Welcome to the May 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions
And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Cagliostro · 21/05/2017 10:21

And thank you Thanks

Slurrycart · 21/05/2017 10:28

Great list there Grey! The thread isn't the same without a few current and impending Fly babies Grin

Sorry to hear about your dh's grandma. Dh's late father had the same thing and it is indeed a very, very cruel disease Sad.

Inspired by Afreshstart's sterling determination and grit when feeling like sh*t, I have done the following:

Ta da:
"encouraged" dd to do hwk
spoke to dh about budgeting - we have a 30% contingency on wreck2 renovation and half of it has just gone thanks to a collapsing wall, plus work will now continue well in to summer holiday, heigh ho
emptied dw
filled dw
emptied recycling bins for tomorrow
bleached recycling bins
dining room table hot spots
wiped down kitchen surfaces and sinks
stopped furry from chasing a cat

To do:
now need to carry down laundry and get the uniform wash on (really late with this, normally do it Fri)
first need to deal with whatever is lurking in wms and td
then need to tackle calendar/9 week school holiday organisation/annual visits from rellies [sigh]

At least it's lovely and sunny so should be able to hang washing out.

Waves to Cag and everyone else! [leaves croissant and hot coffee on recovery cabin/naughty corner bar]

Cagliostro · 21/05/2017 11:30

Mmmm croissants. I haven't eaten anything yet as I had a bite of banana and it tasted Wrong :o FFS.

Managed a bit of financial admin stuff though. DH has got on with the laundry. I feel bad as that's normally my domain (he does pretty much everything else) but I'm not even up to that at the moment! Doctors tomorrow hopefully, need to see if I can do anything about the cough

Slurrycart · 21/05/2017 13:37

Sorry you are still feeling rough Cag. And yes, sorry, meant croissants plural of course!

Ta da cont'd/... (Still inspired by Afreshstart):
dd school shoes polished
school uniform washed and hung up
another load of washing hung up on terrace
one load in td
towels and pants folded
dd hair plaited badly

Right have one hour of peace while dh takes dd to maths tutor and back and goes to office in middle.

Will tackle calendar ...

I've had a fun and useful day. I taught Sunday school this morning and went for a Caffè Nero lunch with dh. He stayed and read the paper while I did a bit of shopping, including buying a new work dress from warehouse £49 reduced to £12. It's a clash black shift with dandelions.

The summary for Monday 22nd is available on the Flylady website here under "Today" and via the flight plan which should update itself automatically on a daily basis.

Baby-step no 22 for Sun 22nd is about building a control journal. Some of us have - some of us haven't - entirely up to you!

We will be in Zone 4 this week : The Master Bedroom, Bath, Closet (May 21-27) here .

Spend 15 mins decluttering the current zone.

When you have finished decluttering, the detailed cleaning list for Zone 4 (if you are at that stage) is here.

Monday's mission is: here. Spend 15 mins removing things from under your bed. If you have nothing under your bed, use the time to hoover and get rid of any lurking dust bunnies.

The daily focus for Monday is (unfortunately! Grin) the home bleugh. Spend 10 mins on each of seven essential tasks (or spread 'em out throughout week).

NB For those of you with questions about the home blessing hour: here are some (supposed!) answers: here and here. Apparently Flylady gets around the 10 min bed-making by each family member doing their own! Doesn't really mention dc under bed-making age of course!

The monthly habit is moving in May!.

Daily reminders (which should also update automatically) are here.

Have a productive week (as humanly possible anyway!) everyone!

*

G'night all! Catch up properly in the morning!

Good morning all! Another lovely day here!

Me too Zoo I always dread boudoir week! Hope you and your dd2 managed a bit of sleep!

Should have said; there were some good lists happening yesterday!

Toostressy oh dear about nits! Well done for moving in May!

Purple nowt like the threat of impending guests to motivate one to clean! Grin

Einstein sympathies re teen disputes,. DD decided to tell me last night before bed that it would be my fault entirely if she fails French apparently because, dh and I, having spent almost an entire weekend nagging her about hwk as well as chauffeuring/hosting her friends/prioritising her activities, failed to remind her about one specific grammar exercise (which was written in her agenda which she didn't look at) and which she hadn't mentioned in about a month Confused but it's all my fault so there (large weary sigh). I was not particularly amused but managed to hold my tongue last night, will do so again this morning, but words will be said this pm!

Afreshstart how are you this morning?

To do:
Tidy up after weekend
Carry on with holiday dates
Website copy-editing
Boudoir, boudoir, boudoir
Meal planning
Quick supermarket run
Carry on with laundry

Have a good day everyone!
