The Hoarders Anonymous Thread Part Two...Still Sorting It Out ~ Together!

Sorting out the home when you're a hoarder (big or small) is never going to be easy and we should know! but having someone else to support you, talk about it with you and make you feel much less of a freak of mother nature makes a huge difference!

If you are any of the following:
A hoarder. In a mess. Untidy. Disorganised. Lazy with housework that has lead to something that you now feel unable to deal with. If you are ill and not coping with the housework. If you are emotionally attached to items for whatever reason. If you have a combination of any or all of these things or something completely different, please join us. No one here will judge you. We have something in common and we have a common goal. We share our ideas and we share our disappointments no matter how big and our celebrations no matter how small.

Welcome to thread number 2! :)

I've got rid of about 30 games in the last couple of days! That's about a seventh of the collection And I actually feel ok about it :)

DH bought me a new one that I've wanted for a couple of years but I feel like I've earned it :o soooo many games leaving. Some chucked (if in bad condition) others I'll give a quick selling attempt then donate. Lego games got tipped into the big Lego tub. I am sure there are still more to get rid of though.

I am really looking forward to arranging what's left too. Should make it a lot easier to see what's available and find etc. We've also cleared a whole shelf which I can put my Lego on (I was given the BBT set as a gift but haven't been able to build it as there was nowhere to put it. I'm hoping to soon clear the top of the cupboard as it looks so messy.

Cagliostro · 30/10/2016 01:14

Beyond love the photos! Great work!

Chin up Solo we will get there in the end we really will.

Thinking I might do the DVD soon, we've been terrible at not putting them away but there's also lots of preschooler stuff that the DCs don't watch

AdoraBell · 30/10/2016 16:00

May I join in please?

Paper. That's my problem.

It's everywhere Blush

Cagliostro · 30/10/2016 16:04

Hey Adora! Come on in :)

Tooootally get you with the paper. It's like rabbits the way it breeds more paper 😳

I've cleared out five bags today that were all stuffed with random crap, wrappers, receipts etc.

Also discussed selling a few little toys which might make a few quid. I'm gradually learning that just because the kids like them doesn't mean they have to keep them if they don't actually play with them!

AdoraBell · 03/11/2016 21:35

Good luck with the toy sales Cag

No progress made at all here. Tomorrow I am going to try to clear a drawer in my desk.

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 04/11/2016 08:43

DH piled empty envelopes and post up on the shelf by our front door already. He is aware that I am unimpressed and is fixing it this morning. Angry

Solo · 04/11/2016 09:56

That's me Beyond Blush I clear and repile.

Cagliostro · 04/11/2016 11:10

Absolutely zero progress here!

Sitting here surveying the mess... got some pupils in a little while so need to actually do something.

Solo · 12/11/2016 00:56

Quiet ub here,,,,,

Babieseverywhere · 18/11/2016 10:18

I am quiet as I am drowning, sigh.

Every time I seem to be getting straight, we have illness, holidays and general failure to do things and get back to a mess.

So I am back to my lists and starting from the start again. Concentrating on bathroom, kitchen and downstairs hall this weekend...wish me luck.

Cagliostro · 21/11/2016 17:08

Hi everyone. It got quiet for me too, although I did do the odd bit here and there. But then at the end of last week something I have been dreading happened... the landlords (normally totally hands off) asked to inspect. BUGGER!

So we are stepping up the effort. Exhausting but needs must.

TBH we want to move anyway so we are trying to look on this as a positive but we were hoping to do it on our own terms not be pushed (they're putting the rent up and we can't afford it).

Solo · 21/11/2016 22:49

Hello ladies! :)
Babies you have always been able to get on top of it and I'm sure you will again Thanks

Cag argh! Bummer or what! Do you know where you will go to?

Moi?! Nope! Well, I put a small pile of clothes away, did more laundry (but I do normally - it's drying it that's the problem there). Dd is all set for her tonsils and adenoids to come out next week, so I'm trying to get into the mindset of getting loads done on the 2 weeks off!

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 21/11/2016 23:47

Oh I hope DD's op goes ok Solo! At least she's young, it's a much quicker recovery on a child apparently so hopefully not too horrible for her. Thanks

We want to move from the immediate area as going past the school pretty much daily is really awful for DD due to the bad memories :( not that we could afford to stay round here anyway! :o (market rent is much much higher than what we pay now) but we don't want to move too far - we've built up a really good group of fellow home educating families and friends, and to lose that would be a disaster frankly. So maybe a different, cheaper part of this town if possible, but we're fairly near Gatwick so prices are high generally. We were considering buying some kind of static caravan but I don't think we could get that sorted so quickly!

Solo · 23/11/2016 23:21

Well all you can do is look first and make plans Cag Thanks: it's a tough choice. A static caravan could work; why don't you make some enquiries? Thanks for the wishes Thanks.

Today I did a bit in the kitchen - a start :)

AdoraBell · 23/11/2016 23:29

Well done Beyond

Still no progress here, too much going on and too much stress from it, so the paper mountain has grown instead of declining.

AdoraBell · 26/11/2016 09:30

I can see my desk ☺ it isn't completely clear but progress has been made.

Yesterday we found items left by previous owners, deceased, on top of a tall cupboard. I wiped the dust off before taking them to the chazza and DH uttered the most hated phrase of hoarders - they might be useful. A buscuit tin and 2 serving platers, one cracked and badly stained in the cracks, ffs.

Solo · 26/11/2016 14:47

Well done AdoraBell! I would struggle too but not if it is damaged!

Ds has moved out again! And I'm not having him back so will be getting rid of all his stuff soon! Well that's the plan! So I should have some kind of space with that :)

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 26/11/2016 17:11

We've got nearly 2 weeks til the landlords visit. Relieved they didn't pick the earlier date option!

We've been trying to get rid of plenty today and have tidied a reasonable amount too but it's still 'drop in the ocean' territory.

DH went up in the loft (the plan was to shove stuff up there if they were coming really soon Blush) and oh god the horror! So much manky stuff that we'd totally forgotten about.

Solo · 28/11/2016 23:51

Oh! The loft! That's an evil place isn't it? You will be fine though Cag you really will Thanks.
Dd's op went well. Extremely large tonsils and adenoids; tonsils badly infected apparently. Loads of pain meds and antibiotics. She's been very good bless her.

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 28/11/2016 23:56

Aw poor thing :( still, can only get better now they're out.

Very slowly doing more decluttering and organising but it's far easier to throw myself into Christmas shopping (online. Because flare up) than do anything useful.

We are going to the council tomorrow to see if they can help with the housing situation.

Solo · 29/11/2016 23:43

Good luck Cag :)

OP posts:
Solo · 03/12/2016 14:17

Hi everyone, how are you doing>?

OP posts:
Cagliostro · 03/12/2016 21:19

I'm not :( which is not good because less than a week til landlords come

Cagliostro · 03/12/2016 21:31

And the council wouldn't see us because there were too many people there already. But still won't let people make an actual appointment

Solo · 04/12/2016 10:48

Aw Cag :( . I am so glad I don't have that particular worry about the landlord visits. I also feel for you re the council. I know how hard it's been for my brother and his gf.
