Cleaning thread?

Kim82 · 17/08/2017 09:59

Do we have a daily cleaning thread running at the moment? I used to be on one a while ago which really helped me keep on top of all the housework so I'm wondering if anybody fancies starting it up again? We used to write a list of all chores that needed doing that day then tick them off as we did them. Seeing other people being productive spurred me on to get my jobs done instead of sitting playing on my phone instead. Is anybody up for that?

I am!! my place is a complete mess at the mo, which is ironic seeing as I clean for a living Blush So I was going to get in the bath and then get on with all that needs to be done, I have a major issue though, my hoover is full and the pipe is blocked Sad so I can't hoover currently. I plan on starting in the kitchen though, How about you?

Kim82 · 17/08/2017 10:14

Oh yay, a cleaning buddy! So far I have stripped my bed and put the covers in the washer. I then sat on the sofa, still not dressed playing on my phone...

Okay, what I need to get done today is:

Feed the cats
Load dishwasher and then it on
Handwash stuff that can't go in the dishwasher
Hoover upstairs (including the stairs)
Clean out the cat's litter tray
Dust the living room
Hoover and mop downstairs
Make lasagne for tomorrow's tea
Clean the downstairs toilet
Remake my bed
Go to the shop for some veg for tea
Sort out car insurance
Pick up uniform order from Tesco

I think that will do for now, especially as I have the 4 dc at home all day and my sister and niece are coming round too. I'm going to get off my backside and jump in the shower, get the 3 year old washed and dressed then get started.

MusicToMyEars800 · 17/08/2017 10:34

I am still not dressed, but have a bath waiting for me to jump into:
So far today I have, unloaded the washing machine and hung it to dry and put another load on.

Put washing up in the bowl to soak, I don't own a dishwasher, wish I did though.

still to do:
Wash up, dry it and put it away.
sort, fold and put away the mountain of clothes in my bedroom.
Bleach and scrub the bathroom
Clean the kitchen, including washing down the whole table and chairs.
Clean the oven I hate doing the oven.
Sort and organise the cupboard of doom.

Oooh I would be interested in joining!

I have noticed a big difference in my mood between when my house is messy and when it's clean and tidy.

I feel so much more focussed and happy when everything is nice.

I need to :

  • have lunch and go for a walk with DD *put a load of washing on *sweep the floors *make dinner for today and tomorrow. *tidy guest bedroom And entertain guests this evening

( I have been cleaning all week ahead of the guests coming to stay lol)

MusicToMyEars800 · 17/08/2017 10:38

At least you haven't got too much to do Member Smile The annoying thing for me is I am bloody brilliant at cleaning and when I am doing it for work or if it's someone else's house I can make it gleam.... but my place is another story! I definitely feel much better when everything is clean and tidy though, so I know what you mean.

Afreshstartplease · 17/08/2017 10:42

I think I was on the thread with you op!

I'm not on the fly lady thread but I don't fly. I flop and moan about my lack of sleep

MusicToMyEars800 · 17/08/2017 13:19

Afresh Me too Grin
Right I've had a bath, dried my stupidly long hair and got dressed,
Cleaned half of the kitchen and put yet another load from my never ending washing on, Now having a coffee break this is where my downfall lies

Kim82 · 17/08/2017 17:58

My day got waylaid going visiting my mum so I haven't managed to get all my list done. So far I have:

Feed the cats done
Load dishwasher and then it on done, I've also emptied it and started re-loading again
Handwash stuff that can't go in the dishwasher done
Hoover upstairs (including the stairs) need to do the stairs
Clean out the cat's litter tray done
Dust the living room
Hoover and mop downstairs
Make lasagne for tomorrow's tea
Clean the downstairs toilet
Remake my bed done
Go to the shop for some veg for tea done
Sort out car insurance done
Pick up uniform order from Tesco

I'll clean the bathroom in a minute, make the lasagne then after I've bathed the 3 year old and put her to bed I'll do the floors downstairs.

So my guests didn't stick to the time scheduled and I had to abandon the cleaning for the day and had to entertain them instead.

musictomyears I can also relate to your dilema of being very good at helping others clear up their homes but not my own. I always end up doing th garden for my parents yet my own is a tip :)

kim you sound like you to lots done today well done ! WineStar

dibdobs · 18/08/2017 08:00

Music I feel better now thanks! I'm a housekeeper ironed etc yet my own house is awful! I have three lazy boys that do nothing to help as well! Yesterday I left work early and as the boys were all out for once ( hate cleaning if someone else is at home as get constantly interrupted) I did the lounge dining room and loo, today after work I need
To do the kitchen gulp . I admit I emailed an ironing service yesterday and they are taking six hours of ironing for me!! Last resort but I e too much to do, other people's homes though I leave looking great !

Kim82 · 18/08/2017 08:18

Morning everyone, I gave up after I did the downstairs bathroom last night, I just really wasn't in the mood so I played board games with two of the dc instead. I'm regretting it now though as it means more work today...

