Fledglings Fly back to school & work, September 2017, decluttering along the way ...

Sandycarrots · 31/08/2017 17:17

Hello, it's time to brush the sand off our feet, empty out the suitcases, sharpen our pencils, polish our lace-up shoes, and get stuck in to the September 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

Fly stands for Finally Loving Yourself (cheesy but there is merit to it). The general idea is that short bursts of tidying / organisation are more achievable than marathon efforts. Flylady advises 15 minute bursts of effort but you can tweak this to fit your own circumstances.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

More info available here, here and here.

Your choice whether or not you sign up to the Flylady e-mails, but we advise caution as there are lots of them!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

A busy day then cag

Cagliostro · 14/09/2017 07:01

Bacon and eggs is precisely my plan for breakfast 😀 No bread though 😇 😭 (God that's a first world problem right there isn't it? I need to just get on with it without whinging sorry)

I'd thought DH was going to be home when we got in from Badgers tonight but it's from next week his Thursday shift is changing. Will shove something in the oven for the Caglets I think as I can eat while they're at their club.

I had come up with that weekday post club meal plan but will have to jig it about so that either I just do it for the Caglets or adjust mine slightly so I can have it. Although cauliflower cheese must be relatively ok (barely any flour in the sauce)?! And bolognese sauce is really nice on avocado instead of pasta although I will miss pasta like crazy or I may treat myself to some courgetti :o

Wondering if I can sneak in a nap before I need to leave at 10.30...

foxessocks · 14/09/2017 07:19

Morning all! sc whata day you had yesterday , hope today goes more smoothly.

I hear ds waking up so just whizzing through. He has slept until now but he did wake in the night which was totally my fault...bad mother I forgot to put him in his sleeping bag and he had no blanket or anything so he woke up at 2am cold SadBlush I'm honesty more forgetful than I've ever been in my life!

Cagliostro · 14/09/2017 07:21

Ah foxes these things happen especially with baby brain!

SC hope today is better!

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/09/2017 08:07

cag you can use potato peeler on carrots/courgettes to make thicker strips if you can be bothered.its pita but ive done it for dd2.used shredded lightly cooked cabbage in place of pasta in bolognese.and grated cauli is cauliflower"rice".just cook in a frypan touch oil or nuke in microwave to soften a bit
(Apologies i try tell you someyhing already kniw.not try be patronizing)
Tadas
Zoolets fed n watered
Pack ups made
Breakfast cleared away/washed up n put away
Wipe bath n sink
Chivvy ds so he has everything needs and hes just left with dd2(walk tog end rd n she shes him over as its a weird roundabout layout and hes still working in going out alone/not super road confident)

I am already tiredSad

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 14/09/2017 08:09

I stick bolognase sauce on cauli and brocc as I don't eat pasta. I have treated myself to 1 bag of wheat free pasta, but it sits in the allergy specific cupboard lost and lonely until I get that fuck it I craaaaaaaaave pasta feeling that usual hits at around midnight.
You can make cauli rice. If you haven't already Cag get thee over to the Bootcamp topic and check the recipe thread(s) there are loads of ideas for low camp. Also if there is a new bootcamp starting you will get support over there. They are generally lovely.

My leg has gone to sleep and i need to move and rescue things from the car. Ds appears to need encouraging this morning (although he did go to bed at an almost reasonable time) but he is exausted from the other night. I had a good night's sleep but it was not enough to start to catch up on missing sleep. A nap is already tempting. How the fuck I used to do the 4am starts I have no idea!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 14/09/2017 08:10

Ah cross posts with Zoo Grin

Sandycarrots · 14/09/2017 09:15

Morning all!

Grrrr ....not happy with my two this morning. Investigated fire in oven and it turns out that dh had made himself and a colleague cooked breakfast at lunch time yesterday Confused while I was out (while the cat's away eh?) and because he was rushing, he splashed grease (and I mean a lot) all over the oven floor and it somehow went under the base tray thing. I could cry because it was cleaned during the holidays (not by me) but it was so lovely to have it all shiny and now it's ruined less than two weeks later!

Then dd goes and breaks my brand new electronic toothbrush this morning by being totally cavalier with it. Combined with the "coincidence" that when I want to use kitchen or loo paper, there is somehow "always" an empty cardboard roll sitting there, when I want to put something in bin or recycling, it is always over-flowing, when I want to feed the dog, his bowl "always" needs washing i.e. everyone just leaves "that particular thing" until I do something about it. When I want to put the washing in, no one has bothered to put their dirty linen in the laundry basket, so I have to go hunting around the house for it. And in dd's case, it's up three very long flights of stairs (despite the system in place to avoid this) and then she complains because her jeans aren't washed! Arrrrrggggggggggghhhhhhhhhhh!

