Fledglings are Flying into February

Welcome to the February Fledglings thread. Before we get started we have some important notices?:

  1. The Fledglings are a long running thread, some of us have known each other for several years but newcomers are always welcome.
  1. We follow the Flylady way (somewhat flexibly) and we adapt it to suit our lives and needs. That also means we chat a lot too, it is a general thread about life, as well as Flylady.

So the fly lady system there are rules and we have adaptations.?

  1. NO perfectionism - life’s too short.?
  2. Something is better than nothing and sometimes good enough really is good enough.?
  3. This is not about the housework, it is about having more time to do fun stuff. Don't ever feel guilty about doing stuff with the kids over doing the housework. The kids are more important.??And the practical adaptations.
  4. For newbies to the Flylady site and system everything you need will be posted here in the form of links. The homes is divided into zones where we spend one week each on a monthly basis. Within the zones we do babysteps and decluttering - the babysteps are little daily habits to get into, decluttering speaks for itself. As we progress we start doing missions (a more in depth task in that weeks zone). We may even get to detailed cleaning once we have decluttered. There are also daily tasks, on a weekly basis.

WARNING: Unless you want a very cluttered inbox full of gushing quotes and testimonials DO NOT subscribe to the Flylady emails from the site.

So, welcome on board and lets get Flying in February!

It wasn't a burst pipe, it was a crack in the bath. Confused So we needn't have turned the water off after all. Oh well, better safe than sorry I guess.

Still, going to be about a week before we have a properly functioning bathroom.

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 08/02/2015 14:23

See this is what I was trying to explain to the newbies PMPY it was bad real bad, so i am trying to limit name changes to about 1 every 3 months. I was very good last year and there was only 3 so it was definitely time.

SHocking night's sleep. Too much coffee yesterday, and very annoying ear earache. But it is sunday and there is stuff to do to get ready for tomo. Massive pile of folding and ironing for a start and I should really get hold of what is going on with my car. It is messy inside and horribly muddy outside. Needs to be done. Probably won't be but never mind.

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 08/02/2015 15:25

I am still 6kg off pre ds weight and that is 10 years on Engels Envy Well done

I have just made a really smart spread sheet to track my weight, it does trend lines and everything on the chart Decided I need to go back to using MFP to avoid crash and burn on over exercising. Sorry to those who are my friend on there. It will probably get silly for a while until I get my head sorted and completely out me on how bad I am at crash and burn I actually am.

CallingAllEngels · 08/02/2015 17:42

I never lost the last 5kg from ds1 bitchy so quite some way to go to get to pre-kids!

I lost my baby weight within a week both times! But I lost my appetite during pregnancies and only put on about a stone and a half each time. And I was 3 stone overweight before I even got pregnant and still am. However I joined a thread on here in November and have made some really good changes to my diet and the weight is slowly starting to come off. It's low carbing (but not full on bootcamp style, just cutting them back significantly). I did try MFP again for a couple of days a few weeks ago, but it didn't last, I just don't think it's the system for me, I get obsessed with what I'm eating when I have to log it.

Bitchy - I have figured out why I can't figure out what's going on at the ice hockey. Where we sit (behind a goal, we go on a subsidised school scheme so no choice) you can't make out a word the tannoy says, you can barely hear it at all. Apparently if you sit at the sides everything is explained as the game goes along.

Blue - sorry to hear about your bath, what a pain. Do you have another one, or a shower you can use till it's fixed?

Mixed day here, we all faffed about a lot this morning, till DH and I had to leave the house or start screaming at each other, so he took the DCs for a walk to the park and I went to the allotment for an hour. There has been so much going on lately that it was really good to get out and clear my head a bit. Other than that, DS has finally moved back to his own room after a few years sharing with DD, which is quite good, they need their own space and it means we can't use the spare bed as a dumping ground for clean laundry any more. So, lots of laundry done and put away this weekend, but not a lot else.

Links in a minute.

I have a further 5+kg to get down to pre surgery weight - which would be my ultimate goal. It would be nice, but with a pretty much ban on exercise i fear that it might be a bit too optomistic. :(

Ta da
sleep
read mn and watch tv
play some board games with ds.

pushmepullyou · 08/02/2015 22:45

Y'know my list? gps off colour so took dc out for the day so DH could get the house more photo-ready than it was.

Words cannot express how badly that has gone. Me, a 3 year old and a 6 yr old would have made a better job of it. The house is phenomenally worse than when we left it. He has spent the day half painting s too that didn't need painting to run out of paint, go to b&q and find that the paint he used for half of each of the 4 walls has been discontinued so we have to paint it all again. No tidying, cleaning or decluttering achieved and significantly more decorating to do than we started with this morning.

I am quite cross'

pushmepullyou · 08/02/2015 22:46

Sorry, half painting a room

pushmepullyou · 08/02/2015 22:50

He didn't buy an alternative paint either so we have to do that, and work a full day tomorrow. Plus I have a governors meeting tomorrow evening so won't be home until 9:30.
And I haven't had any tea because of a complicated set of circumstances that are all his fault

And relax 2, 3....

(I do have wine though so all is not lost)

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 08/02/2015 23:18

I hope that is a lot of Wine Pmpy Shock

Happy birthday saymwa Flowers

LinzerTorte · 09/02/2015 08:36

Happy birthday, Saymwa!

Just back from food shopping - it's miserable out: snowing, very cold and windy (there was a mass pile-up on the motorway yesterday involving 50 vehicles; we drove into Vienna and it really wasn't pleasant). I hope swan is enjoying better weather; the wind blowing all the snow into your face isn't very nice. I remember a friend telling me a few years ago about how it was so cold that she and her DC were standing on the ski slopes crying; it confirmed to me that I've made the right decision to stay away from skiing. Grin (I'm handily ignoring everyone I know who loves it - they love it normally too, in fact.)

hanbee · 09/02/2015 09:42

Happy birthday Saymwa, as someone who has sat waiting for results of scans, and still does annually, I offer a big understanding hug.

