Ok, so as there is no thread, and I can't remember or find a volunter for this month I declare summer mode operational.

This means:

  1. You are still welcome to join and post
  1. If you want there to be links and no one has posted them, feel free to post them.
  2. As technical thread leader I shall be hanging out in the naughty corner bar
  3. We'll still answer questions for anyone wanting information on the fly lady system and support each other. It's just a little more relaxed.

And with that, bring on July and crazy pants school holiday stuff...

Oh and dh and I are feeling very pissed off with our notaire who was meant to give us the answer to plan C.5 last week and who has suddenly gone silent. We can't reach her by phone or e-mail. Something very off I fear... . [sigh]

Yeah after that slip on the stairs I went on strike and curled up with a craft project, intermittently breaking to do laundry and work my way through the mountain. I swear building work creates so much laundry it is unbelievable!

I hope you feel better soon SC

Brain has checked into vacation mode already. Sorry folks.

Stillliving the weather has been so wet of late, I found a snail making its way determinedly across our hall floor the other week, never happened before!! Wow to your Flying list! That's amazing! And Shock at tarantuala! [Used to feed a mexican bird eating spider at school though - it was called Wilfrid] Hope your dd2 ok. Happy birthday to the furries!

Which reminds me ¨MadSprocker hope you had a lovely day yesterday!

And also reminds me - Blue - how is Smokey Joe?

Thanks Ëinstein hope you are ok too. Think you are being incredibly heroic putting up with building work for this length of time. I would have truly lost my marbles by now.

Meant to say, hope you have recovered from your extraordinarily busy weekend Whoknows (sounded like a lot of fun though!) You have just reminded me that it is jam-making season! I had forgotten because of all of the rain Confused

9pm here and dh and I are shuffling off to our respective sick beds ...can't stand the pace Grin

We've rearranged the board games! They now all fit in/on the (admittedly fecking huge) cupboard. We have to find somewhere else for the jigsaws though (I'm thinking of the massive tub that currently has a load of paperwork in it - which we will be shredding later this week).

SC I hope you and your DH feel better soon Flowers I'm really enjoying my time with DS at the minute. He's at the lovely state of having his own character but not testing the boundaries too much yet eitherGrin

Stillliving I also hold my hands up to slugs in the living room. No idea how the bastards get in though. I've got such fond memories of crab fishing at Wells, I'd completely forgotten about that place. So sorry to hear about your friend Flowers

Hope you and DH are feeling better soon, and that you hear from the notaire, SC. Smokey's lovely (except when he climbs my legs or leaps at my back or hair), and just about helping me cling on to sanity at the moment! He's settled in amazingly well, and is very tolerant of the boys lugging him around.

Hope you're recovered too, Einstein.

Well done on the game rearranging, Cag - I hadn't heard of a lot of the ones you mentioned, so will check them out - DH is a bit of a board game geek, and there are quite a few games that he and the boys play together.

MIL and SFIL are coming tomorrow to meet the kitten and the house is in usual mid-week chaos, so they'll just have to lump it. I have mostly done the spare room, though - just need to get DH to help with the duvet cover in a bit. Will try to do a bit of a house rescue in the morning too.

Fledglings go on summer mode, Welcome to July.

Slugs in the house here too, just inside the back door and by the fireplace. I use slug pellets and salt very carefully under heavy boxes and baskets so the cats can't get at them but it's not working.

Just to show I can occasionally be domesticated, Blue, I use the burrito method to put on my duvet cover ( Google it ). As I have to do this on my own it has saved the most enormous amount of bad language.

