Welcome to the June 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Morning all. It's been an exhausting week in work due to to the heat (it was 35 in my classroom at one point) and I'm most definitely in the naughty corner as far as housework goes. It's just been keeping my head above water. Last weekend's mega batch cook was great and made eating so much easier.

My sunburn had calmed down but now I'm peeling. It's really grim!

Crisis cleaning today with so much to do I think I'm just going room by room rather than making a big list. If you don't hear from me I've been eaten by a giant washing pile monster...

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 24/06/2017 12:43

I am trying to drag my sorry ass out of the naughty corner. Insomnia has kicked my motivation and energy into hibernation Hmm

Stilllivinginazoo · 24/06/2017 12:47

What is this thing you call motivation Einstein?!

Sat on my arse watching Kitts explore front room.at present they are colliding with furniture...at 235. The vet will be taking stitches out and collars off then the fun will really start(gulps)

mermaidsandunicorns · 24/06/2017 18:36

I've discovered how to control the wifi through my router

I should now see a massive reduction in meltdowns as roblox is the cause of a lot of them

Basic flying done today will do more tomorrow

Sanscollier · 24/06/2017 19:14

Hi all - bit frantic here so posting and running - hope everyone ok!!

The summary for Sunday 25th June is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 25 for Sun 25th is here. A bit of a mish-mash about not allowing yourself to be a perfectionist, how it takes a few months to establish routines and consistency being key.

Sunday will be our first day in Zone 5 (if you do zone work at weekends that is!) : The Living Room, Den, Family Room (June 25-30) here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 5 (if you are at that stage) is here.

No mission on Sunday because it is the weekend.

The daily focus for Sunday is renewing your spirit do something for yourself that makes you feel relaxed!

The monthly habit in June is drinking water.

ds was astounded that once he put away a small pile of laundry and picked up a few things he was allowed ice cream. Shock because apparently I demand the earth and am never happy might be because I have just threatened to dump anything left in the lounge by him on his bed washing up included!

Motivation - get really really angry and do angry cleaning... or at least that is the only way I have managed it.

ta da
pull both sofa's out and clear the crap from under them
ditto re arm chair
rehoover car mats that are waiting for me to hoover my car so they can be returned Hmm
take ds out for tv watching munching treats
hoover windowsil
remove clutter from windowsil
finish loading dishwasher and put on to run
wash some of the pot
make a batch of dropscone mix and leave to 'cure'
hoover down the trampoline (mini one) that lives behind the sofa
wash ds' bedding
fall out with ds over his stuff being left - particularly rubbish, school stuff and washing up.

Still got loads to do as I have an evil fat hairy jumping spider that likes to try to sit on people in my room and I want to get rid of it, but that means emptying and removing the bottom shelf of the bookcase Hmm Unsurprisingly ds has decline to help me achieve this goal. His words: your room, your spider, your problem. Hope you don't wake up with it in your bed.
Seriously considering pinching his bed as pay back for that mental image AngryHmm

Does the peppermint oil thing really work? seriously considering bug bombing this house when I have reduced the clutter a bit more!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 24/06/2017 20:27

Hello all. Flowers Afresh, as I think I said on here, I reduced my hours to two days a week at the beginning of this year as I was really struggling and that is only with 2 DC.

Very mixed day today with some lovely times with DCs and inlaws but both DDs playing up a lot by bedtime and have just been despatched to bed.

Taking 5 minutes to hide upstairs before I get on with things.

For those asking about motivation - I cannot claim to have any answers but have had some success with decluttering in front of the telly if it is something I really want to watch. Downsides of that are the decluttering is not as productive as without telly and also I miss out on sleep to do it.

Must read some more of parenting book tonight as things very heavy going at the moment Sad. Plus may be seeing my parents next weekend and that is usually a disaster.

Sanscollier · 25/06/2017 07:42

Morning all from motorway service station! En route to intercept dd's cycling group (RC youth group) and deliver our part of the day's supplies! Up at crack of sparrows making picnic. Not exactly a restful Sunday morning but it was our turn and it blows the cobwebs away! Furry excited at the prospect of a beach walk later on! Big waves to all!

Cagliostro · 25/06/2017 08:01

Morning everyone :) DD had a lovely birthday. My day not so great due to bully's mum ranting at me Hmm but hey ho DD is blissfully unaware and actually her day was uninvaded by anxiety for once. Off to town today I think.

Hoping we can achieve more next week but it's a busy one and DH is back to work on Thursday. There's already stuff on the living room table 😱😂 we ended up playing the games on the floor anyway as there were 8 of us and only 4 chairs. Anyway hoping that since the immediate issue of needing the living room sorted is over, we can do some of the proper decluttering tasks. I feel like we've achieved sod all TBH, we have barely been at home, so much for a week off!

Rosabellajames · 25/06/2017 09:34

morning!

Glad your daughter had a fab birthday cag bitesize decluttering will soon mount up, a little every day.

