Welcome to the February Fledglings thread. Before we get started we have some important notices?:

  1. The Fledglings are a long running thread, some of us have known each other for several years but newcomers are always welcome.
  1. We follow the Flylady way (somewhat flexibly) and we adapt it to suit our lives and needs. That also means we chat a lot too, it is a general thread about life, as well as Flylady.

So the fly lady system there are rules and we have adaptations.?

  1. NO perfectionism - life’s too short.?
  2. Something is better than nothing and sometimes good enough really is good enough.?
  3. This is not about the housework, it is about having more time to do fun stuff. Don't ever feel guilty about doing stuff with the kids over doing the housework. The kids are more important.??And the practical adaptations.
  4. For newbies to the Flylady site and system everything you need will be posted here in the form of links. The homes is divided into zones where we spend one week each on a monthly basis. Within the zones we do babysteps and decluttering - the babysteps are little daily habits to get into, decluttering speaks for itself. As we progress we start doing missions (a more in depth task in that weeks zone). We may even get to detailed cleaning once we have decluttered. There are also daily tasks, on a weekly basis.

WARNING: Unless you want a very cluttered inbox full of gushing quotes and testimonials DO NOT subscribe to the Flylady emails from the site.

So, welcome on board and lets get Flying in February!

BlueEyeshadow · 10/02/2015 07:52

Argh! Anyone got any tips for getting the smell of wee out of a small boy's mattress??!

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 10/02/2015 09:10

Bicarb of soda. Sprinkle onto dry matress leave to soak, hoover up after a while.

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 10/02/2015 10:06

I am making today errand day

ToffeeWhirl · 10/02/2015 12:56

I agree with Bitchy, Blue. I used Bitchy's tip to get rid of the smell of vomit after a nasty bout of norovirus swept through our family and it did the trick.

Up early this morning to wave my mum off on her trip. That reminds me, DS2 and I are going to follow her plane on an online flight tracking thingy - am counting it as a Geography lesson.

Been to the docs about something and picked up some nice lunch stuff on the way home. Was a novelty to be out alone (DH was at home with the boys).

I can hear DH tidying up the bedroom Shock.

About to start home ed.

BlueEyeshadow · 10/02/2015 12:57

Thanks Bitchy, as soon as I posted, I thought bicarb would be the answer!

Greymalkin · 10/02/2015 15:58

Just slinking in to say hello and to keep myself from falling off the thread again. Sickgate has continued...

Student248 · 10/02/2015 16:37

Also slinking in, though not with such a good excuse as Grey. Just ... too much to do /being inefficient.

Was v impressed with my 13yo DD1 yesterday. I was going out in the eve and she and I got back late from the stables, so I grabbed 3 ready meals from the shop for the family to eat, left them in the kitchen and dashed out of the door. Later on I got back to an immaculate kitchen worktop, and it turns out that DD had done all the food and cleared up, decluttered and cleaned the worktop afterwards and rearranged where several things are kept! She's now being very bossy about us having to keep it clean and tidy! Grin

BlessThisMess · 10/02/2015 16:39

Oops, name change fail. That was me. Smile

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 10/02/2015 17:45

Saymwa · 10/02/2015 18:04

I must tell you that this started with that anti-procrastinating day ( Wednesday - if I remember it right ) and as a result I made a long awaited appointment for a routine checkup. The envelope had been waiting on my kitchen table for several months and I had assumed that I was not in any danger and just didn't get around to it.

Along comes anti- procrastination day and I finally get around to making my appointment. At the appointment the radiologist was horrible, refusing to answer any of my questions and talking out loud saying terribly pessimistic things about what she saw. She told me to go to my doctor's urgently and I went straight away.

He was furious with the radiologist and booked me in for an urgent scan and then a biopsy. The results of all that have come back. I was so scared but I am really glad I followed the flylady anti-procrastinating about that appointment. And , also I really urge everyone on the thread to not delay these type of appointments.

Blue, I never did manage to get to the swimmimg pool that afternoon. So, it's still on the agenda and I'm still really looking forward to seeing that sun streaming through the windows on a winter's day.

