Neat and clean in 2017 - it's the January Flylady thread

Star HAPPY NEW YEAR Star

Welcome to the January Flylady thread, where we try and maintain our nests in good order by following the Flylady method. We'll post links each day to the Flylady website for the babysteps, daily focus and extra missions in the current zone. The habit of the month is shining your sink (or whatever other place in your home motivates you).

If you are just starting, Flylady recommends decluttering the weekly zone before doing the detailed cleaning and not to do too much at once!

All are welcome, so feel free to join us anytime.

Gah! Totally unsuccessful start to the day. Wanted to finish my tax return and got 90% through it and then for some unknown reason the hmrc website didn't like one of my answers and then deleted a whole section so now I've got to ring them in the morning Angry

foxessocks · 08/01/2017 12:25

I think I've missed some sort of special tap cleaning tip...The thread has been moving too fast for me!!

As for weeing on the floor is this what I have to look forward to when ds gets older?!

Ta das
Almost finished my tax return!
Put washing away
Put washing on
Dishwasher on
Kitchen sides cleaned

Dh started sorting some paperwork out but abandoned it and left it all over the floor...He has redeemed himself by dealing with a poo explosion by DS and going to the shop for bacon and bread.

Cagliostro · 08/01/2017 13:01

Ok tax return... I need to do mine! Not got a clue how Blush is it quite easy if I have a very low income (nowhere near enough to pay tax) and no expenses?!

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/01/2017 13:03

That's a fair redeem foxes
Ta das
Clean bath

foxessocks · 08/01/2017 13:05

cag it is my first year doing it so not experienced really but yes it has been fairly simple once I worked out that all I really needed to do was add up my income and add up my expenses and pretty much answer no to the rest!! The bit that went wrong was the marriage allowance bit because despite putting in correct details it wouldn't work and I've no idea why!

FoolandFitz · 08/01/2017 13:21

I only filed my tax return by myself once as it was too stressful for me, even though it's fairly straightforward. I was terrified that I would get it wrong and hmrc would take end up taking me to court because I filled the tax return in wrong and I actually owed thousands. Instead I have an accountant who files it for me. Much easier.

cag yours should be super simple. fox hmrc were very helpful when I phoned them that first year with queries and problems. I had the laptop in front of me and we went through it together and she told me what to put where. Smile

FoolandFitz · 08/01/2017 13:46

Feeling a bit better today.

Ta-da
Went to exchange lampshade but new one is also faulty Hmm
While I was at the shop, did a mini food shop which turned out to be not so mini (and I still did not get everything)
Made bed
Put away a load
Washed breakfast things
Made lunch for DC and myself
Cancelled delivery for furniture for tomorrow. Need to make sure I follow this up and rearrange delivery (their system was down)
Soaked some lentils to make dahl saag later

To-do
Put more clothes away
Wash my hair. It's been a week Blush
Get stuff ready for tomorrow

foxessocks · 08/01/2017 14:22

That's good fool (it does feel wrong calling you that as an abbreviation!!) I will ring as soon as dd is at nursery tomorrow. I think I've done the rest right it was just this one bit that wouldn't work and has now disappeared completely!

Cagliostro · 08/01/2017 15:26

Thanks both I feel reassured! I have ASD and get really panicky about forms at the best of times, and this week I also have to finish my housing form and apply for PIP :( I have an appt with the CAB tomorrow to get help with the latter. It just causes epic anxiety. Ugh.

One of my New Years resolutions though is to do a spreadsheet for all my pupils and lessons rather than having to work it all out retrospectively from the diary and phone/FB messages Blush :o

Been sorting some craft drawers, might cut up some old clothes I put aside for DD's fabric stash and I'll definitely do the gmail inbox later when I get on the laptop.

Cagliostro · 08/01/2017 15:27

Oh and if I manage to get up (not feeling good today so Caglets are downstairs watching telly and DD decided to design a board game :o) I will do a couple of washes and I will get the Caglets to do some tidying as well.

Stilllivinginazoo · 08/01/2017 15:54

cag designing a board game sounds fun!!
Having just near broke my neck on D's satchel straplaying in wait on hall floor instead in top shoe crate to prevent accidents attempt carry laundry upstairs to be put away and vast array random crap tumbled out everywhere. Therefore I propose to add(at least here in zoo house)Fri will be designated school bag decluttering as well as handbag sorting!!
I need to tidy out fridge and inspect what's left in freezer and make note of it to do a meal plan.by write it here it kinda means I HAVE to sort it!!

Honu · 08/01/2017 16:21

foxes it's a long time since I did my tax return (I do the paper one as it's very simple, but it has to be in by the end of October) but I don't remember any marriage allowance unless you were married before 1935 or something like that, so perhaps it's disappeared as they didn't think it was relevant.
I meant to do so much tidying and decluttering during this first week of January as school doesn't start until tomorrow but, looking around, there's not a lot of evidence of anything looking much better. Especially not the dreaded paper mountain, which is threatening to engulf my laptop. However, I have planned next week's lessons which is all to the good.

