[santa][santa][santa][santa][santa][santa][santa]
A warm welcome to the December (dare I say Christmas?!) Flylady thread. This is a lovely friendly thread where we loosely follow the Flylady system (see the Flylady website ) in the hope of having organised homes and lives.

We are a long running thread but always welcome new members; the more the merrier Smile.

The new slimline structure seems to work well so I will stick with that. I will leave some links in this OP and then some quick links in the daily posts. Please do familiarise yourself with the Flylady website, especially if you are new. The Flylady is (understandably) keen that people do look at the website.

On the website there is information for beginners. You can also sign up to the Flylady emails but we would advise caution as there are hundreds of them.

We post our achievements (ta das) and our to do lists and any other general chatter about life / flying.

Information on getting started: www.flylady.net/d/getting-started/

The launch pad is also a good starting place:www.flylady.net/c/lp.php

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself. The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts is effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

Be kind to yourselves, jump in where you are and be careful not to crash and burn! Especially at this time of year.

A daily summary (which should update automatically every day) is available on the Flylady website at flight plan here.

The link to the current zone and missions is here.

Re. zones, do what works for you. I don’t always stick to the zones myself and do what works best at the time, with varying degrees of success!

daily focus

missions for the week

Flykids mission

I’m sure I don’t need to tell anyone that it is getting close to Christmas so there are holiday missions here.

December’s habit is usually pampering yourself but has not uploaded yet; I’ll link it tomorrow.

beginner babysteps.

The best place to look for an overall summary is the launch pad.

Happy flying everyone.

Also a huge thank you to SC for a lovely November thread. FlowersCakeBrewWine

I’m pleased go see the naughty corner is going well Xmas Grin.

Ta da:-
Dishwasher on
Laundry not in awful state
DD1 nearly asleep
DH putting DD2 to bed

To do:-
I feel the best decluttering now is to do something about the presents so I am going to make myself do some Christmas wrapping. I would say with wine but I have drunk my quota so will have to be with something good on telly instead.
Just need to do a laundry reset first

I can really sympathise foxes with the full calendar. Then feel guilty for being ungrateful Xmas Confused

How did you declutter Christmas Kings?

zoo Xmas Grin at fishwife and growling harridan. I think we can all relate.

Waves to foxes, zoo, Forestier, Hills, Sass and everyone else. Thinking of you SC.

Makes a cosy bed for I’ve with soft pillows, warm duvet and a pile of magazines.

Feel so tired I have given up Miss Marple in favour of bed!

Had Mass , baptism and then the choir concertPractice then a concert.
Conductor was smiling after the performance. I even nailed the very high notes that I struggled with on last Sunday!

Bowerbird5 · 09/12/2018 21:32

Welcome Kings 🤗🍫🌲

HillsBesideTheSea · 09/12/2018 22:53

All I can offer for the naughty corner is some gloop that used to be gluten free pasta, and some charcoaled white sauce that was supposed to be cheese sauce except the cheese was soooo mouldy it was not rescuable Sad was supposed to have pasta and cheese sauce for tea

Additional disasters this evening include falling off the front doorstep, twisting ankle and breaking door handle in process. falling out irreversibly with a sibling, arguing with ds about effort grades, work ethic and bloody DoE, losing voice, filling entire house full of acrid smoke from previous cooking disaster, chosing a working christmas decoration from the shop only to find that when they checked the price they switched it for one that is not working Angry, the pot for a plant I bought was broken when I got it out of the cupboard,

Amongst other things. I am tired and totally done with fucking festive cheer. It can sodding go to hell and cause chaos there!!! Angry bastarding festive season.

SlightlyCoddled · 10/12/2018 06:49

Hi all, just checking in v briefly! Ouch Hill's hope your ankle is ok and that you have a better day today! And a warm welcome to KingsScorn and waves to everyone else. Dh has been found to have intermittent dips in blood pressure so we are trying to find the cause. At least we have something to work on now. Sil and entourage here sort of helping so must get on but just wanted to say thanks for kind thoughts Toostressy and everyone else! Over and out again for now! Save some fizz for me Festive pls for when I'm back in circulation!

foxessocks · 10/12/2018 06:52

Hope all ok sc and they get to the bottom of what is causing it.

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/12/2018 08:52

Ankle is fine, wrist otoh is a write off so to speak Hmm and it is my dominant writing hand Sad

Today is not starting out much better. And I am booking a hotel later so i can avoid sibling and earlier family christmas and celebrations. NC is going to be hard but I am done with this shit.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 10/12/2018 09:28

Hills FlowersBrew. SC, as you say, st least they now have something to look at for your DH. Well done on your singing yesterday Bower, it sounds lovely. Big wing flaps to foxes and everyone else.

I am going to try to be realistic with my to do list today. So...
Finish morning routine
As much wrapping / Christmas organising as is feasible
Update calendar at least for today and tomorrow
Go to gym

Then it will be school pick up and gymnastics.

