and washing here. I have just hauled the contents of an entire car down to the laundry to be washed. It's all in one giant mountain atm - need to sort - but there must be about 12 piles there I reckon. Have put wreck 2 sofa covers on to wash anyway. I'm sure your fishy residents appreciate the gesture Smile.

Dog walk was ok but missing the green fields and bright red toadstools. Feeling a bit weary now. Dh has gone to office. DD has just taken out all of her stress about hwk, period pain, too little sleep on me (oh joy), and I am going around trying to sort out all the mess that they have created while I was gone. It seems I got back just in time as a fully grown man and a 16 yr old were at the point of running out of socks, pants and lav rolls Confused. Back to reality with a bump ... .

OP posts:
Stilllivinginazoo · 13/10/2019 19:17

Sounds about right SC
I seem to be the only one who knows where loo rolls live/notes they're running out.and dd2 only one who warns me when down to last 3pairs pants/socks(to give me wash and dry time)

I got kitchen and living room floors washed before had my shower
"D"p got up and played on PlayStation with lil zoo/D's whilst dd2 tackled homework, then we put on a dvd(jack and giant slayer)I nod off briefly...
Dinner tonight is pasta and meatballs with broccoli, for dd2 and I it's sage and onion butterbean balls with pasta, roasted squash red onion, courgette and broccoli

I have every sympathy Laputa [leaves out hot water bottle and chocolate] that's why mine was evicted in February!

That does sound exhausting Foxes Brew hope you all sleep well tonight

Waves goodnight to Zoo and to everyone else!

Not much else happened today. Went to church. Came back and ate lamb chops, mint sauce, new pots, peas and carrots. Cleared up. Washing on timer. Stacked dw. Talked to dd. Tired. G'night all!

Welcome Tilandpop.

Commiserations Laputa.

I've had wine 🍷. Laundry done. Husband back. Work tomorrow. Away end of the week for short break. It's the Tattie holidays here when traditionally kids helped local farmers with the potato harvest and so were off school. < Image of potato for identification purposes for ds 🥔>

Slowchirp · 14/10/2019 09:54

Hello all. Very quiet on here today. Hope everyone ok.

I have some serious Flying to do between now and the end of the month. Paper sorting in home office ( three boxes a week) and clothes decluttering. Going to use the Zone 3 time (my bathroom is in ok shape) to do it in.

The clothes situation here has got out of hand. The clothes I wear the most seem to be hung on the back of doors and on exercise bike etc. And my wardrobe is full of clothes that I am too fat for atm. Chest of drawers not too bad as I did that before the summer. Also need to sort through my make-up and clean and chuck.

I did lose 2kg while I was away though - yay! Only 18 more to go ... Confused What is slightly depressing is the tiny amount of food one has to eat in a day to achieve that weight loss at my age. Ridiculously tiny. And so much easier to do at wreck2 because kitchen in different building to main house, one can walk for hours in beautiful countryside, you are on your feet all day doing physical things (dhorse etc) and you are surrounded by blokes who are very cheery, incredibly hard-working and gung ho, who power on all day without stopping for lunch, despite being offered it.

So need to keep up the physical activity while in town too.

Also need to start a bit of budgeting and planning for the day that falls between 24th and 26th December and begins with a C Wink and start making some presents (order some haberdashery and fabric and some UK food ingreds if not too late before Brexit deadline).

Laundry and meal planning also urgent - argh!

Have to do some 'work' work first though.

Have a productive week everyone!
