Sorting out the home when you're a hoarder (big or small) is never going to be easy and we should know! but having someone else to support you, talk about it with you and make you feel much less of a freak of mother nature makes a huge difference!

If you are any of the following:
A hoarder. In a mess. Untidy. Disorganised. Lazy with housework that has lead to something that you now feel unable to deal with. If you are ill and not coping with the housework. If you are emotionally attached to items for whatever reason. If you have a combination of any or all of these things or something completely different, please join us. No one here will judge you. We have something in common and we have a common goal. We share our ideas and we share our disappointments no matter how big and our celebrations no matter how small.

Welcome to thread number 2! :)

Hi Angel welcome to our thread :)

I don't have many dvd's (a dozen maybe) and cd's are in cabinets, but still don't have that many at all. My addictions are fabrics and yarns and goodness knows what else! I think I just keep everything and am an emotional hoarder. Not good.

I'm having a flare up too Cag but pushing to keep going with work. Yesterday I moved some clothes around again Blush. I'm so sick of this messy life!

I'd forgotten I was on this thread. I'm not making much progress, but I am moving forward. I've been trying to get rid of some stuff each week, at least the amount that would fill a small carrier bag. It doesn't mean that I see a radical difference but at least I know I've done something. Over the last few weeks I've emptied and cleaned a few kitchen cupboards. It doesn't sound like much, but I've been forced to remove everything from the cupboards and some stuff has been chucked in the bin.

Solo · 08/10/2016 01:07

Small progress is still progress apples so well done and welcome back :)

It might sound like the opposite of progress hoarding-wise, but I have bought new bedding for the spare room. Plan is, if the bed looks pretty I'll be less inclined to dump stuff on there!! :)

Hi just wanted to pop in and say keep going as although it will take a while you will have a nice space at the end of the process. Somebody asked how you stay organised , the answer is that everything has to have a place, so that even if the house gets messy you can quickly put
things away. Store like with like and sort by category so if you are doing stationary group it all together and then decide what to keep and throw ; If you allocate a drawer for it, if while you are sorting another category you find some cellotape then you know where it goes.

Sorted some clothing today; put into wardrobes, but I'm running out of space.............

Drop in the ocean though. Sadly!

Thanks for the welcome Smile

I've just put another 160 discs in two more cases and ordered 4 more Blush it does feel good getting rid of another 3 sackfuls of cases though and seeing more space on the bookshelf Grin

Hi all. Went away for a few days and fell off the thread!

It's a bit of a cliche perhaps but we've come back from our little trip inspired to step up the decluttering.

Solo · 19/10/2016 23:09

Good on you Cag :) I just need time!!!

Cagliostro · 25/10/2016 22:39

It took me a week to actually translate that inspiration into action! I stupidly bought the kids a teddy each (they love beanie boos and they were on offer) but eagle eyed DD spotted them before I put them away for xmas. So I said they could have them on condition of sorting their room out and in particular choosing 3 teddies each to get rid of. So they've been doing that the last couple of days and we have joined in - both got rid of some clothes (some of it for me was my work stuff which I do wear some of as it's super comfy but most of it has just sat unworn and making me sad) and big textiles like blankets etc. I've cut up lots of fabric for DD and chucked the straggly bits, fastenings etc. It's quite pleasing seeing a lovely neat pile of folded fabrics in various colours and patterns!

I am itching to get rid of some board games but I am too much of a wimp to do so without trying most of them out first! There are a few from charity shops etc that I didn't think much of on the first play, so they've sat unused but I CAN'T just ditch them without knowing we've given them a good try! :(

Looking good. I'm still making baby steps forward and getting rid of something each week. So far I can see a bit of progress, but it is going to take a long time at this rate.

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 26/10/2016 19:41

Little steps are better than nothing :) I tend to do nothing for ages and then go loopy!

Ikea trip today so have a new unit to go at the bottom of the stairs to tackle the pile of shoes and bags

Cagliostro · 26/10/2016 21:27

Wow looking good! :)

This morning we had to look for something so we sorted through some of the bags full of random crap (these occur when we are 'panic tidying' before people come round) and ditched plenty.

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 26/10/2016 21:48

I really should have taken a 'before' picture to get the full effect Grin

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 26/10/2016 21:49

(You couldn't get past the doorway)

Cagliostro · 27/10/2016 13:49

I always wonder about doing that but I'm far too embarrassed Blush :o

Had an epic lie in today so haven't done anything in the house.

Cagliostro · 28/10/2016 01:42

I have written a list of 25 games I am considering getting rid of. Some we need to play first but others I am actually cool with just ditching... this is huge for me!

homeaway · 28/10/2016 08:37

Be brave and ditch the ones that you have not played. Get them out the house ASAP.

Cagliostro · 28/10/2016 19:43

Step too far for me I'm afraid! I have ASD and I know I would fixate on what I have possibly missed by not trying it. I know my limits and that is it sadly.

I am getting rid of some without playing them though, ones we used to play in the past, which is an achievement in itself!

Cagliostro · 28/10/2016 21:40

Oh actually. I had a brief look at some of the games, read the instructions etc (DH is working late so can't play them properly).

I am getting rid of some. It's ok. It's actually ok! Wow!

BeyondReasonablyDoubts · 29/10/2016 11:59

Not finished, but....

Cag, all of my board games are under the spare bed - I couldn't get rid of any Grin