Yeah, cute kitten pictures to look at first thing in the morning :)
Re slugs - DD and I reckoned we'd been slimed by a ghost yesterday morning as there was slime and cat fur up the wall in the hall. Then DH found the monster slug - yuck, yuck, yuck (would have been happier with a ghost!)
Glad board games have been sorted Cagliostro, ours are mainly in the floor-to-ceiling cupboard in the hall though there seems to be a rather large pile on top of the unit in the living room too Hmm

Managed to get most of yesterday's list done which was a positive start. Today DS is off school due to strike - he's delighted as only Yr5 teachers are on strike. Planning to meet up with friends to either go swimming or for a walk and picnic. Need to list for today:

  • Most people up and out!
  • Morning routine - washing on, washing up, S&S, tidy round (probably something else I've not remembered yet!)
  • Work - send out invoices
  • Make ice-cream (before cream goes out of date again!)
  • DS to do homework and piano practice
  • Out with DS
  • Mission - cutlery drawer (silverware sounds too posh :))
  • Try and remember to order fish from fish man - someone came to the door last week and they deliver a fresh fish order once every 6 weeks. Sounded a great idea, just need to decide/agree on what to order.

That should do. Get better soon poorly fledglings and have a good day everyone else.

I've not been ever so productive this morning but I'm waiting in for parcels so my motivation to get up and out isn't there.

Ta da,
Made the beds
Fed the boys
Load of washing on
Cleaned the bathroom

To do
Sweep and mop hard floors
Vacuum living room
Put washing on line
I'm going to add cutlery draw too because it's desperate
Go shopping and get cash out for driving lesson tonight

Feeling very meh. Just want to impose some order in the chaos for the nice 2 month break in building work. Yep a break. Yep more building work. Seriously folks. Don't let building work accumulate, keep up maintenance on the house and do little bits at a time. Far less disrupting. Far less insanity inducing.

To do.

hahahahahaha yeah lots. Pick a shiny any shiny...

ta da
remove recycling from car and put into bin ready for collection any minute
find that wall planner for next academic year was much bigger than planned and won't fit on the door as had intended
make sure all calendars are on the right month Hmm
notice all the mess and muck :( :( :(
break the only 1 cup of coffee rule - currently on 2 cups
consider the errands that need running
find paperwork that should no longer have (confidential and I no longer do that role) and start new burn pile. (I burnout shredders so this is the best option)

Ok naughty corner bar, extra strong special brew. Help yourself. It is good for buzzing, productively and motivation.... WinkGrin

Morning all!

[Leaves tray of steaming hot coffees and stack of toasted and buttered cramique on naughty corner bar for everyone to help themselves.]

Thanks for good wishes. I'm feeling a bit better today but dh is worse unfortunately.

Feeling similarly "meh" here too Einstein! [Cackles hysterically at thought of building work not piling up - we are about a decade too late for that sadly!]

Kruck your ds sounds lovely! I remember really enjoying that age too!

Feetheart/Whoknows yurgh at general slug talk. We need a very cold winter to kill 'em all off - think they have had a free pass for the last couple of years or so.

Feetheart Star for your substantial list achieved! Must track down our fish man here too now you mention it ... .

Honu I tried that Burrito method once and somehow dd ended up inside the rolled duvet!! Grin Now you have recommended it though, I shall persist and practice ... .

Cag congrats on board game reorganisation Star!!

Blue Smokey sounds totally fab! And hopefully the jumping about - and being at ease with the dc - will mean that he will grow in to a very laid back adult! So great considering his rather scary start in life!

And yes - nowt like animals to provide comfort in times of stress!

It doesn't seem right to relay them here in detail - but have had so many really difficult conversations with friends over the past week or so whose futures are looking pretty bleak now - their rights of residency, jobs, properties, children's education are all in peril. So difficult when no-one really knows what is going to happen. It's very difficult to try and offer comfort in those circumstances.

One friend even said "what is the point of our children even learning French now, they probably would do better to learn Chinese" which certainly gave me cause to ponder. I am not sure I agree entirely on that particular point but there is no escaping the fact that our children's futures are going to look very different indeed than ours ever did ... .

All so depressing ...heigh ho!

Weary wing flaps to one and all ... .

Tbh it is just easier to not see it. It has been there for the duration of the work but I have been able to ignore it.

