I've just found out about this fab way of organising your life, thanks to a kind poster on the 'people who are efficient ' thread. I was wondering if any other MNers are Bullet Journalers? here is the website if anyone's interested.

It's only a couple of days since I started my journal, but I can already see that it's going to revolutionise my ability to be organised. I've tried loads of apps, lists etc in the past, but have never really hit on a system that worked for me. I have very high hopes of this one though (plus it involves pretty stationery Smile )!

daim I just bought some drywipe markers from whsmith- 2 pack of black and red, not the prettiest but will do! Red = social engagements and what time DH will be home (whether I need to cook for him or not) and my slimming world healthy extras, black is everything else!

daimbardiva · 16/02/2016 17:18

Yes, cut I think that's what I meant - losing the incentive thing wouldn't be so important at work as everything has to get done - I just see it as a useful expansion of the excel based daily log I already keep.

Thanks bendy I am so doing this!!!

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/02/2016 17:54

Babies

Find Leuchtturm 1917 on Ebay! I was looking last night, there's every colour of the rainbow and more and get this they exist in silver and GOLD!!!
The ones I looked at are A5, 240 pages, choose from dotted, squares, lines or plain for £12.90

I will copy the item number of the purple on for you later, then you can look at this one seller's other items.(not endorsing anybody, just a suggestion as I'd buy from this one - still undecided)

TheoriginalLEM · 16/02/2016 18:28

ok you buggers - I'm in and expecting my life to change!

i bought a book -after looking at some stunning journals i settled on a 4.99 note book from waterstones in case i bugger it up.

howshould i set it up?

Kewcumber · 16/02/2016 19:01

Anyone thought of using stamps to colour in? Flag stamps etc?

Babieseverywhere · 16/02/2016 19:03

Thanks Zing I am lucky that my DH has ordered one, it has just not arrived yet. So the pen loop and pen arrived today and the book probably tomorrow:)

I was just moaning that it didn't arrive today.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 16/02/2016 20:09

Oh I would never have thought of eBay for stationery!!! Definitely getting a Leuchtturn next time then!Grin

TheVeryThing · 16/02/2016 20:34

I am away overnight with work and enjoying some quality time with my journal in the hotel.
I'm planning to start a weekly task list as I find I'm migrating quite a few things every day.
Hope your book arrives tomorrow babies, and that yours turns up jasper

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/02/2016 20:45

Babies I see! I wasn't reading carefully (house full of bin lids...just too much noise to concentrate in!)
I'm rooting for you. It will arrive tomorrow

Bendy
Ebay is my first choice for everything
Last week I bought tap shoes for Zinglette, trainers for MiniZing, new shoelaces for old and new shoes, candle wicks to salvage my faulty Yankee Candle, strong fridge magnets etc etc.
And some more wool and crochet hooks, of course Grin

ZingDramaQueenOfSheeba · 16/02/2016 20:56

Also I wanted to share my newest "meal planner" idea - I do this on the fridge because it's handy, but of you can incorporate it in your BuJo.

It's simple. Some dinner ideas for the week as you can see on photo - I write them out based on what we already have. I can only think about 3 -4 days ahead (unless special occasion).
BUT, as I never know what I will actually make on any given day until that morning or even afternoon (with 7 kids there are too many unforseen circumstances and I need to improvise a lot!) so I find it easier just to pick something out of the pre-thought possibilities - if that makes sense.
No writing or crossing things out several times, I just put the relevant post-it note in the middle of the fridge once I decided what I cook.

I hope some of you will find it a good idea Smile

TheVeryThing · 16/02/2016 21:09

I like that idea zing, dh does a lot of the cooking so using my journal wouldn't really work.

Babieseverywhere · 16/02/2016 23:13

Well thanks to all the meal planning ideas, guilting me!

So I have made a short list of food I can just about cook and added the ingredients to my current shopping food list in my mock bujo.

And ordered all food to be delivered to the house tomorrow for £1...worth having delivery as my car is unwell and all four kids are home as it is half term...two points against shopping in person.

I also have some metal takeaway box things, which I intend to cook and freeze some extra meals for next week.

And I found a recipe for little Chinese pancakes...which I wrote in my mock bujo to try later this week.

My book has a long daily changing to do list and loads and loads of not important lists. Wonder if I am doing this right or not. At least it is less for my poor brain too remember and I am planning for the week ahead, rather than daily firefighting iyswim.

