New home for the new year - still getting rid of one item a day part 6

Here we are again!

Little by little a group of mums netters have been decluttering our homes by getting rid of one item a day. Whether we eat it, bin it, recycle it, sell or give it away we are slowly tidying our homes.

Is this the thread where we finish? Probably not

As usual newbies are welcome to join us. We get rid of one thing and come back to update everyone on our progress and get support when it gets hard.

purplefrog I also try and place things in the charity shop where they are most likely to sell Grin

Few things for a new rag bag culled from today’s washing. Lots of pus decluttered from a very painful abscess- the sporners would be delightedBlush

StealthNinjaMum · 15/02/2019 21:07

I'm really impressed with your bus efforts purplefrog

I have just one charity shop I donate stuff to. It's a small local charity and they take everything. Unfortunately they're at the furthest end of the high street from the car park so it's always a big effort to carry stuff there and involves me walking past at least 3 others. This shop sells old technology and so I can donate videos and cassettes!

gassylady ooh, have you posted in sporners corner? If you do it's obligatory to include a photo and preferably a video 😀

My freebie 'buyer' didn't show.

gassylady · 16/02/2019 14:20

No I didn’t post a photo (although not even my mum would recognise me from that angle!😬) Lots of papers to recycle today and some books into charity bag, eBay parcel posted too

OublietteBravo · 16/02/2019 15:34

DH missed his connecting flight and is stuck in the US. So I’ve taken the opportunity to put his entire collection of plastic bottles in the recycling. Every. Single. One. I’ve cleared them from the worktop and from the kitchen cupboard.

We've finally taken our load to charity. It's such a relief! I definitely feel lighter for it. (The load included some inherited and other sentimental bits and bobs. It felt like quite a leap but I'm glad I've done it.)

SandAndSea · 16/02/2019 17:41

Well done, @OublietteBravo ! Grin

vroc81 · 16/02/2019 20:19

I hate it when people don’t turn up Sandandsea - and it’s definitely worse for free stuff whoch aurwly someone should be keener on??

Finally feeling a bit better and wanted to find something in the garage so journeyed through to it found a lot of shelves were empty and put the stuff back on them so bit more space in the garage - if I wasn’t going to my mums tmrw I would have loaded up my boot for a tip run but as it is piled some stuff by the door for another day.. also found a couple of buried bags that need to go to the charity shop..

That’s a lot of water bottles oubliettebravo is he preparing for a disaster?

WoogleCone · 16/02/2019 20:55

Wow, he must be thirsty oubillete! Well done haha!

Did you know that bottles of water have a use by date, not because water goes off obvs but because that's the date that the bottle itself starts to degrade? I found that out a while ago and it stuck with me.

No clearing for me today as Ive been at work but I did buy all new knobs for the upcycle get effort yesterday! Need an hour of daylight tomorrow to finish painting but I'm not sure I'll get home in time. Will try!

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/02/2019 00:31

Well done, SandandSea - it's gone!

This morning, I've defrosted the fridge-freezer and that prompted DH to buy a new freezer much to my chagrin as I was trying to do without. I've told him I'm not using it it or cleaning it Grin

I've cleaned the kitchen, the utility and the bathroom and thrown out two cardboard boxes that were cluttering up the living room.

Hope you've all had or are having a nice, relaxing weekend Smile

SandAndSea · 17/02/2019 13:46

Today's item is a pair of cat claw cutters.

(There may be more things later.)

Thatsnotmybaby · 17/02/2019 16:06

The decluttering is going really well for me; the only problem is that it's becoming such a habit to bin anything I come across that is no longer wanted that I can't even remember half of it to record here. Yesterday was a hand cream with an overly strong scent and a couple of other things too I think 🤔

Keiki · 17/02/2019 19:53

I need to declutter a load of furniture from the house. I've listed it on facebay, but so far no takers.... any other suggestions?

KarBB · 17/02/2019 20:11

@Keiki I've had success using the app Nextdoor to give away all kinds of things though never tried selling). I'm based in London. Also used freecycle in the past.

PenelopeFlintstone · 17/02/2019 20:14

Keiki - If it's for free, can you put it out front where you live with a 'Free' sign?

KarBB · 17/02/2019 20:15

I've finally started Mat leave & my decluttering (having been enviously/guiltily following this post since the new year...). Finished a few small tubes of body lotions & threw away several tubes of hair removing cream that I haven't used for years & can't imagine I will any time soon. Also threw away a can of dry shampoo which I kept saying I'd use one day but I tried it out & it stank so off it went...
I also brought in a while carload of baby stuff (Blush) so need to get a bit more ruthless tomorrow but at least I've begun!

I got rid of another load of coat hangers. Where do they all come from? It’s almost as if they are breeding...

SandAndSea · 18/02/2019 00:09

@IWillWearTheGreenWillow - Oh, well done on getting that hoover in! I have only recently got mine into a cupboard too so I know the feeling. (I keep opening it to look at it. It's got a surprising amount of space around it!) Grin

pippistrelle · 18/02/2019 09:59

I feel like I've slumped a bit but work and family life has been crazy. Only rubbish has left the house, although I have focussed a bit on using up old consumables rather than buying new but only a few items have been ear-marked for the charity shop bag.

I have done some 'a place for everything and everything in its place' tidying, so things are looking neat. On the outside anyway. It has highlighted how much some rooms a badly in need of a refresh though. I like the colours they are already though so I'm going to have to try and find a paint match.

Keiki · 18/02/2019 14:03

Hmm looks like I'm going to have to sign up for Freecycle then!

Today I've put a wash bag, a kids tea set and a plastic storage box into the charity pile.

SandAndSea · 18/02/2019 14:18

Today's item is an eye-shadow. I clean it regularly but, have probably had it for over 20 years! (Eek!) I've always thought I used it, (I don't keep much make-up, just the one small make-up bag) but I guess I don't really. Not often anyway.

PurpleFrog · 18/02/2019 14:18

@Keiki - try Gumtree. Lots of people list free stuff there.

SandAndSea · 18/02/2019 17:18

More bits going out, including some out of date condoms (another thing I forget to check the dates of), some out of date oil (you can probably guess which drawer I've cleaned out) and 3 items of horrible, old jewellery.

WoogleCone · 18/02/2019 19:15

Hi everyone!
Been at work all weekend so not much done, no daylight left for painting (don't want to stink up the house with furniture paint) so will do that tomorrow while DD is at nursery.

I think I could do with sorting that drawer too sandandsea Grin

Huzzah for the hoover willow! Glad it has its home back Smile

I'm starving now so going to source me a fish finger sandwich!