This will amuse you. I asked ds what language he wanted next year (french, german and spanish are the options.
Ds: I'd like to learn Ancient greek
Me: err, nope they don't offer that.
Ds: Well then I'd like to learn Latin
Me: Sorry ds they don't offer that.
Ds: well then it had better be manderin
Me: really?!
Ds: well yes it will be a useful language after all chinese is the biggest language.
Me: well there is an issue of cantonese over manderin but they don't offer either in yr 7. You will have either french, german or spanish
Ds: well that is just boring.

Poor kid is in for one hell of a shock in September Grin

Aw, bless him Einstein! Grin Think I would opt for Spanish in his shoes right now!

Big debate here about whether English will continue as one of the official EU langs (currently about 15 I think) when Brexit goes ahead. Most reckon it will, because it is used by Ireland and Gibraltar.

Hmm, I though I'd posted yesterday but it obviously didn't go through suspect I hit the preview not the post button so belated birthday wishes to MadSprocker and congratulations to Kruck.

The next week and a half is going to be a bit manic. I am finally getting more motivated to sort out the house, cleared a lot of paperwork from a corner of the kitchen over the weekend. I tend to shove leaflets/school stuff in a holder there, so if you just wait long enough it is so out of date you can toss without fear Blush. Also need to tackle the tiny (f)utility room.

I am also in need of a grip handing out, as there is something I need to tackle with DD's school and I have been avoiding it. I should have a handy excuse to raise it this week or next though, so need to get on with that one.

Sunny day here today so finally getting some laundry drying outside, woo! Nice not to have it hanging around the house for once!

Gibraltar is under UK control so that is a whole another can of worms really. Judging by a recent RT report the spanish have real issues despite what those in power are saying. Ie the situation looks good on paper and for investors but is not good for the majority. So am watching that with interest. Ireland is an interesting one but it seems to have gone a little quiet on that front. It is a worrying time for so many people and the statement that whether or not the UK actually invoke article 50 is now irrelevant because the damage has been done seems to be ringing true.

sorry housekeeping thread.

So ta da

put wall planner up on its side where i wanted it to go originally

Totally 'get' the "perfectionist stationery hoarder thing" btw. I definitely have it. And dd has inherited from me too Blush

Cotswold thank you for bring some much needed motivation to the thread! (Well, I definitely need some inspiration anyway!) And good luck with tackling difficult school issue. It's anti-procrastination day tomorrow so maybe that will help?

Ta da:
chased notaire again without success [harrumph]
animals
short, rather slow dog-walk
made dh soup
2 loads washing
1 load drying
oversaw gas chap change recording thingy
served dh lunch in bed

Going to crash now for a bit ...

I think this is the problem. The effects are so far reaching and affect so many different people it is hard not to discuss concerns and worrys and its impacts without discussing brexit. Put down fresh
Fed my cats and zoolets
Pack howling dd2 off to catch school bus(inflame ear canals give her issues. Again)
Swish n swipe

Thankfully all zoolets at school-little ones had 2polling days off recently so head adamant stay open,EV if not enough staff to be a normal school day.dd2school rarely shuts for anything(hurrah)
Did slow shift
Help a friend lug bit shop home(has bad backcand doesn't drive either)
Washing on
Eat then grab zoolets
Organise little zoo for trampolining
Walk over and get dd2
Collapse in tired heap

(Played alphabetty on my phone for a bit.now must crack on with tea-meatballs for little ones, roast veggies with cream cheese and pasta for dd2....)
May slope back for my intravenous chocolate in a bitGrin

Aye Einstein 'tis so Sad

Stilllivinginazoo I like the sound of your community café. When I have guests, I find cooking poached eggs to order exceedingly stressful, so hats off for that!

Well we've heard from the notaire and it's not looking good - whole thing hanging on a knife edge as usual - frankly just want to duvet dive but have written her an e-mail in what I now realise is pretty appalling French (because I had cracking headache at time of writing) but hope she gets the gist. Probably won't help but it's made me feel a bit better!

Have managed to declutter a dozen magazines, had a doze, chatted with dh.

Going to make spag sauce for fridge now and feed the wms again.

Can't cope with the excitement frankly Grin