I know, I know, these are mys job because I am the one most at home. And these are all very first world problems. But when I was at school/working full time, I somehow managed to change the f*ing loo roll!! Angry

Right, having ranted (for which I apologise) I am now off to do some angry cleaning!

Ta da:
animals
walk furry
stack dw
first day of diet - boiled eggs for breakfast
plead with ailing wm to just creak one more load around
dining room table hot spot
cleaned kitchen surfaces

To do: last night's list + some other stuff

Have a good day everyone!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 14/09/2017 09:20

these are my jobs because I am most at home Angry this does not excuse people from basic housekeeping things. It is not a lot to put laundry in a basket, it is not a lot to put a toilet roll on a hook. IMHO you have every right to be Angry

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 14/09/2017 09:21

Oh and it is a particular rant here too. So I understand the frustration.

Cagliostro · 14/09/2017 09:22

Not patronising at all, very useful! I know you can buy that stuff but it probably has a short shelf life as well as being pricey. I started a thread yesterday on the bootcamp board :)

Breakfast was yum, but time consuming compared to my usual cereal! Another list needing to be written I think, what food is actually good. Need to get some shopping tomorrow anyway as we require a picnic for our great-nephew's birthday party on Saturday.

So much to do tomorrow. Always the way when DH has a day off. Sports club started again this week (a home ed group that's like PE lessons, DH runs it) which is great for money (and social/exercise for the Caglets) but it takes so much time and I feel like there's only a tiny amount of days off left really. I was thinking about seeing if he can get some annual leave ASAP but quite reasonably he's saving as much as possible for after the birth.

Cagliostro · 14/09/2017 09:31

I totally agree about those jobs. I would make just one change ASAP - if it ain't in the basket it ain't getting washed. Your DD is absolutely old enough for this rule (I am even thinking of doing it for the Caglets as DD has started having particular favourites she wants to wear all the time) and DH most definitely is!!!

People often recommend it on here and I think it's a great idea, why do they get to complain they don't have their favourite socks if they have just left them on the floor in the bathroom?

I'm no saint BTW and we are still all getting to grips with consistent laundry hamper use - hence it being specifically listed on the morning jobs list for the Caglets - but it should not be left to you alone and it is completely fair to raise your expectations on this. You're not even asking them to do their own laundry, just to put dirty clothes in the right place.

Sandycarrots · 14/09/2017 09:34

Thank you Einstein! That cheers me up no end! Smile It sounds silly, but it makes you feel like you are invisible or something. Sorry you are experiencing similar issues.

Cag healthy recipes here but not all necessarily low-carb. However, low carb high protein bread and sweet potato toast recipes might be of use.

I only recently discovered roasted cauliflower and it is lovely! And agree with Zoo about courgette strips - actually think it improves the flavour serving it that way - this sort of thing.

Hope it goes ok at clinic today Cag

Not surprised you are tired after that lot Zoo I am only just getting started this morning! (Still recovering from yesterday.)

Waves to Foxes and to everyone else!

Sandycarrots · 14/09/2017 09:40

x post Cag yes you are absolutely right about the washing thing. I'm not consistent about following it through because dd was consistent for quite a while wrt to filling laundry hamper etc but she has stopped it again recently. Will have to be stricter. It's just that she has been so much better in other ways recently that I suppose I didn't want to rock the boat. Will have to hoik bosoms in true Les Dawson style and be a bit firmer about it Grin

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/09/2017 09:44

Our boiler stopped working a few days ago and now I have to clear a room of doom for an estimate (the futility area) Sad

It is also a bit cold and I have been eating croissants at an unsustainable pace

Stilllivinginazoo · 14/09/2017 11:54

Meeting a friend to chat whilst shop.i am fed up of the amount shop i do.zoolets are eating machines.maybe its time i surrender to dragging old lady trolley which i am fighting to the bitter end.downward slope from trolley to a blue rinse

foxessocks · 14/09/2017 12:18

I love cauliflower rice with Thai green curry (zoo I have a feeling you gave me that recipe idea it was definitely someone on MN!) . I do cheat and buy the ready made microwave bags of it though!

sc I agree you have every right to be angry and I think I'd be making my dh clean the oven if he did that- work or no work!!

Ta das
Emptied all the bins
Went to post office for dh
Bought pull ups
Put dishwasher on

Just about to finish daily routine and am hoping ds has a nice long sleep this afternoon...

Cagliostro · 14/09/2017 19:14

Evening all!

Clinic was good, and DS behaved beautifully as well so that was great (DD was at a workshop). I now have my own blood sugar test kit and my left hand feels a little like a pin cushion!

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 14/09/2017 19:21

Soooo today I looked at my to do list and said fuckit. Fuck the whole lot of it. And took a sloth in a comfy chair in front of the tv. I am already tucked up in bed. It won't be long before I am asleep. Ds has done his home work, taken his sleep med and is chilling out in his room with some tv and lego. Hopefully he will head to bed on time as he is stupid tired.
