Welcome to the May 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions
And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

I'm having posting problems which is really annoying. I'd written something long but basically I've had a good day with a lot of sorting in my room at work. Not so much sorting at home but hey ho. It's all progress..

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 18/05/2017 22:26

I can't post on mobile version on my phone, lots of threads about it.

Sorry to hear about your Aunt SC Flowers. I agree about slowing down and focussing, I've started some CBT for anxiety recently and the therapist keeps reminding me to be mindful and stop multi-tasking all the time MNing on phone mostly.

Happy birthday for tomorrow to your DH Foxes

Today has been quite hectic, school, work, visit to podiatrist about foot pains, shopping, homework for DCs, rain, rain and more rain. Flying wise the second load of washing is on, the steam cleaner has been put away and the vacuuming done. Oh and I did some random dusting this morning.

BusyBee2017 · 18/05/2017 22:42

Slurry so sorry to hear about your Aunt... hope she is not in too much pain

Good morning Zoo and everyone else!!

[Looks to check lone Chinese man has gone overnight, which he has Grin!]

Hopefully Mumsnet Towers will have ironed out any glitches in the system today!

You sound really busy Whoknows as ever. That makes very good sense about the mindfulness.

Whoknows/Foxes/Busybee thank you for the kind words about my aunt. She is 96yrs old and told one of my sisters four years ago that "she had had a good life and was ready to go" so in a way I am happy for her; but of course very sad too because she has such a huge character (a very life affirming person [smile) and played such a significant part in our childhood.

Purple Flying at work deffo counts! Smile Star

Foxes happy birthday to your dh! Hope you both have a lovely weekend!

I am currently trying to finish off the bathroom missions before the cleaner arrives and then I am going to try and spend (in un-Fly-lady-manner) 3 hrs in the boudoir and home office in addition to 3 hrs or so "work" work. Also, fridge is nearly bare again and dh back tonight so must do supermarket run and continue with laundry.

Have a productive day everyone! (Littlies and work allowing!)

Morning, dunno what was up with mn last night but I couldn't post anything.

So sorry to hear about your aunt sc is never easy however expected. Be kind to yourself Flowers

Grin sounds like kitten has settled in well zoo!

Normal 9-5 for me today, ironing pile has become mountain, need to tackle that later. Exciting Friday night! Want to be fairly up to date with things by tonight as it's my birthday tomorrow and we need to start holiday preparation! Love a good packing list! Grin

foxessocks · 19/05/2017 07:17

zoo beef casserole sounds lovely and I'm intrigued by the pudding, dd loves bananas. Good about dd parents evening , I was always a delight to my teachers and pretty horrible to my mum - pretty normal I think and shows she is secure enough to be herself around you knowing your love is unconditional , hard for you though!

I totally missed all the threads about mobile posting not working yesterday so thought it was just me!

To do
Daily routine
Clean taps in bathroom
Deep clean surfaces in bathroom
Make dh birthday cake
Hoover upstairs
Declutter bag and purse and car
Food shopping online
Meal plan for next week

Slurrycart · 19/05/2017 07:43

Thanks BluePheasant have a good day at work!

Mmm, certainly beef casserole weather here today!

MN was weird for me too!

No flying done by me but DH has done loads of laundry and has done some financial admin stuff which should save us some money. Which we have spent on our summer holiday instead. Hurrah.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/05/2017 11:49

Tadas
Fed cat
Bleach lav
Wipe kittens eyes
Feed them
Clean their litter tray out

Dd2 had her umbrella broken by a feral Herbert in get class wed,so she hadine fir school as wears a blazer. O git wet taking little ones in...I've written in her planner tutor needs nip things in the bud-she punch dd2 arm after bust brolly and pur bottle water over her head(at which point dd2 start "giving it large" mouthing off. Tutor had a go at them both even tho dd2 was drip water(sigh) kid punch her again yest.no reason.two black bruises on arm
Kid involved wants her attention/bit jealous I think.she's not git any friends really(dd2 only has a couple as "isn't in popular group")has 7siblings,dads in prison and they do as they please.....