I'm working at 12.30 today and have a friend round tonight so I need to get everything done this morning. Today's list is:

  • Hoover the stairs
  • male lasagne for tea
  • sweep and mop downstairs
  • load dishwasher
  • feed cats
  • empty cat litter
  • clean upstairs bathroom
  • dust living room
  • go to the shop for milk (just realised we have none)

I'm behind already today though as everyone decided to have a little lie in and we've only just got up, I'm going to have a quick cup of tea, get myself and the 3 year old dressed, take her to nursery and then get started.

Almost done:

  • Hoover the stairs done
  • make lasagne for tea made bolognese instead as I didn't have any lasagne sheets
  • sweep and mop downstairs done
  • load dishwasher done
  • feed cats done
  • empty cat litter done
  • clean upstairs bathroom
  • dust living room done
  • go to the shop for milk (just realised we have none) done

I'll have to leave the bathroom til later as I'm due at work in 40 mins. Just need to make my lunch, iron my clothes, quick shower then I'll go. Hope everyone else has a good day.

Gosh everyone's been busy, I didn't get much done at all yesterday Blush I've been at work today so was cleaning for 6 1/2 hrs straight, did 3 apartments 2 1 beds and one 2 bed which was absolutely disgusting took 3 hrs with me and the cleaner they had to call in to help me to do it, honestly some people are just absolutely filthy arseholes, just because they don't have to clean it!! anyway excuse my rant, when I got home I:
Washed up
Bleached the bathroom
tidied up
put a wash on..

Still to do: tomorrow though.
Go and buy some lightbulbs so I can sort the cupboard of doom
Clean the oven ( still haven't done it yet )
bleach the floors
Pull the fridge out so I can empty it and clean inside it.
Take all the rubbish out to the bins ( I live in an old converted flat, that I hate ) I can't wait to move back into a house.

Bazzinga · 20/08/2017 10:02

Hi. I need a kick up the bum today. I have a decent routine going but fell off the wagon yesterday so here goes.

Make beds
Empty dishwasher
Reload dishwasher
Empty dishwasher Grin
Laundry load
Peg out washing
Clean cats bowl
Clean birds
Sweep kitchen floor
Polish living room
Hoover living room
Get washing in
Put washing away
Take stuff from bottom of stairs upstairs and put away
Prep dinner
Kitchen after dinner
Bath kids
Prep for return to nurseries tomorrow! Two 9am school runs! Arghh

Afreshstartplease · 20/08/2017 10:04

I've not really been posting on here but have been reading. Post regularly on the fly thread although don't fly lol. Cannot decide if to post on both or not. Really I'm just repeating myself and using up the cleaning time aren't I!?

Kim82 · 20/08/2017 10:15

Procrastination at its best eh AFresh Grin

I didn't need to do much yesterday so didn't post but today it's built up a bit so my list is:

  • washing washer on but will need to do at least one more load
  • fold and put away clean washing
  • load dishwasher
  • wipe down kitchen worktops and kitchen table*
  • clean out fridge
  • write weekly meal plan
  • go food shopping
  • iron work clothes
  • buy birthday card for dd1 and draw out money to put into it
  • dust bedrooms

That'll do for now, quick brew then I'll get showered and dressed and make a start. I only got up 10 mins ago so I'm still half asleep yet.

OP posts:
Bazzinga · 20/08/2017 11:20

Thanks Fresh for the kick. Im cracking on between brews and nappies!
Kim it's amazing how one 'day off' can build up isn't it!!

Kim82 · 20/08/2017 11:27

It does build up really quickly Bazzinga, depressingly so!

I'm showered, dressed and have made a start but will have to stop for an hour or so as dh's friend is here doing something to one of our doors and the 3 year old is being clingy today so wants either me or dh with her at all times. It's an excuse for cuddles on the sofa for a bit though so I'm not complaining!

  • washing one load hung out to dry, second load in the washer
  • fold and put away clean washing
  • load dishwasher done
  • wipe down kitchen worktops and kitchen table done
  • clean out fridge
  • write weekly meal plan
  • go food shopping
  • iron work clothes hung out to dry so can't do yet
  • buy birthday card for dd1 and draw out money to put into it
  • dust bedrooms
OP posts:
BewilderedBeaver · 20/08/2017 12:22

Can I join?

So far today I have prepped dinner which is now in the oven.
Quick tidy round everywhere
Emptied dishwasher

Still need to
Clean out chickens
Clean out guinea pig hutches x 3
Walk dogs
Put bread maker on
Put a load of washing on
Put clean washing away
Sort kitchen after dinner

That will probably do for today. I'm trying to get into better routines and habits to keep on top of things.

PinkSquash · 20/08/2017 15:14

I'm in work til 4 today but I have my letting agent coming round on Tuesday to do an inspection so I have to pretty much clean everything today as I'm working tomorrow. Eek.

Kim82 · 20/08/2017 15:27

My whole list has been abandoned. Dh has set fire to the kitchen cooking lunch so we've farmed the dc out and will be spending the rest of the day trying to do some damage limitation and clean up as much smoke damaged things as we can before ringing the insurance company tomorrow. Angry
