Fledglings cocoon, we're Flying in June ... .

Welcome to the June 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

I don't use that page tbh, so hadn't realised that it still said May - I wondered why you could see May when I could see June Smile I think I've got the dates in the Cozi calendar/app if you want them. It's an online app (which I have just downloaded to my Kindle now I've remembered about it) but it automatically loads the zones and missions if you want it to although I can't remember how I set this up now!

The missions do change from month to month IIRC.

BluePheasant · 05/06/2017 22:50

Washing machine has not stopped all day but I think I am winning! For bonus points, I tidied up my underwear drawer and chucked out a couple of old bras. Also found that about a quarter of the drawer was actually being taken up by nursing bras and left over breast pads...DD turns 4 this weekend ffs! Confused

Had lovely holiday thank you sc, we went for an family wedding; location definitely wouldn't have been our choice for a holiday but was a nice hotel with great pool for the children and we hired a car to see some nicer areas so I think it turned out better than we expected! Smile

Not had chance to check flylady yet, prob will have to pick it up again next week. Hoping to finally get the carpet fitted on fri and get house clean and tidy in time for DDs birthday on Sunday...when it will inevitably return to chaos and the whole process will need to be repeated...remind me again why we bother? ConfusedGrin

Going to catch up on thread a bit then bedtime for me. Sleep well all Smile

Afreshstartplease · 06/06/2017 06:25

Morning all Brew

We are all back to work / school today which will probably be a shock to the system

Up at 530 with DC4 but all I've managed so far is a brew, fed DC4 and switched on the dryer

Yawn.

Cagliostro · 06/06/2017 07:53

Morning all. Horrible weather here, DH had to cancel his lesson (he runs an outdoor thing). But quietly pleased myself as we get him to ourselves before he goes to work!

Got pupils today and need to clear up this morning. Then have a group thing this afternoon and need to visit the library before hand and I totally can't be bothered with any of it. Still so tired. But also want to get back to some form of normal.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 06/06/2017 09:19

Ta da
washing machine on a cleaning cycle.
currently waiting for my clothes to dry and hoping the dryer hasn't also died because the washing machine is on its last legs...

Sanscollier · 06/06/2017 10:01

Morning all Brew

Thank you Cotswold >"The missions do change from month to month IIRC." That's what I thought!! I've checked my word docs from May and the kitchen missions are exactly the same as last month which is a bit strange don't you think?

Do you think there is something funny going on with this month? Cozi calendar/app thing sounds a bit beyond me; if you happen to have a moment and it's easy to do so (please don't trouble yourself if not) would you mind checking that the same missions are appearing on the app as on the Flylady home page please? I'm bemused! Confused

Strong brews Brew Brew to Afreshstart and to Cag

Bluepheasant congrats on laundry fest and bra flinging Star

Hope the white goods hang on in there Einstein

Bit cream crackered. Mahoosive storm in night. Lots of sirens blaring. Woken at 3.30 am, 4.45 am and approx 5.30 am by bits falling off the house by which time dh was getting up to leave so decided might as well stay up.

Ta da:
animals (rabbit eye drops)
dd sandwiches
ironed uniform and gym kit
polished dd shoes
made dd pancakes (got grunted at in response Hmm)
drove dd to school
dog walk 1 on way home (furry ears blowing in the wind Grin)
hung up overnight washing
re-fed wms and dw
s& s
dining room table hot spots

About to start office work an hour late ....hope everyone has a good day! Wish me luck, I'm editing a document that has been written supposedly in English by five separate people in different "tones" ranging from inappropriately casual language to a laboriously complex over-written translation of the original French, and it is doing my head in frankly. Would be easier to scrub the whole thing and start from the beginning but that would cause even more difficulties I think.

Right, tempted to pair socks or count onions or do anything other than face it; but had better get cracking I think!

Have a good day everyone!

Oh what the %é¨"éè§(&

Sorry but no wonder Flylady couldn't run a home; she certainly can't run a website Grin Grin

I have e-mailed The Purple Winged One and explained the problem.

I don't expect to receive a reply.

Wierd that the website seems to be stagnating ... . Perhaps they are about to change it?

Or perhaps Flylady is otherwise engaged, sitting in her walk-in closet, counting her many pairs of lace-up shoes, or perhaps she has succumbed to sink polish vapour ... .

Confused

Anyway, that was 10 mins procrastination well spent Blush Grin

OP posts:
TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/06/2017 10:59

SC Grin. Hopefully Flylady is ok and, as you say, just counting her lace up shoes.

Struggling to get going this morning. Both DDs played up last night and although they have been ok this morning I feel I really need to sort their behaviour- where to start?????! Have any of you ever done a bit of a behaviour crack down? Any joy?

It's raining here and DD1 has gone to school in wholly unsuitable shoes. I didn't realise she had them on until too late so feel bad about that.

