If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine and Cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it November already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore the barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to the emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here!.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

I wouldn’t expect to see the screen personally, although I guess it might happen - that way I wouldn’t be disappointed.

Absolutely yes it is a really positive step, just didn’t want you to expect guaranteed answers tomorrow. Hopefully they will send results quickly for you Flowers.

HillsBesideTheSea · 23/11/2017 22:34

Life is not getting easier. A busy day tomo have been complicated by a broken car and needing to do Health and safeyy paperwork in school tomo. None of this helped by the unhelpful helpful idiot that did a job when it was not ideal and left mess everywhere in my room and me very stressed about things that could be broken. So instead of coming home (walked in door 10mins ago) and passing out in bed I am now having to tidy and clean my room because I am not sure what is broken and I object to sleeping in a bed with sawdust and wood chippings. Apparently IABU for being pissed of about this and not grateful the job that could have waited until tomo was done tonight. fuckwit, twatface, stupid fucking idiot I am so tired it is unbelievable and now it will be 1 am before I get to go to bed. I think I am allowed to cry in the corner.

Sludgecolours · 23/11/2017 22:58

Oh dear Hills that sounds v stressful. The person responsible could have at least thrown an old-bed cover or some plastic sheeting over your bed before starting work and made an attempt to clear up. I would be upset too. Hope you don't find too many things broken Flowers Cake

Waves to Toostressy it's the little things - like liquid soap everywhere - that can really make a day seem very testing indeed (esp on top of demanding dc).

Hope the fasting not too onerous Cag!

OP posts:
HillsBesideTheSea · 23/11/2017 23:33

Person was explicitly asked NOT to do the job in that area, person know this and tried to lie about having been in that area. Which is probably why I am so fucking furious about it. Living with Aspies is HARD.
And I think one of the casualties will be the computer which is now completely playing up. and point blank refusing to charge or recognise ports. Other things have been broken.

Longtime · 23/11/2017 23:36

Sorry everyone seems to be having a hard time. Spend the last hour or so chatting to ds1 on messenger talking about Christmas presents so while I should be going to bed I’m now going to have to finish my Dutch. I’d much rather talk to ds1 of course but am now regretting my decision to leave the Dutch homework until this evening. I had a student this evening I’d forgotten was coming so that was an hour and a half out of my evening too.

Tada
Walked dog once (he is little and old so doesn’t mind only one walk)
Went to the chemist
Unloaded the d/w
Mostly loaded the d/w
Took the clothes off the clothes horse
Put on and out a load of washing
Shopping
Some of my Dutch homework

What I should have done
Rest of Dutch homework
Folded up the washing and put it away
Rest of dishes in d/w

To do tomorrow
Last two things on above list
Dutch lesson
Student
Stats lesson (self taught though)
Tap (as I’d like to go back for the first time since I fractured my ankle but I’m weeks behind with the routine of course)

I hope all goes well with the scan cag and hope tomorrow is a better day for everyone

Sludgecolours · 23/11/2017 23:36

Oh dear, that doesn't sound good at all Hills . Hope computer can be mended.

Cagliostro · 23/11/2017 23:38

Oh crikey I'm glad you mentioned that sc as I forgot about the fasting! I'll set an alarm on my phone now!

Bugger I really need to stop procrastinating about sorting my photos. My phone has been playing up big time (going to look for a cheapie replacement tomorrow) and all the photos have gone 😰 all the photos of baby! Thankfully I have uploaded the best ones on here, FB etc so they are not lost, but aaaargh 😰😰😰

Cagliostro · 23/11/2017 23:40

The procrastinating comment BTW is because I still need to sort all the photos from the old laptop, basically everything is on there and it barely holds a charge so need to just quickly upload them to google photos or something so at least they are not lost.

I hate technology sometimes

Sludgecolours · 23/11/2017 23:40

Xposts Longtime that is an incredibly good list! Hats off! And good luck with your Dutch presentation tomorrow!! Will be thinking of you!

Cag not Can !! Sorry just breaking in new tablet thing (bought earlier this week at Black Fri (full week) prices from Amazon Fr). I sat on my old one and broke it ....

Very wary of all the things Google ask you to sign up to nowadays when breaking in a new device. I hate technology too sometimes!!

Thanks sc but it seems rather pathetic. I keep getting distracted from plan for the day. I did have two students today - one during the day as well as the evening one but even so. Still not fo I shed my Dutch homework!

