Fledglings cocoon, we're Flying in June ... .

Welcome to the June 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions

And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

I think I'm just going to be sitting permanently in the naughty corner!

Dd has friends over this evening for her 18th birthday (which is next Wednesday) and we are banished to the bedroom. Dh is already asleep so I'm in dd's room and therefore cannot do anything about the house! I did tidy and vacuum, load and empty both the dishwasher and washing machine during the day but I had my last tap class plus a lunch with the tappers and then a student so that was about the extent of it. It is still so hot here but with the window open I can feel it's cooling a bit so maybe I will feel more in the mood tomorrow. I can imagine it will necessary after this evening!

CotswoldStrife · 22/06/2017 23:38

Evening, I am hidden under cushions in the naughty/haughty corner drinking Gin tonight!

SC I thought of you when I heard about that attack. DD is excited about going to a concert soon, I was telling her we would have a great time even if it rained and she said 'or if there are bombs'. I grew up in the era of the IRA's mainland campaign and have had bag searches and building evacuations at the same age, but it is a bit heart-wrenching to hear her say it.

Lots of faffing but not much flying. Weather good for drying laundry, as all clothes have heavy coating of building dust from bathroom refit which included more bodging that I would have liked so the bedroom zone looks worse than it did at the start of the week, tbh!

I am looking forward to a cooler better night's sleep anyway and it's almost the weekend so cheers to that!

Longtime · 22/06/2017 23:46

That's sad Cotswold. We went to see Coldplay in Brussels last night and to be honest I was more concerned in the packed metro on the way there and the enormous amount of people waiting to get on the metro on the way home than at the concert itself. The security was very strict. Sad that it has to be that way though.

Hi all,

I am a little bemused.

This thread seems to have dropped off my "threads I am on" list and isn't appearing under Housekeeping.

Had to do a search for it!

Is anyone else experiencing the same difficulties? Does anyone understand why it might be happening?

Cagliostro · 23/06/2017 13:36

Damn just lost my post 😡 But no sc this thread was still on my I'm On list

Good day so far, lovely sports club sessions while I sat with a friend and a hot chocolate :o

DH has taken DD to town for a quick errand or two, but when they get back we've agreed to some hard graft for a few hours before ballet. Then I'm off for dinner with friends and I can't wait :o (even if I can't partake of cocktails)

So I've stuck a wash on and now wondering what else I can start with before the others get home.

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 23/06/2017 13:38

sorry Sc no idea unless you are on the mobile app? techs seem to have been tweaking in recent weeks and it has caused various problems.

ta da
ds to school
back to sleep

just woken up and feel more human. ish HmmGrin

CotswoldStrife · 23/06/2017 14:13

I can still see it SC, have just PM'd you with a link to it in case it vanishes again!

Been out shopping this morning, DD very excited about the upcoming concert!

Better get some flying done tonight though ...

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 23/06/2017 15:27

Have you hidden it by mistake? If you go into Customise then there is a Hidden Threads section at the bottom of the screen where you can unhide them.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 23/06/2017 16:15

Not sure either SC, I don't use the app but can see it on TIO on the mobile site.

Am on an extra study day at work today so no flying but DH is at home and in laws arriving later so hopefully one of those will do some!

To do:-
Read parenting book!

Cagliostro · 23/06/2017 16:17

Stairs are clear, hoovered and no longer a death trap.

TABLE IS CLEAR

Got some other toys sorted and a whole bin bag of bedding thrown away so far.

The spare bedding I've chosen for us is in the wash, when it's dry I'm going to put it all in one pillowcase and then I'm going to hang the pillowcase up. I realised there's so much wasted hanging space in our wardrobe and it stops the bedding taking up shelf space. I'm feeling smug. :o

Sanscollier · 23/06/2017 16:28

Thank you for your replies everyone! Very kind of you! I am a total twonk and managed to "hide" the thread without realising I had done it!
Blush Blush

Busy day here but will be back later to catch up with everyone!

**

The summary for Saturday 24th June is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no. 24 for Saturday 24th June is the all-important swish and swipe.

Tomorrow will be our last day in Zone 4 (if you do zone work at weekends that is!) : The Master Bedroom, Bath, Closet (June 18-24) here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 4 (if you are at that stage) is here.

F.y.i. we will be in Zone 5 next week: The Living Room, Den, Family Room (June 24-30).

No mission on Saturday because it is the weekend.

The daily focus for Saturday is family fun.

The monthly habit in June is drinking water.

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Enjoy your weekends everyone (and the cooler weather!)

Evening all. We were meant to be going out tonight but we are all too shattered! DD has spent most of the afternoon spark out on the sofa with the furry in a post-exam adrenaline slump!

Toostressy hope in-law visit enjoyable and not too stressful!

Hope dd2 ok Rosa and that you got through your list ok! Also, hope meal planning going well!

Cotswold and Longtime it certainly is a sad world when thinking about bombs is automatic when heading out to a concert Sad

Cotswold poor you having to deal with building dust!

Longtime hope your dd enjoyed her 18th!! (And you survived the sleepover!)

Expansive wing flaps to Whoknows Einstein Honu Greymalkin Afreshstart Purpledaisies Mercury Mumontherun Foxes Mermaids and anyone else I have forgotten!

Afreshstartplease · 24/06/2017 07:22

Morning all

Think my house has reached an all time low

I have decided I need to reduce my hours at work as I am just not managing kids/work/house very well so I will be discussing this with my employer soon

Cagliostro · 24/06/2017 07:24

Morning folks :) it's nice to see the living room tidier, long way to go still but it's an improvement. DD's birthday today (10!!!) and she woke up at 5. I may require a nap later! Dinner last night was great, nice to have fun with friends :)

Cagliostro · 24/06/2017 07:28

That is a good idea afresh anything that makes life easier is a must I think. We are hoping once paternity leave is over DH can find a new job because his current hours are just making family life really difficult.

Afreshstartplease · 24/06/2017 08:09

At the moment I am tired grumpy snappy mummy, I have no time to do things with the DC, my house is a tip and it's just not nice for anyone. Thing is we pay out so much financially for childcare me going part time actually means we have more money after bills!

Anyway. Back to the point of the thread!

Literally every surface is covered in crap. When I got up this morning both kitchen bins were overflowing and the table had been dumped on so much I had to clear one side for dd to have breakfast! There are many pots to wash, stacks of washing, pets to clean out, everywhere needs hoovering and mopping, surfaces need cleaning, bathrooms need deep cleaning, clean clothes need putting away, oven needs cleaning

The list is endless

Ta da

Dryer emptied (on to floor)
Dryer reloaded
Washer reloaded
Two bins emptied
Sink filled
