Welcome to the May 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions
And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

MercuryRising · 01/05/2017 19:43

Foxes and Zoo it sounds like you are both having a tricky time. Fingers crossed your dc settle soon.

I spent the afternoon washing, making beds, supervising the older 2 dc tidying their rooms and hoovering upstairs. I did however manage some gardening and met a friend for coffee with ds2 which was nice. The house actually feels calm for the first time in a couple of weeks, it is amazing the difference a bit of flying can make.

foxessocks · 01/05/2017 20:20

zoo your GP would see you for that I would hope, hope you get it sorted. We tried ds in the car seat rocking with foot but it didn't work, I fed him again and he finally fell asleep.

Mercury my house has felt so much calmer since I started flying. For all I moan about not getting everything I want done and house never being as tidy as I want it is actually totally different to how it used to be because of the routines I have in place now. Most of the time I start a new day with a fairly tidy house which is really nice.

Finally sitting with a cuppa and a biscuit in peace with all 3 kids in bed woohoo!!

Ta da
Coats & shoes
Entrance 15 mins decluttered ( still needs a bit of attention tomorrow)
Yummy roast dinner
Uniforms ironed
Stuff ready for tomorrow
Showered

Didn't manage to do mirrors, mop floors or do the bookcase but there's always tomorrow!

Going to look at the evening routine which I haven't looked at yet and look at tomorrow's so im prepared .

Rosabellajames · 01/05/2017 22:16

Is the idea that the whole of zone 1 is decluttered, or once the entrance is sorted, clean it, then move onto decluttering the dining room ?

Zoflorabore · 01/05/2017 22:54

Hellooooo i so need this thread.

Place marking until the morning and will read properly Smile

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 01/05/2017 23:13

Evening all,

Sorry to read about non-sleeping or poorly DCs. Mine are older so I don't really remember what worked sleepwise now.

Been to the allotment this morning and took DCs to a funfair locally this afternoon. DS cooked dinner (pizza) which was nice. Homework supervision not so nice however.

Tada!
3xlaundry washed, dried, ironed where applicable and given back to owners
Summer school uniform got out from storage
Our bed changed
Bit of dusting, bit of tidying
Watched snooker

Slurrycart · 01/05/2017 23:59

A warm welcome to Zoflorabore!

Rosabella it is really up to you depending on level of clutter and how you want to tackle things but I think (and I hope other fledglings will correct me if I am wrong) that the idea is that the whole of Zone 1 is decluttered first, and then you tackle the cleaning. And don't worry - it doesn't matter if you don't understand the system in its entirety at the beginning - all will become clear as you keep repeating baby-steps and routines etc. And I think the idea is that the more you declutter, the quicker and more efficient the cleaning bit becomes! Good luck!

Sorry for lack of further personals but just turning off computer on my way to bed. Have only just stopped doing chores: hung up last load of washing (3 done today) cleaned down kitchen, emptied and filled dw, shined sink, put away cooking for tomorrow in fridge/ cake tin, sorted dining room table hots pots. Have also put overnight washing on and done rubbish and recycling and ironed 2 x sets uniforms, 1 x gym kit + paired socks and folded towels and underwear.

Bit miffed because I have also just spent the last hour sorting through all the papers, forms, permission slips, reports etc etc that I have been nagging dd about for the last three weeks (and about which teachers + admin staff have been contacting me through the school Internet portal thing Blush. Found them all (eventually) on her desk and in her school bag (didn't like intruding but have been asking nicely for weeks - and then asked a bit more forcefully - all to no avail)! Unfortunately I also found undone hwk, a few (possibly?) forged signatures (unless dh was drunk when he wrote them!! Grin) and a load of unfiled and disorganised work [anger]. I think we are going to have stern words in the morning ... [sigh] and [double sigh]

And just posting links for tomorrow here for a second time (as they appear quite a long way down the thread now). G'night all!

***

The summary for Tuesday 2nd May (available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan, which should update daily, can be found here ).

Baby-step no 2 for Tuesday 2nd May is here. It's the controversial one about getting dressed and doing make-up/hair and putting on lace up shoes as soon as you get up in the morning. Some of us do and some of us don't but newcomers, here is the reasoning behind it.

We will be working in Zone 1 this week (April 30 - May 6): The Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering in the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 1 is here.

Tuesday's mission is here. Sweep porch, shake out doormats, wipe down front door.

The daily focus for Tuesday is planning ... menus, hair appts, medical appts, holidays, holiday childcare etc etc.

The monthly habit for May is moving in May! .

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Have a good evening everyone!

sc apologies my wayward phone perfectly aware you have dd not ds!!Blush

Rosabellajames · 02/05/2017 06:48

Morning , thanks for the advice! Oh was really impressed with the entrance yesterday and couldn't believe a short amount of time could make such a difference! I'll start tackling the dining room clutter today - I have an 'extra' cupboard in there that was in the living , full of paperwork that need rifling through, once it's finished, the cupboard is going to my brother who has been nagging me for it since Christmas Blush . The wiping the front door task today - I can't remember the last time I wiped my front door (hangs head in shame)

Slurrycart · 02/05/2017 07:18

Don't worry Rosabella not can I!! Blush Smile

Thanks Zoo rather surprisingly, DD was very grateful this morning for all the paper sorting and form filling and accepted two day phone ban with equanimity so tin hat not needed after all! (Will be five day ban if she can't explain dodgy signatures, but decided to leave that discussion for tonight!)

Hope non-sleeping infants were more cooperative last night, and that ailing ones are feeling s bit better.

I've woken up with remnants of dh virus (sore throat, headache etc) but am off to hospital appt which should take up large chunk of day - not a partic fun day ahead! bbl tonight!

Have a productive planning day everyone!

OP posts:
foxessocks · 02/05/2017 07:21

Rosa don't worry, I've been doing fly lady for about 9 months and I STILL haven't ever wiped my front door!! And worse still we got a new front door just before Christmas and I told myself I would definitely wipe it down to keep it looking nice. Nope. Still not done it. Blush and it was the mission yesterday but I didn't get round to it!

As for decluttering / detailed clean in zone one I declutter porch mainly as I don't really have a dining room just a table in the living room and it isn't cluttered at the moment!

Morning zoo! Ds up twice last night and dd was up twice too as she has a cough and was asking for water . But I do feel a bit more positive today. New day and all that. Hope you get to the gp today if still required.

Ds got up at 6.30 so I made a coffee thinking he was up for the day and now he has zonked out on my bed . Still I'll just enjoy the peace and quiet for a while I think.

foxessocks · 02/05/2017 07:22

Cross post SC morning! Hope all goes ok today.

foxessocks · 02/05/2017 07:26

Oh I didn't miss the door wiping mission it's today!! No excuse then...

To do
Wipe down front door
hoover porch
Declutter in porch
Exercise (just 5 mins as did a lot of walking yesterday)
Make dentist appointment in spirit of planning day!
Ring beautician to ask if they mind me turning up to eyebrow wax with two small children in tow as babysitter fell through...
Dust bedroom furniture
Ironing
Daily routine

Desperately trying to get on top of ironing pile but it just isn't happening!

Sorry I'm thread hogging this morning. I'll just leave this here for everyone Brew

Slurrycart · 02/05/2017 07:28

Thanks. Foxes enjoy the peace and quiet (as long as it lasts) and hope your DS feels better soon! You are being v stalwart after so many broken nights! Brew
