If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine and Cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it November already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore the barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to the emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here!.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Help!!! Ddog has fleas! I wasn’t behind with his frontline so I don’t understand it! He’s only had them once before when he was very young (now 14.5) and it was my fault as I forgot his frontline. The amount of washing and treating I now have to do is humongous 😭😭😭

Longtime · 24/11/2017 13:24

So if any of you lovely ladies has a suggestion as to what to do, please could you tell me! Thank you 😩

Sludgecolours · 24/11/2017 14:40

Hi Longtime no experience of this (yet anyway!) but suggest type "dog has fleas" in Mumsnet search function and there are lots of relevant threads (sorry can't link where I am ATM on this device) Such a pain about all the washing! If no good, vet may be able to advise?

We had good success with a de-flea spray treatment when I was at uni. We didn't have any pets in the house at the time but it was a summer that the fleas were even in the grass outside. The spray killed the fleas in the soft furnishings and all sorts.

bower it was not ds last night Hmm

Sorry zoo going to have to ignore your instruction about the naughty corner.
Did some overtime at work this morning and it was perfect for giving my brain space from the issues here. Now off to speak to the garage...

Cagliostro · 24/11/2017 15:59

Doctor was actually super nice and explained everything. I do indeed have an inflamed gallbladder and a solitary stone! Have to speak to doctor as apparently they generally offer surgery after 3 attacks. One to go then. Hmm

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 24/11/2017 16:32

Very glad you got an answer Cag

Cagliostro · 24/11/2017 16:41

She was really lovely I didn't even have to ask! She just started asking about the pain etc and then told me what the scan showed. She also checked my uterus as I am bleeding more heavily again today. I swear I'm falling apart this baby has broken me!

Glad scan went well Cag although not nice at all to be left with inflamed gallbladder and waiting for next attack. Hope doc can advise satisfactorily anyway.

Zoo Dame here about Christmas! I love it normally but somehow could happily skip it this year! (If it weren't for dd that is.)

Feel like a fraudulent thread leader at the moment as had huge attack of the CBA's today. Started with determination but tedium got to me so went out for the afternoon instead.

ta da
deal with fall out from yesterday. Sulks truces and appologies.
book car into garage
sort arrangements for having no car
look at pumpkin that was supposed to be turned to soup, swear, and start making pumpkin pie
wonder if there is a food processor in storage and swear because have to tidy ds' room to access cupboard where it would be stored
tidy ds' room (gain best mum ever status for not making him do it)
cook roast dinner
Declutter a hoover
sort out the old unwanted stair gates for going
put a load of washing on
take tea out of the freezer for tomo

and although there is a whole heap more that needs to be doing I am calling quits and having an early night.

Sludgecolours · 24/11/2017 18:32

I find it hard to get into the christmas spirit until about the week before christmas, I am done with christmas before Jan 1st. It is usually the stress of preparations and organisation that makes it this so. Imo this is normal and as a result of being a grown up who can not rap themselves in the magic of christmas but has to deal with the reality of life and creating the christmas magic.. Another reason why it sucks to be an adult.
I think when the house is tidy, christmas baking is done then I will find it easier to relax. perhaps. maybe. Hmm

cag yay for diagnosis, boo for having to wait for another attack to get it sorted

Callmecordelia · 24/11/2017 18:40

Ta da
Tackled paperwork pile - all gone!
Got dry cleaning
Two loads of washing
Registered new appliances
Changed beds
Dishwasher

I did not get round to doing the hob. Have just got back. My mother has cleaned it.

Callmecordelia · 24/11/2017 18:46

Sorry, posted too soon. I'm pleased you had a good experience Cag. Hills early night well deserved!

Sludgecolours · 24/11/2017 20:45

The summary for Sat 25th is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 25 for Sat 25th is here. Reading Flylady testimonial gumph - meh - but it does emphasise that we will never ever achieve perfection and how it took Flylady seven months to develop her routines.

Saturday will be our last day in Zone 4 (if you do zone work at weekends that is): The Master Bedroom, Bath, Closet (November 19-25) : here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 4 (if you are at that stage) is here.

FYI we will be in Zone 5 next week: The Living Room, Den, Family Room (November 26-30)

No missions on Saturday because it is the weekend! Yay!

The daily focus for Saturday is family fun. (I am allowed to add a bitter laugh here?)

The monthly habit for November is menu planning here!

Flykid's challenge: here (hopefully continually renewing itself).

