New thread for Kondo addicts.

Sorry I can't do all the links that were on the top of thread 7.

I've gone through two (proper heavy duty) ones for the table then realised I was 'saving' the immaculate surface of an otherwise knackered table.
Got a pre-worn (!) table off freecycle and binned the tablecloths. They were never quite the right size and I hated sitting down with the cold cloth against my knees.
Now if anything gets on the table it doesn't matter. One day I may invest in a new lively perfect table and stress about it unlikely but for now it's a weight off.

BrandNewIggi · 07/05/2015 17:37

I love my oilcloth cover, you can get dear ones in John Lewis or cheap ones on ebay. The dcs have discovered you can draw on it with felt pens and it wipes off - hope they don't try that with GP's lace one!

Iqueen · 07/05/2015 17:57

I'm glad you've all worked out solutions for your dining tables! Smile

For my 50th, my adult children took me out for a 'posh' lunch. I was mortified as my 26 year-old daughter scattered peas aound her plate!

Later, she claimed that I had never taught her how to eat peas properly... ! I did teach my children table manners at an early age, so I don't know how peas rolled under the radar! Grin

Wow, that fb group is quite scary! Yes it would be lovely to have a proper uk group! I started on my fabric stash last night, kept about half and the rest I have given away to friends who sew. Very heartwarming! I took a load more to the charity shop last night, including a boden coat that is too big for me and that I was fully intending to sell, but MK got the better of me Shock

Starface · 09/05/2015 09:55

This has gone very quiet.

I am guessing it's the election. I have had a shockingly awful week on many levels. i feel angry, disappointed and frustrated in so many areas of my life at the moment.

The only response is Maya Angelou: still I rise.

I am hatching plans to kondo larger joyless things, but it takes time... as this week demonstrates, so much is out of my control.

I need life-changing magic more than ever. My only update is that I sold a 4 inch thick mattress topper. It was huge and I'm so glad it's gone. It was fairly new but hubby loathed it so it went the way of other joyless things. This week I am tackling the eBay pile. And today we are going for a walk on the beach to kondo the cobwebs in my mind and try to find my equilibrium again.

thatstoast · 09/05/2015 10:52

I am still working through paper. I think I've ditched about 2 big bags so far.

Iqueen · 09/05/2015 11:00

Starface

Sorry to hear that you've had a carp week. I hope the walk on the beach will help clear your thoughts. Flowers

JKSLtd · 09/05/2015 15:22

I'm hoping to get back onto the wagon properly next week. Pil have headed home and dh is working away next week so once the kids at in school I have the place to myself yey.

thatstoast · 09/05/2015 16:03

I am learning! I just filled out my tax credit form which I had put in a preliminary 'to do' pile. When I'd finished I went to put all the guidance forms and extra leaflets/envelopes that they send in my 'to keep' envelope. As I was doing it I had a moment of kondo-inspiration and then put them straight in the recycling.

educatingarti · 09/05/2015 17:58

Evening everyone!

So - I've had a week of no progress until today when I took 2 large bags of stuff to the chazza. This included some quite nice things that I'd been thinking I'd try and sell, only I haven't done it and they've been collecting dust in the spare doom. So today - had a sudden fit of kondoing and to the chazza they went!

CycleChic · 09/05/2015 20:57

well done, toast, on both the one to-do and the straight-to-the recycling of the extra leaflets etc!

No real progress here, I'm just getting progressively annoyed at the State of my lounge.

prettymess · 10/05/2015 09:35

Started on CDs. Separated them into DH's, mine and both. There's some in the loft, so not done but it's great to have the ones in the living room in boxes and all in their cases.

prettymess · 10/05/2015 09:36

Pic!

I want to get loads on my phone though and that'll take time.

prettymess · 10/05/2015 10:57

Gone through our few blurays. Three up for sale on Amazon and going to actually watch the others!

BertieBotts · 10/05/2015 11:01

I really want to finally finish the paper today but DH is insisting we all go for a bike ride. Hmm

Rummikub · 10/05/2015 12:44

Hello :)

Well I finally took the bags to the charity textiles bin. There must've been over ten carrier bags. So glad they're out the spare room.

I love the pic prettymess.

Rummikub · 10/05/2015 12:47

Oh and a bag of kids clothes to someone in work. I much prefer passing clothes on like that.

NotCitrus · 10/05/2015 14:28

I've been slowed down by various things but we have been kondoing cars - our old banger is being scrapped as soon as the insurers confirm paperwork, and a friend who was about to scrap his has given it to me, so we just have to pay for the MOT. Hopefully that will keep us going until we save up for a newer one.

Otherwise some plastic tat has been ditched, and the kids are being trained to keep drawing stuff in a certain drawer theycan reach, as the craft drawer was overflowing.

BrandNewIggi · 10/05/2015 15:02

Is there a chapter on kimono in the book? I have it, but am wondering if I ever reached the end! I feel like I'm drowning in the bits and pieces of stuff - mostly toy related, but also things like screws and Allen keys. I tried to kondo the cleaning supplies under the sink today - didn't throw much out in the end but I'm now aware what's in there and I won't need to buy bleach or light bulbs for a long time!

BertieBotts · 10/05/2015 18:44

I don't have mine to hand, but the chapters are short and the chapter headings descriptive - dig it out and have a look :) It's worth rereading at various points part way through the process anyway.

If you have extra of stuff that you think you're unlikely to need, perhaps you could donate it? It's fine though IMO if it's consumables which are likely to be needed. If you have several Allen keys the same size, that's quite useful - if you're ever building a piece of furniture with a friend it's useful to be able to use the same tool at the same time. Although someone on the FB group the other day said they had enough screwdrivers "for everyone in the family to be building one piece of furniture with each hand all at once, and some left over!" Grin

BrandNewIggi · 10/05/2015 19:28

Oh Bertie I'm just being lazy, I should look through the book shouldn't I? In my defence, it is on the kindle so not as easy to flick through - but I could do a search!
I have a large bottle of fabric softener with just a little bit gone, from before I remembered it irritated me! - who on earth could I give it to? Theoretically, I could have doctored it with something as it is open.

BertieBotts · 10/05/2015 20:06

Oh yes kindle is even easier, do a search :)

Fabric softener, put on freecycle or offer to neighbours/mum/friend? I don't think people will really be worried about doctoring, who would bother?

BertieBotts · 10/05/2015 20:06

Fabric softener isn't really usually sealed in the shop anyway, is it? I always smell it in the shop first!

Starface · 10/05/2015 22:59

Thanks iqueen. beach was actually miserable. Glorious everywhere else but raining and windy at the beach. Says it all really!

Anyway, feeling much better today. Kondoed some weeds and some jobs in the house.