Ta da:-
Most of morning routine

To do:-
Laundry
Decluttering - have told DD2 she needs to help me go through some clothes
DD2 wants to make spaghetti bolognase - at least it is a variation on her usual chilli Smile
School run with suitable shoes
Figure out a behaviour management system that doesn't involve pissing about with stickers. We have marbles but think I need more.
Figure out how to do healthy snacks after school
Work out the meaning of life.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 06/06/2017 18:05

It has been a problem in the past when they have been doing admin/work on the site. It went twee that way a while back when they changed/ updated the layout and we gained things like the launch pad.
Shit day
shit mood
Shit headache
fuck it all I am going for ice cream....

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/06/2017 18:38

Well if I tell you all that both DDs are in bed it gives you an idea of the afternoon I've had. Today was fine but it all went wrong after the school run. Can't even have Wine as we have none and DH on call anyway. Ugh.

On the plus side have done about 20 mins paper decluttering today.

To do:-
Amazon order
Revision for a work course

foxessocks · 06/06/2017 18:38

Yep we definitely did these missions last month because my cutlery drawer is still pretty tidy!! Good excuse not to do it Grin

Ta das
Declutter in kitchen
Cooked dinner and tidied up
Tidied living room
Daily routine

To do
More ironing (I am concentrating on ironing this week as desperately trying to get on top of it- only problem is this means other things like dusting, bed sheet changing, mirror polishing are all being ignored...how do people do it all!!? Confused)

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/06/2017 18:39

foxes, I have no bloody idea. Have been searching old threads on here for tips for tidy houses and decluttering!

Cagliostro · 06/06/2017 18:48

I don't feel like mine will ever improve! I ended up stash and dashing a bit this morning before pupils arrived :( and then I was not as prepared for the lesson as I should be. Facepalm

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/06/2017 18:49

shit day, shit mood, shit headache.fuck it all I am going for the ice cream

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/06/2017 18:51

X post ladies
Meet you in naughty corner
Snack and drinks of choice waiting!!

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/06/2017 18:55

My thoughts by mr alien
Do I go to area 51?
How was my civilisation begun?
Am I green?do I eat?
Have I 8enormous feet?
Is my spaceship eight metres high?
Do I destroy things as I fly by?
Can I breathe earths polluted air?
Do you even really care?

Actually I can take your form
Pass as human.act the norm
Attend your schools,have a job
Walk our dog(who's name is Bob)y my people live their lives without wars
I wish your planet could lose these flaws
I came here to learn, that such is true
But do I really want to end up like you?

Stilllivinginazoo · 06/06/2017 18:57

Sorry if that's classed as bragging.after the rough few days we've had fighting nice to share something positive about my child!

foxessocks · 06/06/2017 19:23

zoo that poem is absolutely fab!! I really love it!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/06/2017 19:27

zoo, how amazing!!

Both DC now awake Brew

Cagliostro · 06/06/2017 19:37

That's an awesome poem! Makes a great point too.

mermaidsandunicorns · 06/06/2017 20:07

Evening all

Work day today am exhausted but I have an exciting interview tonight as I applied to stand on our town council but the interview isn't til 9.30pm Hmm

I'm expecting to see the whole chamber dressed in robes with goats heads and lit candles making me take part in an initiation ceremony

mermaidsandunicorns · 06/06/2017 20:09

Not unlike this

Fledglings cocoon, we're Flying in June ... .
CotswoldStrife · 06/06/2017 21:41

That poem scans better than most, well done that girl Grin

Stressy, I am not sure why your DH being on call prevents you drinking wine because there is no 'we' in 'wine' Hmm Wink

I will check the Cozi missions, but I'm sure they are the same as the ones we have now.

mermaids I feel that the council be a slight disappointment to you judging by your expectations but hey, that is a late appointment so I'll be checking the thread frequently tomorrow for an update hopeful

Some flying news - I actually got a bag of clothes out of the house to the chazzer today - yay! Unfortunately, I came out clutching yet another book and a craft item Blush

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 06/06/2017 21:54

Ha, Cotswold, you win some, you lose some with the charity shop Smile. I think the bag of clothes must outweigh the purchases. Also love how friendly this bread is that the last bit of your post is the flying news. Yes, I do occasionally drink when DH is on call but try to be nice out of solidarity. Also we had no wine Grin.

Mermaids, please come back and tell us that they all dressed like that. It will cheer me right up.

Ta da:-
Evening routine
Some semblance of getting stuff ready for tomorrow
Amazon order

To do:-
Declutter some paperwork in front of the telly.

mermaidsandunicorns · 06/06/2017 22:07

There was no coven sadly
The mayor was wearing her chain tho
However all twelve of them were sat round and all of them asked me questions. In my post work and being interviewed at 9.30pm state I forgot to prepare for the classic "do you want to ask us anything" and I found myself asking "do you enjoy your job" which they said was a really good question so I might have blagged it!
I should find out tomorrow
