I kept on to a lot of that paperwork. Maybe I need to go through again :(

Starface · 05/05/2015 15:51

I have to say, I held on to old p45s, p60s and some payslips. Things have changed a lot over the years and I want proof of where I worked and particularly what pension contributions I made after hearing some horror stories. When discussed earlier, others made different choices to me. Tax office recommends 6 years, but tax is not my only consideration.

Never come up as an issue for me but I'd be tempted to keep the tax credit stuff for a bit because I would be scared they would cocktail something up and I'd need details.

Old passports I've kept for sentimental Category.

I'd personally keep the contract for current job. no basis for that, I just would.

Will post again if there's anything else - I can't see your post it's on another page and I'll lose this if I check!

Starface · 05/05/2015 15:53

I'd chuck the tenancy agreement and the old bills. But never had to prove residency so no experience to draw on, not very reliable advice!

prettymess · 05/05/2015 17:23

Cupboard under stairs done. DD helped me.

And we've lit some tea lights in the living room as we've enough for a month's power cut!

Iqueen · 05/05/2015 20:13

If it were me, Bertie, I would keep them all. They don't appear to be too space-consuming.

Trouble with 'important' paperwork is, we don't know why we might need it, right now. We will only find out later, when we need to prove something, and that might be difficult, expensive, or impossible! Sad

BertieBotts · 05/05/2015 21:15

True! It's annoying me though! Especially the old tenancy agreement, that can definitely go.

I have a gem to bring you from the facebook group, it's a Japanese dramatisation, a sort of "how to" of the book. It's hilarious! It's in Japanese but has subtitles. Definitely one to watch after drinking whatever is in the Kondoed alcohol cabinet Wink

Part One

Part Two

And I am childishly amused that the title translates to "The Magic of The Life Heart-Throbbing Clean-Up Company"

CycleChic · 06/05/2015 06:02

I wondered about what papers to keep, too. There really aren't any good articles online about this (that I could find! ). My inexpert opinion:

  • Old tax credit award notices. Keep?
  • Expired, cancelled passports.destroy safely or keep forever.
  • Tenancy agreement from previous home (I have the statement of on-time rent payments separately).bin.
  • Old payslips, P45s and P60s. Keep the payslips for 6 years, the p45s and p60s forever.
  • Contract from my current job which has now expired and been replaced. Why would youneed an expired and replaced contract? !? Keep the current one, bin the expired one says she who has contracts from former jobs
  • A couple of paid utility bills from the UK to show that at one point I paid bills there. (Well over 6 months old, so useless?). Why/how would this benefit you?

I think you said that you had stuff to translate before you could decide whether to keep or bin? Id suggest keeping the translations with each paper you keep so you don't have to do that again :)

No movement of Konodoing for me sadly. And my lounge is a tip so ordinary tidying has to come first :(

educatingarti · 06/05/2015 11:06

Is there a link for the facebook page?

BertieBotts · 06/05/2015 11:21

www.facebook.com/groups/KonmariAdventures

It is really overwhelming, though. Expect it to totally take over your facebook. Just so many posts. Turn off notifications! There are smaller groups listed in a file on the page, I haven't looked at any but here:

www.facebook.com/groups/851704521571914/ - Straight up, ie strict KonMari.

www.facebook.com/groups/732274083555704/ - KonMari meets interior design.

www.facebook.com/groups/1428396537451822/ - General group (smaller - 2000 members rather than nearly 9000)

www.facebook.com/groups/934679423231374/ - Flexi-konmari (using some but not all principles, I think)

www.facebook.com/groups/KonmariAdventuresMeetup/ - Meet up group to find local people.

I've actually had people on the large group offer to translate my letters for me :) it's really flooding my facebook at the moment, which is okay for me, because I use FB a lot anyway, and it's pretty motivating that it's there all the time keeping me going, so I expect I'll leave the group when the process is over, but I'm finding it quite good for now.

Right I have bought a frame today and I'm going to attempt to turn a couple of DS' old tops into a beautiful pinboard which will spark joy!

educatingarti · 06/05/2015 11:44

Thanks - I think I need to be overwhelmed!

Fresh01 · 06/05/2015 13:53

I have read the book and been lurking for a while.... I'm not following the order in the book but have done kids clothes and the odd kitchen drawer etc when I can fit it in.

I have 3 child-free hours this Friday morning and want to do my own clothes but not sure what best to do to maximise the 3 hours eg. Current clothes, summer clothes in a cupboard in my son's room, shoes or what??? I know I have shorts that don't quite fit as still have a bit of extra weight after DC4 (she is only 3 is my excuse : ) ) so do I keep them or ditch them? Any suggestions?

prettymess · 06/05/2015 15:56

I had a friend come over unexpectedly and the house didn't embarrass me!

prettymess · 06/05/2015 16:11

The FB group is very busy. It surprised me. I had a turn off the notifications. Shame there isn't a UK one.

BertieBotts · 06/05/2015 17:15

I bet if you start one, Pretty, you'd get people joining.

BertieBotts · 06/05/2015 17:17

www.facebook.com/Konmariuk?fref=ts KonMari UK fan club (page, not group)

www.facebook.com/groups/245861798947105/?fref=ts Smaller group, found by searching "life changing magic of tidying"

You have to check the group settings on Facebook, I think.

BertieBotts · 06/05/2015 19:30

Yep. Closed = people can see that you're a member (although I've never actually been faced with seeing what groups my friends are in unless I'm in a related group and it gets suggested to me). Posts made to the group with the default setting (friends only) will be only visible to other members, not your normal friends. I don't think you can make public posts on these groups, but unsure.

Open (world symbol) = all posts are open and may appear on your friends' news feeds.

Secret = group is unsearchable, you can only join if you're invited kind of thing. Nobody can see you're a member, nobody outside the group sees posts.

Good idea to check what you're commenting on too. Anything with a world symbol can appear in your friends' news feeds saying "lapomme commented on this"

thatstoast · 06/05/2015 21:33

I'm proud to say after encouragement from this thread I have started on paper. I really need instructions for anti viral software from 2003, right?

Iqueen · 07/05/2015 12:14

thatstoast Confused???

You are hoping to find the instructions in the paper pile/s? (Good luck with that!)

Or you need help from OPs?

Until 3 years ago, I was still using Win 98, with rapidly diminishing compatible software and peripheral options! It was some relief to discover that my old desk top was becoming safer and safer, because new viruses and threats were being directed at modern computers and software! Hmm

prettymess · 07/05/2015 13:15

Making progress in the kitchen. The placemats though are not bringing joy. I have to wash them daily with my messy kids. I'm going to buy a PVC cover for the table. The coffee maker broke and I'm back to pouring it the old fashioned way, but I prefer it! The Thermos was in the loft and finally being used again. DD loves it for her many cups of tea.

Just joking. The anti virus thing was something I found. I no longer have the software or the hardware so why I'd kept the instructions for 12 years and across four or five house moves is beyond me. It's embarrassing really. I still have lots more paper to get through.

Kitchen looks good, pretty. I keep meaning to get a PVC cover for my table.

Iqueen · 07/05/2015 14:19

PVC cover for my table

Don't do it, girls! Unless you get a heavy-weight (like the old-fashioned oil-cloth!) The light-weight ones are too flimsy and more work.

'Nother thought! You could get a roll of banquet paper table-cloth, then, clean piece each time, no washing/wiping, just compost/bin it! Bio-degradeable too! Grin

prettymess · 07/05/2015 15:24

Oh no :/ I might have to stick with my placemats until the kids stop spilling. The 13 y old is the worst, but 8y old gets more crumbs on the floor.
