The Organised Mum Method

IcanDorisIwillDoris · 02/09/2018 15:35

Does anyone fancy joining me in following the organised mum method?

Back to work tomorrow after the summer off (work term time only) and need to get on top of a house work routine after struggling this last year or so to stay on top of things.

I suffer with anxiety and can easily get lost in my mood without structure and I like what I saw on the website. Will probably tweek the method as I go but it's a good structured plan to kick things off.

I work odd hours around the kids being at school but have a clear hour each day to dedicate to this. Plus I am sick of losing my weekends to playing catch up when I could be doing nicer things with the kids!!

Four of us in a 4 bed semi which is clean, just full of stuff that comes with having kids. It can get pretty messy!

Have done the odd bit of decluttering over the summer which has made a bit of a difference!

Looking forward to having a house that doesn't embarrass me on the odd occasion a guest arrives unannounced Blush

@Villanelle123 think how nice it will be to go to bed when it’s done!

Villanelle123 · 25/10/2018 08:32

Did Level 1 and 2 yesterday but no boot camp as I was out. Will make up for it today as I’m off work so will try and get the bedroom finished!

Cherrypi · 25/10/2018 17:12

Ooh miscellaneous room tomorrow. Not having a study or dining room I think I’m going to tackle my filthy car.

Villanelle123 · 25/10/2018 18:46

@Cherrypi that sounds like a plan! Mine is a skip on wheels.

I need to do level 1 and 2 before OH comes back with kids from Halloween disco but am struggling to tear myself off of the sofa. We will be bootcamping the bedroom again later!

ememem84 · 25/10/2018 19:09

HOUSe blitzed. Cleaned it before we started unpacking and then after.

MinecraftHolmes · 26/10/2018 08:58

I don’t really have a miscellaneous room so I’m catching up on the bits of kitchen day that I had to give a miss yesterday due to the bloody awful decision to paint the living room.

SchadenfreudeUndeadified · 28/10/2018 18:53

that included a break to clean up cat sick

Sounds like your leisure time goes the same way as mine.

Other people would have a kit-kat . . .

You and I clean up cat sick.

Cyw2018 · 28/10/2018 19:59

I have made the miscellaneous room Friday focus an admin day, so filing, scanning, shredding, backing up computer etc.

ememem84 · 29/10/2018 06:25

Monday and we are in our new house. Let’s see how TOMM works for me.

I’ve put a load of washing I. And on the timer so it’ll finish just before I get back from work so I don’t have to leave it sitting around.

Dishwasher emptied.

Bed will be made once dh gets out of it.

Villanelle123 · 29/10/2018 06:33

Must not spend all day on MN or watching Celebs Go Dating

I REALLY need to finish Bootcamping the bedroom and start the kitchen. I start a new job a week today and was absolutely determined the house would be completely done by then. I’ll be so angry with myself if I don’t.

Have a good day all!

Yorkshiremum17 · 29/10/2018 06:44

I've been doing the Tomm method for about a month now, my house has never been so clean. I didn't have to bootcamp as we are pretty tidy anyway, but the half hour in a morning has been a complete revelation. I work full time but get up a bit earlier to fit in the half hour clean and my house has gone from being hoovered once every 2_3 weeks to being hoovered 2-3 times at least every week! Love, love, love it!

Villanelle123 · 29/10/2018 06:47

@Yorkshiremum17 - That’s fantastic. Well done! I can only dream of doing it in the mornings.

Thirtyrock39 · 29/10/2018 06:58

I am loving TOMM
I try and do level 1 jobs in the morning before work (except hoovering do that later) and I sort and put away washing in the 15 mins as well (hoovering my downstairs only takes a minute or two so the load of washing is most time consuming of all level 1 jobs but still doable in 15
I do the thirty min jobs after work or in the evening and haven't properly started the Friday focus yet but often kind of do it on my day off
The main improvements for me have been the always clean bAthrooms, decluttered hall and kitchen being regularly blitzed.
Also has meant weekends are pretty much housework free other than ironing and level 1 jobs
I love it

Villanelle123 · 29/10/2018 08:49

Level 2 done ✅
Will do Level 1 tonight as like to do it before bed.