Right off to bed. Postie better call tomorrow :)

mercifulTehlu · 17/02/2016 07:14

LEM - if you go to page 1 of this thread (about the 8th post, I think), I've listed how to set it up. Leave at least one double page spread at the beginning for your index before you go through and number the rest of the pages in the notebook.

It's worth going on the Bullet Journal website (see link in the OP) just to see what your set-up should look like. Welcome to the fold!

Babieseverywhere - your BuJo doesn't sound 'mock' to me. Anyway, the whole point is to set it up how it works for YOU! Any chance you could post the chinese pancake recipe?!

SoupDragon · 17/02/2016 07:37

Wonder if I am doing this right or not.

There is no right or wrong way to do this. :)

Iggi999 · 17/02/2016 08:10

So... I have thought of something I need to do in June (make an appointment) and I don't know where to put it... What is best? I have a calendar for June (but I don't know the date obviously) but no June to-do list, just a mega list and one for this month.
Am I overthinking this massively? Confused Blush

SoupDragon · 17/02/2016 08:13

I would probably write it on this month's list "remember to do X in June" and carry it forward.

Or set up an alert on my phone for 1st June to remind me :o

Babieseverywhere · 17/02/2016 08:32

Iggie I have a double spread with 12 boxes labelled with the months of the year.

Future tasks and appointments are noted with or without dates. I have two events and one task under March which I will copy out to my March monthly planner page in March.

Babieseverywhere · 17/02/2016 08:41

Soupdragon That is great to hear but if you saw my dog eared messy pad with bad hand writing and so many crossing outs, you would cry.

But it is working for me, which is the important part. Still a disaster in terms of pretty mind you, lol :)

RainbowDashed · 17/02/2016 08:54

Any sign of the postie Babies?

We will indeed have ^identical& bujo's Grin Does yours have dots?

Iggi I have the next twelve months spread over 4 pages, so if I know something needs doing in June I pop it in the June box (cf the Future Planning pages in the official Bullet Journal instructions). So for eg I know my car will need an MOT mid Sept so I have a note in Sept to get it booked in the first couple of days. Then when the time comes to do my Sept monthly plan, it will go into the monthly task list, and will then migrate to a daily task once September actually gets underway. That way I can forget about it until September, then writing it in the monthly list is like a warning - you will need to do this soon - then I will allocate a day to actually make the appointment.

You know, it's brilliant, getting all this stuff out of my head and on to paper. I have anxiety and I struggle with the whirlwind "to do" list that goes round my head. This is actually working and making me feel calmer :)

RainbowDashed · 17/02/2016 08:59

This year's BuJo is purple. Next year's will be dark blue, then light blue, then green and so on until in a few years' time I will have a lovely array of journals on my bookshelf. There's some future planning for you Grin

TheoriginalLEM · 17/02/2016 09:42

Thanks merciful - my book is still pristine clean but i dont think its big enough really. Just an exercise book - but what i REALLY wanted was one of those adorable paperblank journals but £24 Shock i'll have to wait til i am an expert.

TheoriginalLEM · 17/02/2016 09:48

Ah, yes, that looks useful. there are so many things i need/want to do both work wise and around the house. Also want to keep track of the books i have read. Was sceptical at first but this is exciting. I like that there is not that much wasted space like in a diary

Iggi999 · 17/02/2016 10:12

Thank you Soup, and Babies and Rainbow!!
That's what I left out, future planning pages. I was thinking the calendar did instead, but obviously this shows me what I've missed!
I suppose things like this will keep happening in bujo#1

SoupDragon · 17/02/2016 10:23

Was sceptical at first

You said it was just lists didn't you? Which is absolutely right - that is exactly what it is but they are all in one place and have an index and huge potential for wasting loads of time colouring stuff in and sticking stuff on :o

I think once you stop thinking of it as something magic and think of it as a book of lists and plans in one place, it becomes more understandable.

Bugaboom · 17/02/2016 10:40

My BuJo has worked brilliantly at work. I find I'm much more thoughtful about my day to day to do list especially when there are outstanding tasks from the day before.
I've bought another notebook for home and started a home BuJo. Only problem is I don't have much time with kids, work etc to do my home one so haven't really got into it yet. Am quite pleased though to have done a double page spread on house diy/jobs. I split the spread up and listed all the jobs by room with s/m/l for short medium or long term. Now I just need to win lottery to afford to do any of it!!
