Do you iron?

If so which items do you iron? I haven't bothered with ironing for years, but I'm sick of seeing the dc going around in creased clothes. Dh thinks I'm mad and making more work for myself.

Hell no!

Nacreous · 07/03/2019 20:16

I have a few tops and dresses that have to be ironed really, or they looks very creased. Most things are fine with a really good shake and then being hung up carefully though.

Most of my ironing is for sewing tbh.

Butteredghost · 07/03/2019 20:21

Nope, never. It looks nice but just too much work.

I notice that if I ever go to a friend's house that does iron, they usually have a big "ironing pile" that builds up and up and that they never seem to get around to, until eventually they crack and spend the whole day doing it. That's to stressful for me. I just get clothes off the line and put straight in cupboard.

RedRiverShore · 07/03/2019 20:27

A big ironing pile is going to be creased to hell before any ironing is done anyway because it is usually crammed into a basket or is in a weighty pile, so even stuff that was probably ok will be creased and need doing as the creases will have set in.

NeverSayFreelance · 07/03/2019 23:08

I'm not even sure I know how to work my iron. I don't bother, never have. Hang the clothes up and they will dry flat. No one has ever said my clothes look creased Grin

MadameJosephine · 07/03/2019 23:17

Very rarely. My DS was in the air cadets and used to iron his uniform, a month or two after he left for uni I had to ring him to ask him where he kept it Grin

MiniMum97 · 07/03/2019 23:28

No. I hate ironing. I have a few items that have to be ironed and these are ironed just before wearing. I avoid buying clothes that will need ironing wherever possible.

FermatsTheorem · 07/03/2019 23:28

No.

DS has non-iron shirts. I have lots of soft knitted-type fabrics which don't need it.

LondonHuffyPuffy · 07/03/2019 23:39

Nope. I am crap at it. I usually work really long hours (I am a lawyer) and the last thing I want to do with my evening or weekend is iron. Most of my clothes don’t need ironing anyway, I won’t buy anything that looks like it needs ironing. DH does his own shirts for work

@JaneEyre07 can you honestly say that you can tell when someone hasn’t ironed?? Do you go round eyeing people up and quietly muttering ‘ooh you slob!’ 😂

Those of us who don’t iron are probably more conscious of hanging and drying clothes so that they don’t crease. I genuinely doubt that you could tell.

I would quite like to have ironed bed linen but not enough that I could be actually arsed to use any of my precious free time to actually do it Grin

silentcrow · 07/03/2019 23:50

Martial arts kit for three, several times a week. Sigh. It just doesn't feel right otherwise, even though I know it's going to be sweaty and crumpled within minutes of class starting. And it's partly a respect thing, part of the mindset. For me, anyway. The kids probably don't give a toss.

School shirts. No matter what I buy, even non-iron and hung up immediately, they still need doing. Ditto cotton t-shirts, work trousers and dresses. DH does his own - I put my foot down on that as he's not customer-facing and can wear t-shirt & jeans; I'm not doing his stuff on top of the kids' if it's his choice to wear faffy clothes! I'd love to have beautifully ironed bedding, but I can't be bothered and it doesn't seem to work anyhow. Line drying is good enough.

Youngandfree · 07/03/2019 23:54

Yes everything except
Towels
Tea towels
Pjs
Underwear and vests

PlatypusPie · 07/03/2019 23:58

I do - though more summer clothes than winter, as I love crisp linen and cotton. Winter, more jumpers and tops than can successfully dry on a hanger. I do iron bedding as we like a high thread count pure cotton and it just finishes it properly. Lying in fresh sheets atm, mmmm. Though I ironed considerably less when there were children in the house with frequent changes of clothes and I wore leggings and jersey tops and bedding was wash and tumble poly cotton.

Sally2791 · 07/03/2019 23:59

No. There are books to be read

cloudymelonade · 08/03/2019 00:17

I iron basically everything except pants and socks but only because I find it really relaxing and it's my time to watch crap tv on my iPad while doing it.
Can totally see if I didn't enjoy it, I wouldn't bother.

Penguin34 · 08/03/2019 00:34

Oh it's making me anxious to see all this non ironing! I iron everything except underwear, towels and fitted sheets. Even things that don't really look like they need ironing.
I don't iron baby gripes though but I would iron little baby outfits

Penguin34 · 08/03/2019 00:36

Can't imagine getting in an unironed bed!

sardinesontoast · 08/03/2019 00:38

No.

That's a complete sentence, right? Wink

blackcoffeeinbed · 08/03/2019 00:51

No! But I do 'iron' the collars on my dc's school tops with me hair straighteners😉

Palaver1 · 08/03/2019 06:19

I find ironing peaceful.I iron everything .beddings, panties all clothing that needs ironing .
Must say but only for myself and My ASD child .The older children do what they want.

Palaver1 · 08/03/2019 06:22

When I have switched off the iron whilst cooling,I iron tea towels as well as towels.

shelikesemwithamoustache · 08/03/2019 06:24

No, nothing. I buy the non iron children’s shirts for school. That said, they look ok but could still do with ironing. I buy clothes that don’t need ironing as we simply do not have time, both working full time and get home late, 3 kids, animals etc. We look a little crumpled but not enough to make myself iron into the early hours of the morning.

Fraxion · 08/03/2019 06:29

I do. T-shirts etc are so much easier to fold when ironed. I don't mind ironing. In fact I've had the board up at 6am the last couple of mornings doing holiday clothes.

Shangrilalala · 08/03/2019 06:29

Everything. It’s a compulsive habit and Iwush I didn’t. I gave myself a talking to and cut back on pants etc years ago but appear to have gone back to my old ways.

So impressed and envious of you that don’t.