Greymalkin · 08/01/2017 17:08

Hi everyone, sounds like everyone is keeping busy. As for the FatFairy's notion of 'no zone work on weekends' - what planet is she on?! For the vast majority of us who work during the week and have little ones underfoot, when else are we realistically going to get big jobs done?

Absolutely agree with PPs who tweak the system to make it fit their particular families.

My TaDas
Emptied, washed and dried two cat litter trays
Cleaned bath
Lots of tidying and organising of garden ornaments and pots ready for removal chaps tomorrow
Sent DH off to do a tip run
Three loads of laundry, tumble drying, folding and putting away
Switched off freezer to start defrosting
Cooked an early dinner with the remains of what was in the freezer
Made beds
Dishwasher loaded

To Do
Wash freezer drawers
Clean inside fridge
Pack bag for DS for his two days planned with PIL whilst the move happens

Muppetslikecoco · 08/01/2017 17:19

Ta da
Sorted out the garden, I've been putting it off for weeks.
Rebooted the laundry
Dinner is in the oven

To do
Finish dinner
Bath DS
Wash pots
General tidy
Mop kitchen floor (muddy boots in and out when doing the garden)

PurpleDaisies · 08/01/2017 17:58

honu the marriage allowance is back again-I think it's been around a year or two but this is the first time it's come up on a tax return. Guess who is avoiding doing theirs?

I've had a post busy time crash today and been asleep for most of the afternoon. I think it's a hangover from my CFS days which are mostly gone not except if I've been really busy. I've got a few useful bits done including changing fifteen light bulbs (!!!) and set dh to work in the kitchen.

Ta da's
Church
Mini shop for light bulbs and a few bits
Changed a lot of light bulbs

To dos
Meal plan
Sort out the kitchen (wash up, wipe sides and sweep floor)

WhoKn0wsWhereTheTimeG0es · 08/01/2017 18:42

I do a tax return (still need to finish it). There is a marriage allowance again now but it only applies if one person is a very low or non-earner IIRC.

Cagliostro · 08/01/2017 18:47

I need to talk to DH about the marriage thing as he signed us up to it.

I also have my old wages though, as technically I was still employed although on such a low (PT) wage I would still be nowhere near the threshold. But I have to figure out how it all gets put in the form. Next year's will be much easier and the third year will be ONLY what I'm earning by tutoring, so will be the simplest possible from then on.

foxessocks · 08/01/2017 19:15

Yes marriage allowance is for very low earner which I am so I'm pretty certain I need to fill it in. I already applied for it before and dh tax code got changed so I need to ring them or he'll have a big tax bill to pay Sad I don't know what went wrong ,I put in all the correct details but it said there was an error with the info and then the section disappeared. Anyway I will make it top priority to ring them tomorrow hopefully DS will have a sleep so I can concentrate!

Good luck to everyone with their tax returns, it really was simple for me apart from this one glitch!

Ta das
Some ironing, sock sorting and putting clothes away
Dh is hanging more washing up now
Cooked dinner and tidied kitchen up
Dishwasher on
Living room tidied up
Swish and swipe bathroom

Just got baby to sleep and dd to bed so breathing a sigh of relief. The only sound I can hear is the dishwasher rumbling which is the quietest it has been all day. It's lovely!

TooStressyForMyOwnGood · 08/01/2017 19:27

Hello all, I am back from my spa day and feel all zen-like and sprit renewed but how long will it last????! Sounds as if both DC played up and DD1 wide awake wanting to ask me all about the day. Determined to cling on to the zen-ness.

Purple sounds as if you needed that sleep. Sometimes we just need a break.

I will need to look into tax return type stuff for next financial year, going to try to freelance a bit. Have been approached by someone to do some work for them, only a bit but don't want to turn it down. Hadn't wanted to do it really until DD2 starts school as will have time to sort it out then but will have to start investigating set up stuff now.

To do:-
Get DD1 to sleep
Hear all about the day - sounds as if DD2 was not well behaved Sad
Unpack spa stuff.... sob
Laundry
Dishwasher
Before bed routine
Study - am sad I know but actually got a bit of assignment done today at spa.

Cagliostro · 08/01/2017 19:35

Losing will to live doing my gmail account. Soooo slow. Just got 60ish emails to check/act on (stuff like checking I've actually downloaded files etc... or more likely just download them anyway and deal with duplicates someday...) YAWN

Cagliostro · 08/01/2017 19:35

Has made me decide to use hotmail for whatever I can in future. Gmail is so fecking slow in comparison!