OP posts:
foxessocks · 10/12/2018 12:37

I don't know where the time is going!!! My to do list is growing and time is speeding up and up!

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/12/2018 14:36

I did the only sensible thing possible this morning. I called in sick and went back to bed. Feeling slightly more human and a lot more like I can face the world.

Which is a good job because there was a rather alarming cracking sound from my wardrobe. Tbf it was an argo flat pack that was bought for when ds was little (around 8mths-1 year) it has be used, abused (god know how much weight is on top of it atm in storage), disassembled and reassembled many times in that time. It owes me nothing. But it could have weight until after the weekend HmmGrin It will be fine but I need to get my act into gear and actually do my stuff. But first i need to pick up the last few bought christmas presents and cards.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 10/12/2018 17:22

Oh no Hills, that’s all you need! Totally with you on time racing away foxes.

Ta da:-
Did my to do list except for calendar.
Did manage to get nice cards for DH and DB while doing mini food shop which was great

Is everyone ok? Quiet here today. Hope it's just Christmas countdown madness. I feel like my head is full of things to do and remember at the moment despite a "low key" Christmas!!

Todays ta das to make me feel a bit better , the house definitely looks better than it did this morning so that's got to count for something!

Made dd packed lunch for school trip
Dusted
3 X washing
Folded and put away laundry
Dishwasher on and emptied
Dinner in slow cooker - minted lamb casserole with cabbage
Ordered a few more Christmas presents online
Put food shopping away
Finished some work
Went to the supermarket
Mopped kitchen
Emptied bins
Changed dd bedding
Changed all the towels etc
Decluttered letter rack
Sorted out dd clothes and money for tomorrow's school activity
Sorted out dd swimming kit for tomorrow

When I put the food shopping away this evening (online shop) I have accidentally ordered 3 blocks of butter, 3 jars of mincemeat and 3 boxes of shreddies Confused that's a lot of mince pies and a lot of cereal (and the dc mostly eat porridge!!) Think I'm starting to lose the plot slightly Grin

foxessocks · 10/12/2018 22:05

Oh and about 100 mushrooms too...(slight exaggeration but way more than I need or want)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 10/12/2018 22:14

Oh no foxes. Not that it helps you now but sometimes if you catch these errors at the door with food shopping you can give non-perishables back.

We are all ok here but heard that a friend is not well Sad. They should make a full recovery but it will be quite debilitating until they do and nobody can give a firm timescale. Might be quick, might not be. It shouldn’t by now in my line of work but every I often I am amazed by how shit things can be. Anyway, was going to stay up late wrapping but think actually i’ll Take care of myself and watch something on my phone then go to bed.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 10/12/2018 22:15

Oops sorry for typos in that!

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 10/12/2018 23:43

ta da
pick up the most awkward of the presents left to get (bit out of the way to get)
Sort through hanging clothes of wardrobe - pile for the storage bag for when shrink and a pile to just go, plus all that was hanging that will be stored on a shelf as of tomo is now folded and out of the way.
Bought a cheer me up skein of yarn Blush - it has plans for it so is not random.
Evict the box of random socks
evict wips
Evict the things that should be on the ironing pile and I have no idea how they ended up in my room before ironing Hmm
look for screw driver which will be needed tomo
Move pictures ready for all the moving tomo
Buy batteries and fix the sodding christmas ornament I bought yesterday
Carefully measure room and contemplate furniture options.
Wonder wtf to do with ds' christmas presents...
Disassemble wardrobe
Realise that somehow my yarn stash is 3 times the size I thought it was Blush
Move a couple of pieces of furniture.
I am currently boiling up the pan from yesterday's tea disaster, sorting through stuff that was dumped on my bed, and doing laundry.

HillsBesideTheSea · 10/12/2018 23:48

foxes I believe mushrooms can be sliced and frozen if needed. --might be worth checking cos my brain is overtired mush, but sometimes it is right.

Stilllivinginazoo · 11/12/2018 06:16

foxes I've not tried from raw,but I've saute ed and frozen mushrooms..as for mincemeat.ive seen recipes in previous years for mincemeat cake and scones,so doesn't all have to be incased in pastry
I've seen you did pack up for DD for a trip, did she enjoy that?

foxessocks · 11/12/2018 07:00

Thanks hills and zoo I never knew you could freeze mushrooms I'll look into that! The mincemeat does keep for years to be fair and I do love a mince pie! Dh makes a nice Christmas Chelsea bun which has mincemeat in it too. Mincemeat scones sound nice zoo. Just frustrating because of the money I spent when we didn't need it all Blush

That's useful to know stressy re giving stuff back, I knew you could if damaged but didn't know you could otherwise. Hope your friend is ok Flowers

Zoo she did enjoy her school trip but came out of school very emotional and tired, think it was a lot for the little ones! She was most excited about the big bus and that she got to take a packet of crisps Grin she has another activity today so hope she slept well...
