New home for the new year - still getting rid of one item a day part 6

StealthNinjaMum · 29/12/2018 10:28

Here we are again!

Little by little a group of mums netters have been decluttering our homes by getting rid of one item a day. Whether we eat it, bin it, recycle it, sell or give it away we are slowly tidying our homes.

Is this the thread where we finish? Probably not

As usual newbies are welcome to join us. We get rid of one thing and come back to update everyone on our progress and get support when it gets hard.

Previous thread is here

Out: an ood cleanser.

gassylady · 30/01/2019 15:14

How many ood do you have? And why are they dirty?!

PurpleFrog · 30/01/2019 15:24

Ood never look particularly clean.... Grin

Keiki · 30/01/2019 16:08

Today I started looking through the last 3 months worth of letters now that I have the folders back in the house, and thus binned all the envelopes. Keep finding more piles I stashed during the building work Blush

Also finally convinced DP to put a few broken tools into a bag for the tip. It's a miracle!

SandAndSea · 30/01/2019 16:46

Hahaha!! Grin

Ood = out of date. It was a facial cleanser made of flowers and stuff.

chloechloe · 30/01/2019 19:56

I’ve cleared out another two kitchen drawers which are now looking pleasingly empty. I keep opening the tidy drawers to marvel at them!

Most of my time is being taken up with paperwork at the moment. We emigrated a few years ago and now with the prospect of a no deal Brexit I need to get everything in order for me and the kids by the end of March. Gah!

SandAndSea · 30/01/2019 20:34

Out: another few containers from the kitchen and bathroom, a cable and a bell. I've also managed to, finally, get a grotty (crafts) cup clean after lots of previous attempts.

Battenburg1978 · 30/01/2019 22:38

Well, booking 3 days leave to tackle the clutter has not gone to plan as DD has a bad cold and got sent home from nursery yesterday afternoon and has been off today, she'll be off tomorrow I think and maybe Friday too!

Still the Wardrobe of Doom has been cleared out and there's a large bag for life ready to go to the charity shop, more additions to the clothes recycling bag and few more bits only for for the bin have been bagged ready for chucking. Also binned the piece of carpet which had been laid on the wardrobe floor. Managed to hang up all of DDs dresses for her next/soon to be current size.

Small progress but still progress!

Battenburg1978 · 31/01/2019 09:56

Morning Declutterers :)

This morning's declutter - a bag of frozen mince I stupidly bought thinking it would be a budget friendly option to try before realising that not only does frozen mince get bulked up with water but per kilo it was also more expensive than getting fresh mince in Asda 😂 anyway, it's now in the slow cooker to make lasagne sauce. DD is still poorly but slightly better.

How is your baby Keiki? And how are you stealth? I'm sorry I'm so bad at replying to other's posts on the thread, I'm using the app and when I make a reply post I can't see the chain of other posts underneath - anyone know a way around this?

2 nearly out of date sudocremes binned and 2 books added to charity bag.

RaspberryBlonde · 31/01/2019 10:15

Morning all...woefully behind here on both the thread and decluttering. I think all I have managed this week is two pens which had run out and a bit of empty packaging.

I miss the milk drunk stage, DS is six months and has now reached the ‘clawing my face and bashing my phone while feeding’ stage. Hope you are doing well Keiki, can’t believe you’re back on the decluttering wagon already!

Stealth you sound like you are feeling positive but sure it’s still tough.

Hope your daughter is okv Battenburg, I just use the mobile website for posting which does show the rest of the thread.

Right, off to find some quick wins to make me feel better!

StealthNinjaMum · 31/01/2019 10:17

Thanks chloechloe I am not feeling strong but at least ploughing through a list keeps me focused and positive.

Sounds like great progress battenburg

I have a pile of stbexhs stuff. I am also going to spend half an hour going through my wardrobe as I have lost so much weight I want to hide the big stuff.

That’s a shame your plans got derailed battenburg, I hope your DD is on the mend soon. I have DD2 at home today too as she’s sick - she’s just voluntarily gone to sleep! The baby is asleep too in the sling but I’m choosing to have a few minutes relaxing instead of doing anything productive!

Well done on your weight loss stealth! I was going to suggest you treat yourself to something new to wear but that’s not really in line with the decluttered game theme!

Today I’ve finished a shampoo and a shower gel and see DH has ditched a couple of small toys received at Christmas which are broken already.

StealthNinjaMum · 31/01/2019 12:27

Thanks raspberry blonde and chloe I had a surprisingly good morning. Lots of lovely clothes fit me now but I am getting rid of a pair of trousers and a dress.

Please can I join? I've been reading along for a while now.

Today I have:

  1. Wrapped and sent two items that have sold on Ebay
  2. Decluttered all of my children's old books and have somebody picking them up later.
  3. One bag out for the charity shop too.

I am also in the middle of sorting DCs recently outgrown clothes, ready to bundle up and declutter but won't get around to that until tomorrow now.

SandAndSea · 31/01/2019 13:22

Hi @Squeakysailor ! Welcome!

SandAndSea · 31/01/2019 17:26

Today's Outs:

A wad of elastic bands.
Over 200 curtain hooks which I've been keeping 'just in case' for over 10 years.
A cat toy which has never worked properly.
A double switch case thing which is so old it's changed colour.
A new belt - bought online and too small.

SandAndSea · 31/01/2019 17:28

...And a curtain wire and some string.

WoogleCone · 31/01/2019 17:40

Welcome squeakysailor!

Today I had to cover at work so no major wins on the decluttering front although I did use the opportunity to clear out my inbox so that makes me feel good haha. Don't you just hate it when everyman and their dog hits reply all?! Drives me bonkers.

We are working our way through the freezer and using up some bits tonight so that'll have to count for today haha.

No luck selling my other shoes as yet, will keep trying.

X

SandAndSea · 31/01/2019 19:03

I've finished sorting out a cupboard and have more outs including an old shower curtain, a printer cover, a packet of fabric dye, an old, opened, bottle of wine and an old bottle of port with bits in it.

WoogleCone · 31/01/2019 20:16

Port doesn't last that long here sand 😂😂

Keiki · 01/02/2019 02:40

Not sure I'd call it back on the wagon, haven't even put all the letters in files yet! I have decided to list the maternity wear for sale, hopefully I'll get that done in the next few days. And whilst trying to find some normal clothes that fitted started a charity shop bag with 4 tops that spark no joy at all.

Keiki · 01/02/2019 02:51

P.s baby is doing well and putting on weight nicely, thank you for asking!

MrsNezbit · 01/02/2019 06:08

Emptied a bottle of loose change into a coinstar machine and sorted baby girls clothes that she has outgrown into a charity bag. Am full of good intentions and ideas of things to tackle but seem to be stalling - glad everyone else is doing well

Keiki · 01/02/2019 14:17

Right, at a quick glance in my wardrobe, ie far from kondoing, I have put in the charity shop bag:
20 tops
2 fleeced
1 jumper
1 pair of trousers
5 nightdresses
Not sure I can be bothered to list the maternity wear, might just add it to the pile.

What to do with old curtains? To sell on they'd need dry cleaning but I doubt it sell for more than that would cost. Binning seems so wasteful.

70isaLimitNotaTarget · 01/02/2019 14:41

Charity Bag went:

Tablecover
Waterproof coat (outgrown but still good)
Leggings
Shorts
Three pairs shoes

I need to de-clutter the garage (but not yet ,, need to work up to it!)