Daily reminders (which should also update themselves automatically)
here.

Holiday missions here!

Agree about Christmas Hills the magical bit was when it was all dropped in to your lap as a child and you had no idea about the hours of work that had gone in to the prep!

Smile CallmeCordelia at your mother's enthusiastic house-keeping Smile

Expansive wing flaps to everyone else. Hope links are correct because I downed two generous glasses of prosecco before posting (rather pathetically, that volume of alchohol is enough to do me in nowadays).

If I had Flown correctly this week then the boudoir would now be a clean and clear dust-free haven of spankingly fresh laundry and lavender scented pillows. Unfortunately, in reality, it is still a festering pit of despair Confused

I really wanted to be in the UK this weekend with my sisters for various reasons but can't for other various reasons. And to add to the fun of Friday night, dd is in a totally foul mood because apparently all adults are purposely doing everything to make her life as miserable as possible (apparently) added to which her evil mother made her clear the table after supper and she used all the printer paper which is outrageous because evil mothers by definition do not have anything worthy to print [sigh].

Zoo and Hills (and anyone else grappling with teen angst - Jellyfish?) this thread offers a bit of solace and light relief in the darkest of hours ... here. Even the "dear Parent" letter - albeit a bit cheesy - is comforting in a way. If all those parents are dealing with exactly the same issues - it shows we can't be totally crap parents doesn't it? [She types hopefully]?

Parents of young 'uns - respectfully suggest you do NOT read that thread - and treasure the golden years while you can (although I appreciate the golden years are different for everyone of course!).

Waves to all Have a good weekend as humanly possible lovely fledglings!

Evening all. No flying here. I feel like all I'm doing is waiting to be in pain again. I sort of am, as the fibromyalgia type pain seems to be back now. Excellent. Feel totally out of it - keep making stupid mistakes like walking into the road :( FFS. It's ok to be a hermit at 1 month postpartum right?! It's starting to feel like the safest option all round.

I have achieved, errrm well I have spent lots of money online for Christmas instead of doing the necessary job of ordering a new phone (because that means making decisions and getting used to a new phone... ie CHANGE!!!). Oh and one thing I am quite proud of, I did a neat ballet bun which I just realised DD may have gone to sleep in while on a very bumpy bus so that's something right?

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/11/2017 23:48

cag well done with the bun!!
sc that thread needs to go to classics!!perked me up knowing i not only one treated like halfwit and confronted endless in a minutes....
Thank you for sharing thatFlowers

Sludgecolours · 25/11/2017 06:49

Good morning all!

Cag yay to ballet bun and of course you are allowed to be a hermit one month post partum! (As I think I said, I barely left the house for the first two months of dd's life and you have been doing way better than that!). Please take it steady; you have loads to deal with what with fibro, post-partum bleeding, gallbladder issues - and that is in addition to the "ordinary" strains of bf and broken nights - have an official "exemption from Flying certificate" here!!

Indeed Zoo its reassuring isn't it? When things are particularly bad here, I am going to keep looking at that thread to keep the old spirits up!

So much to do today - and none of it is anything I want to be doing - but had better get on with it!

Have a good Saturday everyone!

😤😷👿 just went to scroll back my post because I thought it was too long and it refreshed page and I lost the lot.
Shortened version. Hillssorry thought you in A&E with DS so also gremlins arrived when you were out? DD or DH? I have worked with quite a few aspies so commiserations.
cags at least you have diagnosis now. Hope not too long. Will Caglitini take a bottle as might be wise to train now if breastfeeding as might involve over night stay. Should be keyhole.
No ta dahs at home for me except I brought fish and chips home DH thought that was a Ta Dah!

Today's plan
Was not to wake up at 6:30am! Make bed.
Go to Country Living Fair in Glasgow. Do most of Christmas shopping there...hope not too expensive. I went a few years ago and it was a lovely day out.i think I deserve one this week. I have only had lunch break once all week and that was a third of break. I can't keep this up.

To do

Mum offered last night to do DD's termly topic project with her today at their house. All previous worthy plans abandoned as we move heaven and earth for this to happen. I dislike the termly arty project more than almost anything else.
Clean kitchen
Start writing Christmas cards
Make salads that the children won't eat for lunch tomorrow
Put washing on

I have needed three cups of tea to get myself going this morning. DS up since 5:30. I'm not going to even look at that teen thread, we had some lovely squishy cuddles this morning.