Pmpy, I hope you're DH did some major sucking up after the half painting incident? Is it possible to get one of the stores to mix a paint to match what he's done so you don't have tons more to do?

Feeling quite smug as DH did a huge pile of ironing last night whilst I chatted to friend on the phone and watched call the midwife. Obviously my moan that he said he would iron 2 duvet covers for me but then left them in the wash basket for 10 days until I gave up all hope and did them myself, hit home after all! It was good end to 3 days of looking after unwell and unhappy DS1, who thankfully was well enough for school this morning.

Ta da

Both children ready and out on time today
washing up done
Kitchen table cleaned
5 mins hot spot

To do

put ironing away
15 mins declutter - finally put box of the boys Christmas things in the cellar, collecting up the various bits DS2 has taken out of the box in the last month "because he loves them".
sweep and steam clean the kitchen floor

Better get on as DS2 only at playgroup until 12.

BlueEyeshadow · 09/02/2015 11:11

Happy Birthday saymwa! Cake Flowers and Wine for later.

WhoKnows the shower is over the bath, so using it carefully with application of gaffer tape and a bowl beneath to catch the drips!

catg83 · 09/02/2015 12:08

Had a really lovely weekend relaxing with OH and DS. Even got to watch Inception during DS nap and feeding.
TaDa
Washing on rack
Nappy wash on
Washing up done
DS and me washed and dressed

ToDo
Nappies on rack
Next load of washing on
Put away washing up
Go to BIBS group
Kitchen floor (bleugh)
Clean one wall in prep for painting

LinzerTorte · 09/02/2015 13:31

Thanks for the warming Brew, Blue - just what I needed after 45 minutes of snow shovelling. We've had a good 8-10 inches now and it's still coming down; clearing it all is backbreaking work when it's that deep, although at least one of the other neighbours came out to help.

Failed to get lunch cooked in time as some urgent work arrived, but luckily we had some takeaway (meat) pizza left over from yesterday so that did for DD1 and DS; DD2 has decided she wants to try being a vegetarian so I defrosted a meal from the freezer for her. Will be interesting to see whether she lasts longer than DS!

Fizrim · 09/02/2015 14:44

Happy birthday Saymwa!

Not much progress here today, DD off school sick - she's had a bad cold all weekend and has spent most of the day in bed so far. Just think of the extra workout I'm getting running up and down the stairs (she's come down now, so there's a blessing!).

Kitchen floor today eh, will get to that later.

Slingclutter · 09/02/2015 16:12

[crawls out from behind large cushion in naughty corner to wish Saymwa a very Happy Birthday!! Thanks Hope you have a lovely time tonight.]

Absolutely cream crackered today and pretending to myself that I am Flying, when I am actually getting very little done. Weekend was a great success though. Had ten 10/11 yr old girls here baking cakes Sat. And two stayed for pizza and sleepover. There was a lot of giggling and shrieking and running around until about 11.30pm (which is when I suggested that they might like to get in to their beds and start to settle down) but they continued talking (apparently) until about 1am and then they were up again at 7.30 am. Made a big breakfast then we played lots of board games until the end of the morning when we delivered them home. DD went back to bed as soon as they had gone and is still tired today judging by extreme after school- grumpiness. Can't blame her though as I am feeling rather grumpy too!

Spent today dropping off a parcel to someone, doing laundry, ironing and making veg soup.. Should have hoovered entire house but CBA. Should have cooked beef shin but ditto.

Hope your dd recovers soon Fizrim!

Great that you were able to relax a bit this w/e Catg83

Hanbee good that ds1 restored to full health; very happy to hear that I am not the only one to finally, finally, finally be putting away tiny last vestiges of Christmas (ie threw away the nuts we never ate on Sat, and stuffed last few bits and bobs in decoration boxes that have only made it up to 2nd floor landing Blush)

Linzer agree, like the idea of skiing better than the reality! Hope Swan is having a good time though!

Oh gawd Pushmethat painting saga sounds absolutely awful!! And its exactly the sort of thing my dh would do . It's so discouraging when you are trying to get things to look better! Hope it can be resolved without too many more hassles!!

Hope plumbing issues can be resolved soon Blue

Whoknows I hope your father continues to improve

Big waves to Whispers Toffee Bitchy Goth Shannara Carpe Engels Greymalkin Ellie Honu Feeheart and everyone I've missed

Thoughts turning to weight loss here. Same old story I'm afraid. Still trying to lose 10kg. Trying to lessen portion sizes at the moment not very successfully. Starting properly on Wed 18th.

Had better go. Ballet bun calling.

Saymwa · 09/02/2015 17:18

Hello Folkies,

Thanks for the birthday wishes and again for the kind words about waiting for the scan results. I really appreciate it. Reading all about these poorly kiddies, I do hope that they all get better very soon. And I hope that your father is too Whynot. As for poorly baths and half- painted walls , well I do hope you get them sorted quickly too, Blue and PMPM.

I just remembered that people are paying good money to have a taste of what you're living in at the moment Linzer - how about offering to house swap with one of them for a while Smile.

Can I just ask why you're in the naughty corner Sling ? It sounds to me more like you deserve a medal rather than a telling off Smile. Thanks for the flowers and here are some for you . Thanks

Well here, still got to catch up on work so back to it all for another hour before going out.

Hope you all have a good evening Grin