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 19/05/2017 13:14

Hi everyone. Poor DD2 zoo. Who stole summer Grin.

Ta da (while DD2 in preschool):-
Went to library - we had lost a book and I had to replace Blush
Got haircut
Got present for someone
Enquired about swimming lessons for DDs - they are like gold dust around here - v hard to get on

To do:-
Laundry - there is loads
Get stuff ready for a party after school
Go to soft play party. At least don't need to worry about what's for tea for the girls

Must get on now as have DD2 back with me as well.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/05/2017 14:09

S+s(watch by 2 bemused Kitty's)
Wash fold n put away
2nd Load in dryer
Had much needed 30min nap(wish hadn't set alarm, but scared might not wake to get zoolets)

I shall now raid cupboards hunting fir a nice lunch option

foxes mine all love banana icecream-i see a frozen banana, mango and coconut milk one I itch to try...
Today's menu-mince lamb with cumin and mint, couscous with sundry tomatoes and cucumber.green beans.some kind of vegan cake(out eggs and refuse trail out in rain without coat/brolly when I can make edible cakes without!Grin)

YesEinsteinsMumDid · 19/05/2017 15:09

Not much flying here, the lack of sleep the other night caught up with me and I passed out after getting the kid out of the door to school this morning. Just eating breakfast now Shock so much have needed it.

Just trying to figure out what to tackle today Confused and feeling rather out of sorts as my motivation appears to have disappeared.

Afreshstartplease · 19/05/2017 18:27

So fucking pissed off Angry what does fly lady suggest for selfish inconsiderate partner?

I am angry cleaning Angry

Wh0Kn0wsWhereTheTimeGoes · 19/05/2017 18:58

Gin for you Fresh.

Cagliostro · 19/05/2017 19:00

Can you do angry-making-partner-clean instead? Thanks

Pleased to report DD started ballet officially today and I managed to do the ballet bun! :o :o

Afreshstartplease · 19/05/2017 19:06

No because he fucked off to the pub Angry

Everywhere is such a mess
Literally stuff everywhere

Cagliostro · 19/05/2017 19:20

Ugh. Git.

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/05/2017 19:25

Oh afreshSad
Angry cleaning is very productive though.I find if I very angry I whip thru things whilst having vengeful thoughts

Zoolets picked up from school
Fed and watered
Kits eyes wiped and more kibble down
Dd2 had a rubbish day.ears throat hurt.friend left(only found out leaving last night,so no time plan a goodbye)
She has one friend now."popular" girls made fun of her not hit ball back in pe,kid broke brolly other day ehack round head a water bottle.her only remaining friend is very babyish, hence she has no other friends. Dd2 feeling very much no one likes me and at times like this she used sob into atticus furry body and then snuggle him and he would purr her tears awaySad
I've had her in bathroom encouraging cosima to play with bit tinfoil vsll tied to string. Maybe in time as she gets less timid she can comfort her a little
I shall have words again in planner, anymore hut/hurt I be speak head year and teach her how hit back .we are a very peace loving family, but sometimes defending yourself is the only answerSad

Lil zoo and ds at choir, she's lay sofa watching twilight eclipse on TV and sneezing......

Stilllivinginazoo · 19/05/2017 19:29

cag yay for ballet bun

afresh if you can turn blind eye to mess would be poss sit and wade thru copious amounts choc/wine etc(whatever floats boat)and divvy out chores tom?or are we talking self centred and inconsiderate?

Afreshstartplease · 19/05/2017 19:37

He just seems to have no awareness of things that need doing. Or he does, but doesn't think he should do them. E.g. he bitches kitchen is a mess but never fucking tidies it, never washes up, never does the washing. DC do more, and one of them pointed that out the other day ...

I need to do stuff tonight or it will put me in a really crap mood to get up to it tomorrow morning.

What's getting me down ATM is doing stories and bed for the DC on my own AGAIN. It can get very stressful and I am only one person Sad