Didn't get much done yesterday - we spent all day at the bmx track, I was totally unprepared and I've burnt to a crisp - I can't remember the last time I got sunburn, but I now no why I'm usually so so cautious in the sun! Luckily I had enough sense to borrow suncream off someone for the kids, but forgot about myself (I was covered so didn't think much to it) but it got my ears, shoulder and back of my neck, ouch!!

Today, dd is in London for a workshop, ds is at a football tournament, so I'm taking dd2 to a farmpark with a friend.

Revisiting the routine this morning because I fallen off track!!
ta da
everyone washed, dressed, fed and out of the door on time
beds made
s&s

to do
too much

Achievements for last week :
bag for charity
bag of clothes given away
2 pedal bin liners of rubbish out of the bedroom
8 - yes 8 pedal bin liners of dd2 clothes sorted into sizes and half of them photographed and popped onto selling sites

Bedroom still seems like a tip, but now listed what has come out of there, it definitely must be better than last Sunday!!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 25/06/2017 11:42

Happy birthday to your DD Cag!

Ouch Rosa, hope you feel better soon.

Later:-

fall asleep in arm chair

all i want to do is tea and bed to sleep Hmm guess the insomnia has caught up with me then HmmHmm

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 25/06/2017 20:08

Ta da:-
Inlaws have gone - some stressful moments at times - DD2 had to be taken home early from soft play - but in general some good times and was nice to see them. So so different from my feelings at seeing my own parents Sad. I suspect our ears should be burning though as they discuss our parenting on the way home but they are brilliant about just letting us get on with it while they are here.

Laundry on line
Kids nearly in bed although not convinced DD2 is especially tired. Seriously debating starting a thread about how to tire kids out but worried I might get flamed Grin!
Taken some clothes out of my bit of wardrobe to organise them. DD1 found an old bag of mine she wanted but managed to convince her to declutter some toy hairbrushes to make room so counting that as a win.

Had family meeting about the 123 magic behaviour plan. Everyone is on the same page for at least tonight so we will see how things go!

To do:-
Get DDs to sleep
Go through some more clothes
Before bed routine
Drink wine

zoo, if your cat eats spiders that is ace!

Rosabellajames · 25/06/2017 21:53

Another 2 bags of clothes taken to the local recycling bins today. Clothes and toys are the things that make the house look super cluttered. Also, I know someone that's having a girl, so tomorrow I'm going to rinse through a pink playmat and give it to her on Tuesday and she's asked me to send her photos of all the clothes.

This week, I'm going to really concentrate on getting the playroom surfaces cleared and selling / donating some toys. Still need to catch up on the basics, but if I'm not caught up by Wednesday, I'll use that hour to catch up. I do feel like the daily stuff is descending into chaos again, I forgot how stressful it was when things don't run smoothly!!

CotswoldStrife · 25/06/2017 23:56

Belated birthday wishes to your DD Cag Cake

Tiring children out - it's not cheap, but trampoline parks are a clear winner for me in this category. Especially good the night before events your child finds stressful, such as starting a new year in school. Although this may be because my DD is old enough to go in on her own so possibly not as effective with toddlers where you have to bounce too

Woke up early today after a late night. Eaten way too much sugar to get through the day. Bring on the sleep.

Sanscollier · 26/06/2017 01:40

Hi all, hope everyone ok!

Belated happy returns to your dd Cag

Very long day here (only just ending now!) so just posting links and will catch up tomorrow!

The summary for Monday 26th June is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 26 for Mon 26th is here. A bit of a waffly one but important nonetheless. It's about it taking a month to establish a habit, about not giving up if we miss a day, rejecting perfectionism and knowing that we are never behind and should just jump in where we are at!

We are in Zone 5 this week : The Living Room, Den, Family Room (June 25-30) here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 5 (if you are at that stage) is here.

Monday's mission is here. Put out major hot-spots in your sitting room. Newcomers this explains the definition of a hot spot.

The daily focus for Monday is what what we call the home bleugh ten minutes spent on each of seven essential tasks; done together or spread out through the week. The consensus is that it takes longer than that though!

The monthly habit in June is drinking water.

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Have a productive start to the week everyone!

Morning all

Ty to everyone who has agreed my dropping hours at work is a good idea! I emailed my boss yesterday so will see what is said.

Baby ds teething and up at 430

Yawn

Managed to go to bed with no pots left out last night which is a good achievement. We are due to move in two and a half weeks and I haven't packed anything yet. I don't know where to start because we will use most things in those two weeks

Ta Da

Dryer on

Cagliostro · 26/06/2017 06:34

Morning all. Can't get back to sleep because Today Is The Day. Autism assessment for DS and possible diagnosis for both Caglets! Although TBH I suspect it's more likely they will say 'not enough evidence yet' - she agrees there is something going on but it's literally a case of whether they've scored enough points on the test!

Afreshstartplease · 26/06/2017 06:45

Fingers crossed you get a diagnosis cag! If not at least you will be one step closer.

Ta Da

Dryer emptied and clothes away
Dryer reloaded
Washer on
Recycling out
Highchair scrubbed
