New home for the new year - still getting rid of one item a day part 6

StealthNinjaMum · 29/12/2018 10:28

Here we are again!

Little by little a group of mums netters have been decluttering our homes by getting rid of one item a day. Whether we eat it, bin it, recycle it, sell or give it away we are slowly tidying our homes.

Is this the thread where we finish? Probably not

As usual newbies are welcome to join us. We get rid of one thing and come back to update everyone on our progress and get support when it gets hard.

Previous thread is here

ive no excuse i run a charity shop so my aim is to get rid of all this crap cluttering up my house so everyday will take at least one item to the shop with me shut sundays but sunday i will sort out the weeks goodies

pippistrelle · 06/02/2019 09:00

I've already got the new one lined up and I know where it is!!!

Top work, SandandSea!

And Keiki - you really are doing incredible stuff. I literally didn't know what day of the week it was with a baby at that stage. I wouldn't have been able to de-clutter anything.

Not much done yesterday for me because Tuesdays are manic with the entire household having different activities in different places at different times, but I did chuck out some crappy old flimsy plastic coat hangers that came with clothes at least 6 years ago (I know because they have the age on them, and the child is no longer that age...) Replaced them with some nice sturdy ones, and I just feel like that wardrobe is looking neater now.

StealthNinjaMum · 06/02/2019 10:08

sandandsea I have those little victories too as a result of my decluttering and can't tell anyone in real life.

Having an unproductive week, I have a list but can't be bothered to do it. I have found some of stbexhs shoes so that will be my thing to go. I think I'm going to have a long bath and see if it perks me up.

I've been through and tidied my make-up bag and coffee table. Outs include:

An old, too-hard nail varnish
An empty tissue packet
2 used up emery boards
2 useless pencil sharpeners

labazsisgoingmad · 06/02/2019 18:59

did as promised today took an old x box to the shop with me on display now so wont probably be in shop for long but at least it is out the way may not always be that big an item but i am determined by xmas next my house will be a lot clearer

Keiki · 06/02/2019 20:06

Another 25 tops into the out pile. Three bags of clothes put into the clothing donation bins on the way to collect DC1. Didn't make the tip before it closed today so the electricals are all still in the car.

AntheaGreenfern · 06/02/2019 21:15

Yes I can't share irl.

My own family like clutter (hence the time it's taken to get a partial grip on my home) and wouldn't think it great to get rid! Friends tend to be tidier by habit and I'm a bit embarrassed to share.

Keiki, well done. You must be seeing a difference.

Gibble1 · 06/02/2019 21:16

Am so behind! Off work sick with a UTI and feel poo 😩

AntheaGreenfern · 06/02/2019 21:58

Good enough reason to take a break Gibble.

I've no such excuse today. Nothing had gone out so far so I've just done a quick cull of out of date medicine and old plasters from a catch all box in my bathroom. Oh and an empty bleach bottle left abandoned after cleaning on Monday..

I'm going to try and collect some clothes over the next couple of nights for a charity bag to hand in on Saturday.

SandAndSea · 06/02/2019 22:10

@Gibble1 - Sorry to read that, Gibble. Hope you feel better very soon. Flowers

SandAndSea · 06/02/2019 23:33

I've been dithering about what to do with a vase - to give it to charity or to a friend with flowers in it. Well, DP just broke it - knocked it off the side somehow (being clumsy). There's a lesson in there somewhere.

I've also added a game to the pile.

RaspberryBlonde · 07/02/2019 08:39

Thanks Stealth, I’m feeling much better today and would probably be over it if the DC would let me have a decent night’s sleep! It does seem to have been a bad year for colds and flu. Get well soon Gibble, UTIs are no fun.

DH made it to the tip yesterday with a load of cardboard boxes and other bits so that’s a boot load gone. I think he’s planning to go again tomorrow as there’s still loads of cardboard.

That’s a good way to avoid making a decision Sandandsea! There’s a few things here I would like that to happen to...

I’m going to have to decluttering my favourite jeans as they have a hole in the knee. This means stuff coming in as I now have no trousers that fit. I hate buying jeans too as there’s just too much choice. Not sure what else to tackle today, may see if I can bin some hangers as someone mentioned upthread.

Keiki · 07/02/2019 09:41

As DP has borrowed my car I've sent him to the tip to get rid of the small electricals. I've also got rid of two cat litter trays via Facebook today, and sold one eBay item. Tidyed up my sock storage and binned 10 pairs that I never wear as they always slip off. Enough for one day!

PurpleFrog · 07/02/2019 12:57

Doing quite well so far this week...

Put 2 more items on eBay on Monday evening, and have now sold 3 things this week which have all been packaged up with recycled boxes, padded envelopes and bubblewrap. That means the volume of stuff out is much more than the items themselves. Grin

I gave DP 4 pairs of glasses to put in the recycling tub at the Community Hospital earlier in the week when he was there for an appointment.

I washed 2 bedspreads last night that came from Mum's house. They will go to the Charity Shop with the next load. The 3rd bedspread was really faded in the middle so I will wash it sometime soon and put it in the textile recycling bag.

I also advertised a pile of magazines on Facebook last night.

SandAndSea · 07/02/2019 13:24

Out:

A quad of eyeshadows. It's well used and I'm sick of it spilling out every time I use it as it's too crumbly.

I've also replaced my diary which was falling apart. I had to copy everything over but it's done now and the old one is no more.

SandAndSea · 07/02/2019 13:26

Oo! And I've got a buyer booked in!! Fingers crossed!

MrsNezbit · 07/02/2019 19:58

Finished off a shower gel and got rid of another load of dvds and books to We Buy Books, be another £20 for the pot

OublietteBravo · 07/02/2019 20:08

I got rid of some random laundry paraphernalia (almost empty bottles of stain remover and in-machine balls and the like). Why were they not thrown out beforehand?

vroc81 · 08/02/2019 13:56

Having started well in January I’ve lost momentum since being away last weekend so going to have to do a Saturday nine to catch up February! Have just dropped all of January and some before in the charity shop so it has at least now actually gone gone!

SandAndSea · 08/02/2019 14:05

I know what you mean, @OublietteBravo . The more I do, the more I see.

MotherWol · 08/02/2019 14:10

Only one out today: a pair of Primark jeans, basically unworn, into the charity bag. Taking DD to a book swap tomorrow, so hopefully that'll be a one in-one out scenario!

Good work everyone!

I’ve never heard of a pudding auction before willow!

So I’ve finally sorted the drawer of doom in the kitchen. I’ve put some IKEA drawer dividers in it to keep like things together. I’m not entirely happy with it as they’re a bit flimsy and move around but it will do for now.

Has anybody else done the test on the Clutterbug website to see what type of Clutterbug you are? It turns out I’m a “cricket” which means that I like to have everything tidied out of sight in a perfectly organized system. According to the website the downside is that this search of perfection leads to procrastination if you’re not in a position to get things done just so. This is sooooo true in my case! So from now on I’m just going to crack on with things - if they don’t turn out quite how I’d like (drawer of doom, looking at you), I can always come back to them in the future.

SandAndSea · 08/02/2019 19:35

My buyer cancelled again!!

Moving on, my item today is an old coat.

gassylady · 08/02/2019 20:54