Now the bedroom Haloween Sad

Jackshouse · 29/10/2018 11:30

crimson72 I have just started TOMM but we have a cleaner (who we will sadly have to end soon) but I would think about doing the Kondo method first to get rid of the clutter. Just do it at weekend. And then maybe do TOMM durring the week but don’t bother with the boot camp, your house should slowly but surely get cleaner.

Littlechocola · 29/10/2018 12:52

Just got a vileda turbo mop. It’s amazing! I want to rip up the carpets and only have floors that I can mop! Grin
Level 1 jobs done. Having a quick break and then front room and bedroom. I’m still struggling on work days so jiggle them around meaning that I often do two rooms on my days off. It’s working for me.

Brideslave · 30/10/2018 07:27

Good morning!
We are back from half term holidays and I have an actual mountain of washing to do.
DS has a two week half term so I have both children today (I have the week off work).
We got back yesterday and I did 3 loads of washing plus level 1 jobs but only a quick dust and hoover of the living room as I was just too tired.
Today I will need to be back on it. I am taking the children swimming this morning but will then try to involve them with cleaning their rooms Hmm I am not going to do bed linen today - I do not have the capacity for anymore washing! Will do that at the weekend. I have written it here now so I will have to do it Grin

Good luck everyone.
I also missed the Friday focus last week and so I plan to spend the weekend sorting out my utility room - it is full of the garden toys that need to be cleaned and sorted for winter. It fits in nicely with this week's FF.

Villanelle123 · 30/10/2018 08:38

Good luck with the washing @Brideslave - my absolute pet hate and it builds up so quickly then continues to build up while you dry it because there’s no space to dry anymore Halloween Confused

I am misbehaving this morning and watching some trash tv before starting. Hopefully I can stop at one episode of Celebs Go Dating!

Brideslave · 30/10/2018 13:40

Yes, swimming was a poor option. 3 more towels to add to the pile Angry

I think my issue is that I am washing even the lightly worn stuff as it will be going into vacuum bags in the loft for winter, usually we holiday in early summer and get to wear all the clothes again.

Tumble drier is proving very useful at the moment. It is the ironing I am dreading....

Littlechocola · 01/11/2018 13:11

Playing catch up today! Kitchen and hallway done.
Level 1 jobs done.
Need to tackle the spare room. It’s my most hated room because it’s a bit of a dumping ground and easily gets out of control.

I’m struggling with dh being off work as he makes lots of mess although he did clear the side in the kitchen this morning. Confused

Villanelle123 · 01/11/2018 14:15

Have only being doing level 1 religiously every day.
Level 2 I do when it’s living room and hallway/stairs.

Brideslave · 02/11/2018 07:47

Just out of interest, what are your level 1 jobs? I seem to do different things each day.

Villanelle123 · 02/11/2018 08:39

Religiously every day I tidy and hoover the living room (always after the kids have had dinner and before we sit down for the evening) and wipe down either the sink or bath each day and either wipe toilet cistern etc or do the bowl with the brush. Oh and do at least one load of washing. It doesn’t always take me 15 mins I don’t think and it’s not all done at once but that’s what I do daily.

Villanelle123 · 02/11/2018 09:09

Ps. When I say religiously every day ... I’ve been doing this for two weeks so I’m not a die hard yet!

Freshprincess · 02/11/2018 09:25

CAn I join in? I read about this on another thread and thought I’d give it a go. I like the lists and can see the daily rooms and the level 1 jobs will definitely work for me.

However the house is a clutter war zone, I’m verging in one of those before pictures From hoarders from hell. My plan was to do the boot camp alongside the level 1 jobs but I’m two weeks in and have only competed one room. Is this normal? I desperately need to get on top of it, but I’m feeling really my overwhelmed.
