Do you iron?

If so which items do you iron? I haven't bothered with ironing for years, but I'm sick of seeing the dc going around in creased clothes. Dh thinks I'm mad and making more work for myself.

No ironing.
I do however have an iron and board for emergency situations such as being a wedding guest etc

happymummy12345 · 07/03/2019 16:34

I can't stand creases so I iron everything except socks and fitted sheets. Everything else gets ironed

user1497787065 · 07/03/2019 16:37

Almost everything except socks and towels. Just love the neatness of it. Even the cat has an ironed duvet cover to sleep on. I know people will think me mad but I find it all very satisfying.

Roomba · 07/03/2019 16:42

I try not to iron much. Things like underwear, sheets etc that no one else even sees definitely don't get ironed. Everything else I try to hang up to dry so it doesn't crease. So I just iron school shirts and trousers if needed, work clothes that need it and that's about it.

My mother irons everything - pants, towels, tea towels, even socks! I was determined not to spend as much of my adult life ironing and then complaining about it as she has spent.

Roomba · 07/03/2019 16:43

I have, onany occasions, decided not to buy items because they looked like they may need ironing in future.

FriendOrFaux · 07/03/2019 16:50

I bought a steam generator recently as DH dropped my old iron. It's brilliant, saves lots of time. I iron as little as possible anyway, apart from school uniforms, shirts, jeans etc. I have started ironing the bedding as it looks so much better and feels lovely.

NunoGoncalves · 07/03/2019 16:55

Nope, nothing. Clothes are hung to dry and mostly kept hung in wardrobes after that too, so creases aren't really an issue.

avocadochocolate · 07/03/2019 17:39

No. They wear non-iron shirts for school and I am very careful about what I buy and how I dry it.

Topseyt · 07/03/2019 17:41

What is ironing? I don't do ironing.

Magmatic80 · 07/03/2019 17:47

Weddings, funerals and job interviews only. I wear dresses that hang up to dry for work. DP wears working gear. Everything dried hanging straight on airer. Job done.

Yubaba · 07/03/2019 17:51

Very rarely, I have a few blouses that need a press and a skirt with pleats that I iron other wise it looks crap so I maybe get the iron out once a month or so.
Dh irons his work shirts himself and the dc clothes just get hung up and the creases fall out.
MIL thinks I’m a slattern for not ironing and it’s a bit of a running joke between us.

donsom · 07/03/2019 17:55

I dont. I use the dryer. It gets all the creases out Grin

RedRiverShore · 07/03/2019 17:55

I think ironing is something that was done in the olden days when people wore thick heavy cotton stuff and also the hot iron used to dry the stuff off, it’s probably one of those tasks that will pretty much die out in time like letter writing.

Liesmyparentstoldme · 07/03/2019 18:10

No! I don't even know how to iron! Nor do I own one.

Soontobe60 · 07/03/2019 18:15

So many non ironers 😱😱
I dint iron either, but I have a DH who does it all. I sort the laundry, make sure everything is washed and dried, put away all the non ironed items then he irons whatever is left. Every Sunday morning whilst watching Sunday Brunch in the bedroom whilst I watch it from the comfort of the bed 🤣🤣🤣. I then put all the lovely ironed items away.

Floralnomad · 07/03/2019 18:17

I don’t iron , but shirts , sheets and anything else that needs ironing goes to our lovely ironing lady on a Tuesday and gets returned on Wednesday .

Greenteandchives · 07/03/2019 18:18

I iron everything. Even towels, boxers and socks. I enjoy it and have thought about doing it as a business. It’s very satisfying to see a lovely pile of neatly ironed and folded laundry. I also love freshly ironed cotton sheets on the bed.

burbleburble · 07/03/2019 18:22

I mostly iron Hama beads.

I very occasionally iron the dress I wear to weddings, and a couple of work blouses that I wear in the summer.

One of my parenting achievements was when DD was at a toddler group, picked up a toy iron, and said 'what's this'.

Seniorschoolmum · 07/03/2019 18:22

I do. School shorts & trousers, my tops, ds’s t-shirts.
And if I have a child-free weekend, I iron cotton bedlinen on the Friday night, have scented bath & wine and then read in bed before sleeping for 10 hours. Bliss. Who needs a spa. Grin

itsbritneybiatches · 07/03/2019 18:25

I iron my husbands work shirts on a Sunday and my daughters uniform whilst stood in the kitchen watching my tablet or listening to music. Everyone leaves me to it and I like the peace and the ironing doesn't bother me.

He'd do it if I asked him

itsbritneybiatches · 07/03/2019 18:26

I wish I could have the patience to do bedding. Shirts are easy but bedding is too big and just iverwhelms me

Drum2018 · 07/03/2019 18:29

I don't iron. Dh has a few shirts that would need ironing after the dryer but I leave them to him.

e1y1 · 07/03/2019 19:27

There was a time when I wouldn't leave the house in so much as unironed jogger slouch top - even though always had a dryer and was never really creased. The only things that were never ironed was towels.

Seemed to get out of ironing about 2 years ago. Have been thinking of going back to it, as whilst well folded and "dryer-d" clothes are crease free, there is nothing that looks as smart and as "finished" as pressed fabrics.

Saying all this, if at any point my clothes had have been creased and not looking almost ironed with careful folding and dryer, they absolutely would have been ironed, you can have the nicest cleanest clothes that look a mess when creased.

But it is work and does require time and electricity of course.

fleshmarketclose · 07/03/2019 19:33

Yes but I can't stand to see creased clothes. I don't iron towels, pjs, bedding though. I find it quite relaxing tbh put on an audiobook and do the lot on Sunday evening.

mrsoutnumbered · 07/03/2019 19:53

I do iron but would not bother with pyjamas or bed linen.

I have memories of my mother ironing her knickers. why, mother, why????