My presentation was last week. I was the first to do it (I volunteered as I hated being last all the time with a ‘w’ surname). It went ok I guess. We had to pick a contraversial subject so I chose euthanasia. It was going fine until the bit where I talked about my dad’s cancer and the execrutiating pain he’d been in. I didn’t think I’d get upset (otherwise I would never have put it in) but I did start to. I pulled it together but it was a bit difficult. Afterwards I was supposed to organise a quick question bit with a follow up,discussion but before I could get to my questions, one of the students started asking me questions and then others followed. That wasn’t really meant to happen. Then my third question was difficult to understand for those who hadn’t studied the topic so I had to scrap that question as explaining it was taking too long. So all in all it ended up being too long. I could see the teacher writing all the time which was offputting. Anyway it’s done which I’m glad about.

Sludgecolours · 23/11/2017 23:56

Not pathetic at all Longtime I really admire you for starting and sticking with it. I've been meaning to do it for years and haven't started!!

Sorry got wrong end of stick, I knew your presentation was last week but thought you had a more difficult one coming up. Sorry to hear it was so understandably stressful Flowers. I am sure the tutor will have been writing down only good things x

OP posts:
Longtime · 24/11/2017 00:50

I did have two - you remembered correctly but the easier one was a few weeks ago. Dutch homework finished now so I’m off to bed! I didn’t really need to put myself through it as my written Dutch is already ok but I need to improve my spoken Dutch oh and listening hence doing this module. I’m determined to stick at it!

Bowerbird5 · 24/11/2017 05:58

Sorry to hear about those feeling unwell. Cags I asked to see screen and they showed me. I was really worried as two chattering, looking at me then chatting quietly. I was pregnant and thought the news was going to be worse. When I asked they showed me. They said it was biggest they had seen hence first one getting second to come and have a look then they grabbed third walking through. So you might be lucky and find out. Full report then went to GP and I had to wait for ten months for op. Baby was about eight months when I went in and they had to laser big stone.
Hills hope everything ok now. Teen do seem to do daft things at times. Remind them when they are older they squirm with embarrassment.
Some great Ta Dahs. I didn't get anything done except making bed. I was late home, worked through break and lunch. Just heated it when bell rang. Couldn't leave as meeting in my room and my stuff in there. Had to get shopping for school after so late. Didn't get in until nearly 6pm but flood nearly gone. DH kindly made supper while I had a cup of tea and biscuit(s) and fell asleep cup in hand! Spent evening prepping stuff. Busy day today as doing someone else's job this morning including presentation to small group parents, which I have never done. Not sure how it will go as kids involved and not my subject.
Need to ice cake for tonight. Hope everyone has a good day. Esp. Hills after yesterday😖😤

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/11/2017 06:07

Have a good day people!!

Callmecordelia · 24/11/2017 06:30

Ta das from yesterday

Did a bit of Christmas shopping
Had a lovely coffee and cake with DS, he was completely back to his smiley self and charming everyone. He finished his course of antibiotics yesterday and I have my baby back.
Cleared up kitchen
Took DD to swimming and it wasn't too bad
Made good progress on her jumper with a beer watching Designated Survivor.

No real housework ta das there! I gave myself the day off. Was lovely. Smile

To do
Tidy up and make things look presentable, even if it means chucking stuff in the conservatory if I run out of time. My parents are babysitting this evening, and I don't want to come home and find my mother meaningfully cleaning the hob.

Hills that sounds awful.
Cag one of my anti procrastination things is sorting the photos. I have a stupidly high number of items to upload, mostly photos but also videos, knitting patterns, documents. They are moving from very expensive cloud storage to Google. I had two cameras stolen, with baby pictures. We lost the video DH took right after DD was born Sad. Best of luck for scan today.

Sludgecolours · 24/11/2017 08:45

Good morning all!

Great to hear your little one is feeling better CallmeCordelia! Hope you have a lovely evening out tonight!

Your working day sounds extremely demanding Bowerbird. Good luck with presentation today.

I would ask if I wanted to see the screen Cag, they can't object surely can they? Hope it goes well anyway!

Hills Brew

Waves to Zoo and to everyone else!

I am feeling wierdly flat atm but am determined to be productive this morning and try and sort the house out before it all goes to pot! Hope everyone has a good day!

That sounds miserable Hills Cake.

Hope you get to see the results or get them super quickly Cag.

Cagliostro · 24/11/2017 10:27

Morning all. Feel more human today just worn out really.

Bloody well done on presentation long that sounds really hard especially with that subject Thanks

Things like sawdust on my bed and spilled soap in the shopping would tip me over the edge too! Definitely haughty corner stuff.

Somehow didn't wake up for my alarm today and only ended up with 5 minutes to snaffle a cereal bar rather than anything proper. So am now hungry.

Place is such a mess. Everywhere. There is too much to do!