LinzerTorte · 10/02/2015 19:49

Great news, Saymwa - that must be a weight off your mind. Smile

No Flying to report here; I seem to spend all morning working and then all afternoon chauffeuring the DC to various activities once they've finished their homework. DD2 is trying out yoga tomorrow; the classes are in the next town and I have to take DS to scouts in between, so I wouldn't be too upset if she decided not to go (but as she's going with a school friend, I doubt that will be the case).

BlessThisMess · 10/02/2015 20:32

Saymwa I am so glad all is well!

Fizrim · 10/02/2015 21:05

Good news Saymwa! And I hope it's just as good in another three month check as well!

Not a great deal of flying here today, spend some time fruitlessly trying to get another laptop working. DD has recovered fantastically well from her cold and even went swimming tonight. The running-child-around (and the resulting waiting around while she does the activity) is beginning to get me down a bit. I'll read the KonMari book again tomorrow night I think! Might be time to start making lists and a control journal - I always say I'll do one and never have. Has anyone ever made a control journal?

Managed to clean up after tea and got DD to do her violin practice/reading etc. Main lounge/diner could do with a bit of work, though! Always tomorrow ...

BitchyDoesWitchyThings · 10/02/2015 21:24

Yes. i put it somewhere safe. Oops?

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/02/2015 22:36

Well done to your DD Bless - Flylady's ways are obviously filtering through!

Saymwa - thank you for sharing those details, it's good that anti-procrastination day finally led to the news you got today, I'm sorry it was such a traumatic journey to get there.

Linzer / Fizrim - my DCs have a hectic evening schedule, it does wear me out a bit but luckily everything is very close to home and I either come back or natter with other parents, luckily it all works out so the other DC never has to wait with me. It is pretty full on though.

Sorry to hear about wet mattresses / sick children.

Toffee - those flight tracker things are great, love things like that. Have you watched any more of The Good Wife? I'm watching an episode of S5 every night to try and catch up, it's just as good as ever.

*Bitchy8 - hope you have managed your restful evening, good list for today.

Quite a productive day here today, my day off work, so I do try and do home blessing. Also went to pilates, did more bleach and bicarb pasting of silicone gel round uPVC windows, made a couple of phone calls, took some stuff to the tip, supervised homework and managed an hour of OU work just now.

Right, limks coming up

Evening all. Sorry to hear about so many poorly dcs. Wishing speedy recoveries for them all.

And sorry puke-fest continuing in your household Greymalkin. That sounds v. grim.

Saymwa so pleased that scan results are finally through, that the horrible waiting is over, and most importantly, all is well!!! Really happy for you Thanks Brilliant news!!!! (And sorry to hear the radiologist was so awful in the first place, which must have made the whole experience so much worse.)

(And thanks for Thanks down thread. I guess I put myself in the naughty corner for inconsistency. I have a horrible habit of letting things slide in between social events. My big Flying challenge is to keep up standards when no one is here to see it except dh, dd and me Blush.

Speaking of letting things slide, I have done not a lot of Flying for two days Blush although I did read a lot today and made a very good beef shin dish which was delicious and very economical (even if I do say it myself)

Well done to your dd Bless!!!

Good you got a tiny bit of time alone ¨Toffee - hats off to you for coping with so little - I would find that v. hard indeed.

Big waves to all Fledglings!! G'night!

BlessThisMess · 11/02/2015 10:40

I woke up all fired up today, and without realising it was anti-procrastination day I have anti-procrastinated loads! I have packed up and taken about 8 carrier bags of stuff to the charity shop (mainly kids' clothes and old coats but also a few books and CDs), returned a very overdue book to the library, collected a reserved book which has been waiting for over 2 weeks, and paid in a cheque that I've had for about 3 weeks!

The other thing I really need to do is clean out the fish...

WhoKnows the bicarbonate and bleach paste on silicone sounds like something I need to do! Are there any proper proportions or do you just make up a thick paste? How long does it need to stay on the silicone for?

Slingclutter · 11/02/2015 13:22

Afternoon all!

Bit of a crappy day tbh.

Fil's doctor has said that he probably only has a few days, or a week at most, left. [sad
