Welcome to the May 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions
And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Oh dear everyone, the broken nights sound really really hard going Brew Cake Gin

Not as bad as you lot because I had a good night's sleep but feel rough today with virus thing. Dh has kindly done morning routine (sort of) and dog walk 1.

Not going to post a list but boudoir/home office are in pitiful state again (you can't see the floor sort of pitiful state Blush) and desperately need sorting before someone breaks their neck trying to gate vault over boxes. Linen for weekend family bed making also needs sorting. As do veggie supper and weekend soup. Might bake a lemon drizzle too. 2 hrs office admin for dh. Loads of on-line parcel returns to sort out. Same old, same old.

Have a good day everyone!

PurpleDaisies · 04/05/2017 18:21

You miss four days and there are six pages to catch up on! Thanks for the new thread.

I'm just knackered after work at the moment and seriously busy with family things in my supposedly free time. I need to get back on the horse and start sorting the house again, and not let everyone else on the thread's hard work make me feel guilty.

Annoyingly I've now got to do my self assessment tax return or I'll stay on the emergency code which is taking a huge chunk of my wages. That's not a job I wanted to sort out now with so much else on.

Anyone have gin?

Clawhammer · 04/05/2017 19:06

Hello, I'm not a regular but I just wanted to pop on and say thank you! You've all inspired me to do some 15min stints of "crisis cleaning" today and I feel so much better for it.

If nothing else I'm going to try to reinstate my "home blessing hour" weekly - I'm a seriously lightweight Flyer Grin but it's better than nothing, hey?

Cagliostro · 04/05/2017 19:15

Anything is better than nothing, that's the rule! :o

The summary for Friday 5th May (available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan, which should update daily, can be found here) .

Baby-step no 5 for Friday 5th is here. Bit of a waffly one about banishing negative voices, but underlying message is sound!

Newcomers: if you are interested - the Flylady website has finally caught up with the month of May [sigh] and you can now look at how this month's zones will pan out here. It's a fairly similar pattern each month, but usually we only have two or three days in Zone 1.

We are working in Zone 1 this week (April 30 - May 6): the Entrance, Front Porch and Dining Room here.

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list (if you are at that stage) for Zone 1 is here.

Friday's mission is here.

Wipe down the tops, sides and legs of your dining room table and chairs (kitchen table if not) then pretty it up with tablecloth/flowers/candles etc.

The daily focus for Friday is cleaning our purses, handbags, cars.

The monthly habit is moving in May!

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Keep going everyone! Even 5 mins spent doing a chore, is better than nowt!

Morning routine

CotswoldStrife · 05/05/2017 12:32

I will do the links until further notice, take some time to get yourself better SC

My DD has been ill all week (although she is OK in herself) and after a number of telephone conversations with the GP surgery (more than one doctor and not an actual appointment where she has been seen FFS) they have agreed to refer her on for a few minor tests/follow-ups. Have spent far too much time this week chasing up other people and things [mad] House in need of serious enforcement. Have done lots of laundry but this has meant the ironing pile reaching new record levels Grin

Will pay a bill, make some lunch and BRB to catch up on the thread properly!

Slurrycart · 05/05/2017 13:26

Thank you very very much Cotswold will be back asap.

Sorry to hear your DD is unwell; hope tests reveal what's wrong.

The Dettol is out and dd and I are camped around the nearest bathroom suffering at different ends (sorry tmi). Joy. Confused

foxessocks · 05/05/2017 16:20

Hi all, not kept up with everything very well due to sleep deprivation and very miserable baby. However today has been much better, bad nights sleep again but ds is happy again and has has decent naps today, hoorah!
