Great hacks you've used

I saw this on the DM
To get stuck on burnt bits off oven trays or dishes soak in fabric conditioner - I used Comfort.
It worked a treat.

If baking pavlova use a "magic oven liner" you've cut to size. The pavlova just peels off.
No baking dish required.
Or use a silicone cake mould.

Have you any great hack ?

Dishcloths in dishwasher before turning on

Chopped herbs in ice cube trays with red or white wine, then just pop out and use in stews and things.

Any idea how to get the discolouration out the bottom of the toilet? I let things slip cleaning wise when I was unwell and now can't get it white again!

stephstrops · 16/06/2019 15:19

Flash bathroom spray is amazing for getting stains out of carpets

SleepingIsOverrated · 16/06/2019 15:21

@Bobbiepin the Harpic in the black bottle is amazing. We were planning to replace the toilet in our new house until I accidentally discovered that this got rid of it!

Synecdoche · 16/06/2019 15:22

Scrubbing a SS sink with half a lemon and some salt brings it up lovely and shiny!

Pgjp129 · 16/06/2019 15:25

Try a bottle of coke for the toilet.

Paracetamol rubbed on the iron cleans it.

Bobbiepin · 16/06/2019 15:26

Thanks @SleepingIsOverrated I'll give hat a go. Just let it sit and give it a scrub yeah?

RubberTreePlant · 16/06/2019 15:41

A whole bottle of cheap cola overnight also works @Bobbiepin

SleepingIsOverrated · 16/06/2019 16:04

@Bobbiepin I left it overnight, didn't think anything of it until the next day when DH asked what I'd had to do to get it clean!!

Stravapalava · 16/06/2019 16:12

Baby wipes are brilliant for cleaning crayon off walls without taking the paint off.

Meckity1 · 16/06/2019 16:42

I use a several glugs of white vinegar in our toilet. It works really well.

disneyspendingmoney · 16/06/2019 16:50

WD40 to clean the cooker hood grease, stainless steel backsplash and hob. Just make sure it's completely evaporated before turning the hob on. Mines gas so it flared a little bit. It's also good for cleaning deep fat fryers.

It's a brilliant degreaser, it gets marker pen of whiteboards, cleanes the outside of fridge freezers or anything enameled and is pretty good on stained Formica.

disneyspendingmoney · 16/06/2019 16:54

Also citric acid in the toilet to shift archaic limescale, the type you get in Wilko's for cleaning home beermaking kits.

YorkshireIndie · 16/06/2019 16:56

Buy a peg octopus from Ikea and use it to dry socks and underwear. I have one hanging permanently in the airing cupboard and one for the washing line. It saves pegs and space

ChocolateHouse · 16/06/2019 17:09

Dishwasher tablet in dirty pans overnight with a splash of water, rinse out in the morning good as new. Also dishwasher tablets to scrub grease and grime off oven glass.

Drop of fabric conditioner on a tea towel over the radiator (turned on) for a nice smelling house.

Bobbiepin · 16/06/2019 18:04

Got no coke, will Pepsi Max work? Grin

I'l give that a go before I go buy harpic

RubberTreePlant · 16/06/2019 19:06

Yes, it's the acidity that matters. Pepsi Max will do the job.

AllTheWhoresOfMalta · 16/06/2019 19:10

Boil white socks on the hob with white vinegar to get them back to shiny white. These were DDs school socks and I had tried bleach, whitening things for the washing machine and vanish. Was on the verge of binning them.

EmeraldIsle81 · 16/06/2019 19:15

Window cleaning tip. So you know which side of the window any streaks are on. Clean one side with vertical sweeps of your cloth, the other side of the window use horizontal sweeps of your cloth.

ooooohbetty · 16/06/2019 19:25

@Bobbiepin Pepsi Max will work but is a bit of a waste. A bottle of own brand supermarket 25p coke is good.

WoollyMollyMonkey · 16/06/2019 19:44

That cola thing never worked for me, I ended up with a toilet 10 times browner afterwards! Envy [not envy! - looked gross!]

Bobbiepin · 16/06/2019 19:50

@ooooohbetty it's been sitting around for donkeys. Neither DH or I drink it but seemed wasteful to just throw it. Pretty sure its passed its use by so if it can clean my toilet it is fulfilling a purpose.

RubberTreePlant · 16/06/2019 19:50

A couple of denture sterilising tablets also works (or half a tube if it's really bad). Own brand ones are cheap.

rwalker · 16/06/2019 19:56

paracetamol to clean bottom of iron everything just comes off leaving it as good as new
