If you are strugging with C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) and S.T.U.F.F. (something that undermines family fun) then this is the thread where we (loosely) follow the step-by-step Flylady housekeeping system (in our own, unique, relaxed style) with lots of chat, support and Wine and Cake along the way.

This is where, from the first of the month (seriously, HOW is it November already?!), we follow – loosely – the rules of FlyLady [see website here ]. (Pls ignore the barftastic language, and we suggest NOT signing up to the emails as there are rather a lot of them. All the info you need will be posted here on a daily basis.)

Helpful info on getting started here!.

We adopt a three-pronged approach:

-start or repeat baby steps

  • repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone or area (yes, just 15 mins focused work a day makes a difference!)

and/or

  • reinforce babysteps and do daily missions if you have finished decluttering.

[And if you are really enthusiastic and have finished decluttering - you can go on to detailed deep cleaning in each zone.]

NB
This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees not only welcome to join in but positively encouraged to do so!

Another NB
Start where you are. There is no need to worry about being perfect – perfectionism = paralysis! There is no such thing as ‘falling behind’ with FlyLady, if you miss anything, just move on and continue as normal the next day.

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

So it turns out if you want bread to rise you need to remember to add the yeast. WHo knew?! Blush

I am too tired. But there is so much that HAS to be done tonight before I can go to bed. Might have to try to have a lazy napping kinda day off tomo.

SC just skip the budget nonsense that shit ain't gonna do anyone's blood pressures any favours...

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 22/11/2017 20:34

Hello all. Hope weather not too awful for anyone.

Welcome ponzusoup.

Glad you are feeling a tiny bit better SC. I can do links tomorrow if you need it.

Bower, I love that you are so lovely to mums arriving late with babies Grin.

Ta da:-
Laundry in progress
All stuff in dishwasher put through again as hadn’t washed properly
DH cooking tea

To do:-
Eat!
Dishwasher
Iron on a Brownie thing
Send a work email
Phone / text my brother - I suspect he will ring as soon as I sit down to eat
Quick calendar check
Other things that I know I wrote down on the list but can’t think of right now.

Rosabellajames · 22/11/2017 20:46

Popping in to say hi, not much flying done today. Dd2 was up most of the night again, I think she’s learning something new, it always seems to disturb her sleep. Trying to keep the basic routines going but no decluttering or organising, very frustrating with December being so busy.

I’m ironing the uniforms then off to bed in an attempt to rest for an hour before the night shift startsSmile.

Bowerbird5 · 22/11/2017 23:00

Never mind Rosa dust will be there another day but babies grow so quick. Try the 5 minute busters it worked for me today and if I am watching something I go in the ads and see how much I can get done in the time at a frenzied pace. Can sometimes load the dishwasher.

Well the good news was the road was cleared by tonight and the police have opened the other one which meant I could pick DH up from the station otherwise he would have had to sleep in town. Luckily I have two sons in two houses there so he was bound to cadge a bed somewhere. Bad news is it hasn't stopped raining since 5:30! Plan is if I can't get to work then to sit and do all the school work I need to get done. If not I am minus one child tomorrow😢 so I could use that time for notes and lunchtime because no one is scheduled to come then. I can't keep up with it all just now but going to chunk it this week. Glad I didn't through some of my kids stuff away as they have come in very handy this week for Reception.
I didn't bother washing the floor because of the weather but I think I got nearly everything done on my list. I made a gorgeous stew too. Love the slow cooker, ironing is all done including today's washing. 😋smug face and three loads of washing. No sign of any more mice but will suggest DH tidies cupboard under sink while I am at work😬 I feel relaxed and refreshed though that might have something to do with theWine doubt I will get much done tomorrow. Will have to leave earlier in case I have to test all routes out of village.
Have you tried spraying lavender in your bedroom sludge. It helps me a little. I hate those 3-4 day heads. Hope you feel better soon.

Sludgecolours · 23/11/2017 06:36

Well done Bowerbird5

Hello all - new to this but thought I’d join so I can start or else I shall put it off to do tomorrow / never do it

Sludgecolours · 23/11/2017 07:02

Oops - posted too soon!

Sounds like a haven of domestic goddessness at yours what with the washing, ironing and lovely stew Bowerbird5! Good luck with your journey in to work.

Lavender sounds lovely too but boudoir needs more drastic intervention sadly! (Path clearing machine? Smile)

Agree that one can get a surprising amount done during ad breaks!!

Hope you survived night shift Rosa Brew

Thank you so much Toostressy but I should be ok to do links tonight; woke in night with power drill through skull again but feel ok this morning thankfully!

