Welcome to the May 2017 fledgling Fly thread!

Feel free to park your mops and buckets here from the 1st of the month!

This is where we attempt to declutter our homes and follow the 30-step wisdom of Flylady (minus cutesy barftastic language and a surfeit of e-mails) with lots of chat and support and mutual motivation (and Wine of course) along the way.

More info available here, here here and here.

As usual we will be following a three-pronged approach - and don't worry - we are all at different stages. (Some of us are still stuck at the decluttering stage after quite a few years Blush):

1 - repeat or start baby steps (again!)

2 - repeat baby steps + do 15 mins a day decluttering in the current zone

or

3 - reinforce babysteps and/or do daily missions
And those of you who have decluttered and are really enthusiastic can throw some detailed cleaning in to the mix as well!

The idea is that we focus on short, ring-fenced, daily bursts of activity (steps and routines) that will help our homes run (more or less!) on "automatic pilot" allowing us to do far more interesting things instead!

This is a very long-running thread so we may appear cliquey but we really aren't! All newcomers, long-termers, lurkers and intermittent returnees welcome!

Helpful pointers: No perfectionism allowed! If it took a while to create the current C.H.A.O.S. (can't have anyone over syndrome) in your home, then it will probably take a while to reverse the situation (you can't clean clutter!). Small steps are the key! And you are never behind: just jump in where you are at!

Any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

Good luck!

Sorted clutter cupboard of doom (filled binbag random crap as pop in neighbour bin as mine full, they at work and binman should be round before they are backWink)
Sorted half kettle pile got bored
Baby steps n all thatSmile

Played kitty.she's adorable. Scout cats stubbornly glaring toward kitchen window at me sitting in rain on back garden path, water dripping off his ears.stubborn little thing....

BluePheasant · 15/05/2017 11:52

End up doing the same stuff because it's easier rather than tackling any of the trickier jobs , I'm basically really good at procrastination.

This is 100% me as well. Drives me mad but there just aren't enough hours in the day and by the time I've done all the essential stuff DD is getting bored and needs things to do so there goes the rest of the day. Kitchen, bathroom and lounge are usually pretty tidy. Our bedroom and various cupboards of doom on other hand....complete dumping ground Blush

This is me too I'm afraid Blush BluePheasant/Foxes

Sounds as though our respective houses are in similar states BluePheasant although I have been on this thread for an age. My kitchen is far too cluttered though but can't think of a way around it as have so few surfaces.

Yay to much deserved hot choc break though! Foxes

Cag sorry you are feeling so low atm Flowers. Pregnancy nausea and illness can't be helping.

Great list there Zoo!

I really CBA with chores today - weather far too nice - but needs must and all of that!

Keep going everyone!

To do:-
Take DD2 home from activity
Laundry check
5 mins decluttering if get a chance
Phone call
Pick up DD1 from school
Go to soft play with school friend which involves driving down there at pick up time which I hate.

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/05/2017 13:07

blue, slurry, foxes another procrastinator here.can we have t-shirts or something?!

I have been side tracked entertaining carbonnel with a toy mouse........

Cagliostro · 15/05/2017 13:18

Actually it's supposed to be 10 fruit and veg a day now. So really you should double your cocoa intake to help with this.

Love the name carbonnel, how cute! What inspired the choice?

Glad I've had a bath and done my hair, feel a bit better now.

Slurrycart · 15/05/2017 13:35

Foxes There are a lovely series of books by Barbara Sleigh about Carbonel the cat. "The Kingdom of Carbonel" is the first one I think. I used to adore them as a child but dd not so much (think perhaps they may be a bit slow-paced for modern day tastes).

Zoo it can be arranged!

Do any of you feel like you are ever up to date with everything ?

BluePheasant · 15/05/2017 17:26

BluePheasant · 15/05/2017 17:34

BusyBee2017 · 15/05/2017 17:45

Me neither!! Before the LOs arrived I wanted to clear my to do list and still
Now after two kids still got my to do list ! Nowadays its spread out so one thing each day because the household cleaning and cooking is never ending

Cagliostro · 15/05/2017 18:17

Up to date? Errrm no. :o

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 15/05/2017 18:25

SC Grin. BusyBee noooooooo Grin sadly not.

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 15/05/2017 18:26

Although if you read the testimonials on the flylady website there are loads from very busy people who say they are up to date. TBH I have recently being prioritising stopping at 10pm so I can relax for a bit before bed.

BluePheasant · 15/05/2017 18:34

DD is nearly 4 and there are still so many things that are on the eternal to do list!
One of the things I'm really finding this thread helps me with is tackling things in very small chunks. My kitchen and bathroom has definitely benefited from all the little missions, I'm almost at a stage where they are quite well decluttered (Kettle Pile doesn't count, it's virtually one of the appliances Wink). I really do need to start tackling our bedroom as that is where all the clutter hides but I always find something else mumsnet to do Grin

foxessocks · 15/05/2017 19:07

Up to date? Haha! Never ever!!! But I do feel on top of the clutter, I try to be aware of what I'm buying as well to stop bringing more clutter into my house! That has meant that housework is easier than it used to be because there isn't as much crap to wade through now. But there is still some crap! And I still have a massive to do list of housework type stuff as well as admin type tasks and errands...some of it literally goes back years Blush .

Ta da
Bathroom swish and swipe
Took stuff out of bathroom that didn't belong there
Cooked dinner and tidied kitchen
Tidied living room
Dishwasher on
Cleared out old broken coat hangers from dd and ds wardrobes
Dusted all furniture
Decluttered my bag and dd bag
daily routine all done

Hooray I actually did more than my list today!

Stilllivinginazoo · 15/05/2017 19:16

More out of date than up to date hereBlushGrin
