After a thousand posts our homes are beautiful, decluttered places of harmony and relaxation….. or perhaps not?

We’re still trying to recycle, freecycle, sell our unwanted stuff and most of all clear out our houses, garages and sheds.

It’s easy to get involved, literally get rid of one thing a day and report back for support (and sometimes finger wagging if you’ve ‘accidentally’ bought a load of new clutter!)

Please join us and a warm welcome back to

@Tiddlywinks63 - Sounds great! Well done! Star

AdaColeman · 10/04/2018 19:51

Oh I've got a huge plastic drum full of lego, would a charity shop take that? I could wash it before sending it.

Middleoftheroad · 10/04/2018 20:00

We once bought some K-nex from charity so worth a try.

PurpleFrog · 10/04/2018 20:04

Lego is worth selling - Gumtree or Facebook if it is really big tub. Otherwise, eBay.

CiderwithBuda · 10/04/2018 22:35

Getting rid of Lego? {Faints}. Never.

PenelopeFlintstone · 10/04/2018 22:46

Our charity shops sell jigsaws with missing pieces. They have a 'tester' and put a sticker on the box - 'One piece missing'. Different country though.
I have truly fallen off the wagon but am keeping this thread in my Watched list. I'll be off work for a fortnight after Friday and will try to redeem myself then.
It's good that I know my 7 times table....

StealthNinjaMum · 11/04/2018 08:47

That's interesting, mine always ask if something is complete when I donate it so a puzzle with one piece wouldn't be welcome - but I'm sure someone would want it on free cycle.

You can sell lego by weight around here.

Middle we have so many drawers that I can never find anything and I had a cleaner who used to tidy things away in any drawer so I would just forget I own stuff.I have four mismatched chest of drawers and would like to get rid of them to get two that match the bed. Today I am going to sort out one of the four drawers under my bed. I think it's a mix of summer stuff (vests, shorts) and pyjamas that I don't wear can't squeeze into

DM does jigsaw testing for one of our charity shops. She loves a jigsaw.

CiderwithBuda · 11/04/2018 09:28

Ememem - what a great job! I could do that!

CiderwithBuda · 11/04/2018 09:30

I’m tied to the house today as have some workmen here. Plan is to do a quick tidy/clean/vacuum around and put on washing etc and then I’m going to tackle hall cupboards- coats, scarves and the dreaded shoes.

CiderwithBuda · 11/04/2018 14:14

Shoes and boots pile

Keep on getting rid of one thing a day decluttering challenge!
MajestyRoyal · 11/04/2018 14:46

Cider you've inspired me to sort out my shoes and eBay the lot!! Thank you! This is a job I've been putting off for so longBlush

CiderwithBuda · 11/04/2018 14:56

I can’t be bothered with ebay but the charity drop off box will do well! It was easier than I thought. (Not admitting that I probably have the same upstairs - that was the downstairs lot! Blush)

Now for coats and jackets.............!

MajestyRoyal · 11/04/2018 15:04

10 pairs of shoes to be sold, 4 of which haven't ever been wornBlush

Two were outgrown by DS Months back.

I have a bag of old clothing items upstairs which I don't like anymore, I will list them on eBay too. Anything which doesn't sell is going to the charity shop.

AdaColeman · 11/04/2018 15:12

Got rid of a jumbo pack of crayons today that was a free gift with something, and some junk mail.

In France you can pick up a sticker at PO or newsagents and put on your postbox to stop junk mail deliveries, so much easier than here where there are forms to fill in.
At least I've stopped the free newspaper delivery with a just note in the window.

ememem84 · 11/04/2018 16:44

FOlding and sorting laundry here. Hate this job but it does make drawers and cupboards tidier and look less cluttered.

CiderwithBuda · 11/04/2018 16:55

A couple of jackets to go. And a box of weight watchers info from years ago. Three books. A basket.

A couple of coats to be dry cleaned.

Checked pockets of things - in my old winter dog walking coat I found a dog lead, a dog biscuit and Hungarian coins. We left Hungary 7 years ago! Haven’t needed that coat since. It’s a big long Lands End one that is like wearing a duvet. It was very useful dog walking in minus temps! Can’t decide whether to keep or get rid.

Clutterfreeintraining · 11/04/2018 18:13

Hi,
Just checking in Smile
Ememem- I’d love a job as a jigsaw tester!!
Stealth - how did you get on with your drawers?
Cider - good work! I love a duvet coat so I’d keep it Grin
I recently found some forints in a purse, checked their value on a currency converts and expected to get about £30...took it to the PO and was a little disappointed to discover I’d made a mistake and my 1200 forints were only worth about £3!!
Only thing to leave the house today was a pair of shoes which sold on eBay yesterday. Someone is supposed to be coming to collect two camp beds tonight (another eBay sale) but haven’t heard from the buyer so far.

StealthNinjaMum · 11/04/2018 19:38

Cider are you getting rid of all of those shoes? Wow that's impressive. I don't even own that many.

Clutter the drawers are kind of a project for the next few weeks but today I went through a big drawer under the bed. It had sort of become a dumping ground for nightwear, and summer clothes like vests and shorts. I also found some gym clothes. Anyway I sorted through it. I have put the items in four small drawers. I have only thrown out two vests but at this stage I just want to group things together before I start chucking stuff out buying from scratch.

I hope your collector picks up the camp beds, that'll leave a massive space.

Another ongoing job is the mouse situation. I am still cleaning food areas much more than usual and have emptied half the shelf the mouse got to and done two bottle bank trips with emptied oil and vinegar bottles. I have googled how germy mice are and will probably throw out everything that was in the cupboard which is upsetting as it'll cost a fortune to replace it and also I had lots of things like posh chutneys, mustards and sauces that were presents. I suppose this has done me a favour, some are years old. Two dead mice so far. I hope that's it.

Just spotted a 'thank you' card from mil for xmas presents from 2 years ago and an anniversary card from dh's aunt. I am going to shred them! That's more bits of paper gone!

Medwaymumoffour · 11/04/2018 19:41

I’m still here, just drowning in Easter school holiday mess right now. Dh is ill and we went away for the whole of last week.

I’m positively feral right now...

StealthNinjaMum · 11/04/2018 20:03

Come on medwaymum set yourself a target of 300 items in 3 days, you know you want to!

OP posts:
Clutterfreeintraining · 11/04/2018 20:06

Sounds like a good start, stealth. And fingers crossed that you’ve seen the last of the mice!!

Medway - I totally hear you re holiday mess!! Our schools are still off this week and the chaos the children generate is ridiculous. I’m regretting making them play doh yesterday...I keep finding bits of the stuff everywhere. On the plus side, it used up the last of a bag of flour that was probably long past its best Grin

Camp beds have just been collected - yay!!!

Medwaymumoffour · 11/04/2018 20:24

😂 will throwing out all of the kids bedding, toys and dirty clothes out onto the front lawn on the first day of term and setting it alight be close enough? I’m seriously tempted right now! Every 300 things I throw out I seem to accumulate another 600. Need to stop buying everything.

I though my eldest son had no underwear so bought 12 boxers only to discover a mound of washing dh had helpfully shoved into my cupboard.

For the first time ever I have watched Hoarders and thought the woman’s house wasn’t to bad😱 luckly youngest son has ripped his jeans so they can go to his respite club as spares.

Being tidy by Christmas seems like a pipe dream again

AdaColeman · 11/04/2018 20:31

300 items in 3 days!

UnRavellingFast · 11/04/2018 20:40

Hi could I join? I've just binned a bag of floor samples that I don't like and know I'll never get round to returning. Is this wrong?! Anyway a square foot of useless gone!