A very warm welcome to Ponzusoup!

Bathroom budget has indeed already been exceeded Hills; renovation work is horribly horribly expensive over here, the pice of materials and labor is shocking! Take care driving in hairy weather today (if not hibernating) Wink!

Longtime meant to say; thank you so much for yr v kind offer of a warm shower down thread! Much appreciated but installing shower room in addition to main bathroom - so after 15 yrs- we can finally shower and go to loo on same floor on which we sleep - and don't have to treck up and down the stairs in the night!!

Hope your DD2 getting better Zoo

Take it steady Cag! Flowers Bear

Well done re: cleaning condenser unit of td CallmeCordelia and roast sounds yummy!

Will try and catch up with everyone as day goes on.

Take care in the wild weather fledglings!

FlyingJellyfishInTheAttic · 23/11/2017 13:42

How is everyone doing? House fsllen to wayside as other stuff came up but hoping to get back on track this week.

Plan tomorrow is to finish catch up clean downstairs then Monday catch up clean upstairs. Next week is to organise what furniture where then December is declutter.

Cagliostro · 23/11/2017 13:46

Yep been writing everything down. No obvious triggers as I've played it safe and this one started several hours after eating unlike the first one. So maybe it's more of a cumulative thing? At least the scan is tomorrow so hopefully I will know for sure if it's gallstones or something else. It's faded enough to cope now thanks to more painkillers, hot water bottles and several hours using my TENS machine!

Cagliostro · 23/11/2017 13:49

I have been reading a bit/talking to lots of people and apparently the jury is now out about what to actually eat/not eat, some now advise that it's not necessarily fat that causes attacks and that you should just avoid whatever causes you bother personally (some people even mentioned salad being a trigger as it's hard to digest?!) and some even say diet makes no difference if it's that bad anyway. Gah. Oh well 25 hours not that I'm counting and I will at least know one way or the other. I'm not entirely convinced it's not kidney related as still getting UTI symptoms (tests were clear) which the doctor said can be a factor.

foxessocks · 23/11/2017 16:42

cag poor you I hope you're okay

sorry everyone is having such a rubbish time of it.

Ta das
decluttered bedside table in bedroom
cleaned skirting boards in bedroom
bought birthday presents ready for party at the weekend
dh has hoovered
dinner is in the oven (beef casserole tonight)
swish and swipe toilet
daily routine
emptied and reloaded dishwasher
meal plan for next week sorted

to do
make mashed potatoes to go with dinner

Sludgecolours · 23/11/2017 19:53

Good evening/bonsoir/goeie avond everyone!

Cag Wishing you the very best of luck with the scan tomorrow. I hope it proves useful in sorting out a clear path to recovery. It's awful worrying after every meal that you might have an adverse reaction.

Congrats on an excellent lists Foxes and Rosa!!

I've fallen behind too FlyingJellyfish but hope to get back on track tomorrow so will be with you in spirit.

Hope ds ok Hills and that you are able to relax a little.

Heartfelt but somewhat weary wing flaps to everyone else. Again, sorry not to have caught up with the thread in detail. Felt considerably better today but seemed to be overcome by some sort of dreadful torpor. Rallied myself this evening to sort supper, empty dw, and iron sports kit, but apart from that have done nothing but sleep.

Dh very very stressed by office events and as usual we have about 3 conflicting events this weekend and next but I don't want to attend any of them - want to visit uk instead - a wee bit fed up of expat life atm.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/11/2017 20:26

Hello all, sorry to hear so many of us struggling Flowers.

Am not really feeling it tonight. Bit of a rubbish day, nothing major but both DDs challenging (DD2 particularly so), discovered leaking spare bottle of soap in airing cupboard so soapy mess was everywhere (thankfully at bottom of airing cupboard), those kinds of things.

Thankfully DH made tea while I did bedtime. Going to load dishwasher, collapse and hope for better day tomorrow.

Glad you are getting your scan tomorrow Cag, just a cautionary note that you may not get the results tomorrow unless they have told you that you will (sorry if that sounds patronising, hesitated whether to post it).

Cagliostro · 23/11/2017 21:07

Not patronising at all! Thanks I wasn't sure, it's some external company that I keep seeing around at the doctors ("diagnostic world") so not sure what that means. I guess they may not even let me see the screen :( it was referred as an urgent scan though so hopefully that means they would also send the results through to the GP urgently?! Anyway it's a step forward either way I guess.

I have been lurking on the sofa this evening and managed a nap. House is in such a state at the moment :(
