Do you iron?

If so which items do you iron? I haven't bothered with ironing for years, but I'm sick of seeing the dc going around in creased clothes. Dh thinks I'm mad and making more work for myself.

OP posts:
donajimena · 07/03/2019 14:42

I don't. I too have crumpled children. Bad mother. He's right though. Why make work for yourself?

funnystory · 07/03/2019 14:45

No. I've perfected the shake technique where I give things a good shake when they come out of the washing machine/drier and that gets rid of the worst of the creases, it's good enough for me. I hang shirts up on hangars when wet and they're usually ok but there's the odd one that needs an iron unfortunately!

Dimsumlosesum · 07/03/2019 14:46

Only work or school clothes.

Whatdoyouknowwhenyouknownowt · 07/03/2019 14:46

Nope, not since 2007...

There is an ironing board somewhere in the house.

RandomUsernameHere · 07/03/2019 14:47

Only work shirts. The DC's school shirts look fine without ironing (they have the John Lewis non-iron ones).

IWouldPreferNotTo · 07/03/2019 14:48

I iron shirts, trousers and things like that. Probably comes to 3-4 items a week.

Everything else can be a little bit rumpled.

When I had to dress more smartly for one particular office ironing was something I happily paid extra for my cleaner to do.

sittingonacornflake · 07/03/2019 14:49

Nope. Sometimes run my hair straighteners over something if it's really bad. Or put it back in the wash Grin

Nquartz · 07/03/2019 14:49

Nope! Everything is dried on radiators or pegged onto airers/washing line so no creases really.

DH irons his work shirts.

I work with someone who irons pretty much everything, takes her bloody ages & I can't tell the difference!

MIL definitely judges me for not doing it but I have no fucks to give.

PickAChew · 07/03/2019 14:49

I iron pretty much any clothing with a high cotton content.

CarolinePooter · 07/03/2019 14:50

I've bought one of those ironing presses and put DH in charge. He quite enjoys using it because it is slightly dangerous.

RatherBeRiding · 07/03/2019 14:50

Work clothes only - the ones that need it. I get the ironing board out for 15 minutes every few weeks or so. The rest of the time it lives in the garden shed.

Rafflesway · 07/03/2019 14:50

Yes but only items which have creases which I absolutely hate.

Many thing like jumpers, t shirts, leggings, jeans etc. come out of dryer crease free so no need for ironing.

I definitely always iron bedding! Cannot abide the slightest crease in bedding. Everyone thinks I'm a neat freak/virtually OCD 😹.

thefirst48 · 07/03/2019 14:51

I iron tops and trousers etc but not every piece of clothing.

paap1975 · 07/03/2019 14:51

Nope, my husband does because he does it much better than me (former military) :-))))

PrismGuile · 07/03/2019 14:52

No

ItsAllGone19 · 07/03/2019 14:53

Yes - I can always tell if something has been ironed or not and think it looks much better to have ironed clothes. However I'm not as rigid as my MIL who irons underwear and bedding!

shumway · 07/03/2019 14:53

Nope. Don't own an iron.

Bigonesmallone3 · 07/03/2019 14:54

Only work and school clothes.
Or on the odd occasion a piece that is too crumpled to get away with

PuzzlingPuzzle · 07/03/2019 14:54

Nothing. Anything that is that kind of fabric that needs really, really needs ironing goes to the cleaners. The wrinkle-free dryer setting handles everything else.

Isntthatalwaystheway · 07/03/2019 14:55

Yes, obsessively Confused
Even down to my toddlers underwear and socks! I just can't stand creased clothes, especially when ironing takes only a few minutes and improves appearance hugely!

scarus · 07/03/2019 14:57

No! Like funnystory I shake and hang shirts/trousers as they come out the tumble drier. Ditto sheets. Non-tumble drier tops I hang on a plastic hanger before I put on the airer.

rosie1959 · 07/03/2019 14:57

I iron quite a bit never quite worked out how people don't
DH wears a lot of 100% cotton polo shirts they can't be tumble dried and no matter how you hang them they just don't look right without a press
Cotton shirts the same
Some of my stuff is ok depends on the fabric

anniehm · 07/03/2019 14:59

I buy clothes that don't need ironing whenever possible

jcmayj · 07/03/2019 15:03

No, I don't even own an iron 🙈 I'm terrible!

GrumpyOldMare · 07/03/2019 15:03

Of course.
Work shirts and aprons, bedding, tee shirts, blouses, tea towels. They'd look horrible not ironed.
